This little guy is one of the indicator species of the fynbos biome, usually found in groups of two or three and sometimes seen within herds of other species. Anyone know what species this is? #africa #conservation #wildlife

Typically red hartebeest are very timid antelope and even in their herds, want nothing to do with an approaching vehicle. This particular individual is a bachelor who was likely kicked out of his herd and has now taken to hanging out with the impalas. Did you know that vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythus) have distinct alarm calls depending on the predator and how it will attack! The alarm call for an areal predator like a falcon will be different from an apex predator like a lion and different from a venomous snake. Some troops even have a distinct call for humans!
