The top of this faceted private observatory in central New Hampshire, by Anmahian Winton Architects, rotates to provide different views of the night sky. The Gemma Observatory sits on a remote peak in the northeastern state, at the centre of a “dark” zone with a three-mile radius. Unobstructed by light pollution, the setting is ideal for astronomical observation.
Unlike typically domed observatories, the building has an angular form designed to echo its jagged granite surroundings. Lock-seamed zinc used to clad its exterior references the hues of the rocky landscape.
"[The building’s] dimension, colour, and patina evoke a material relationship to the grey granite outcroppings,“ said Anmahian Winton Architects, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Enamelware Museum and Cultural Centre in Shanghai
Perforated-aluminium screens zigzag around the walls of this cylindrical arts museum in Shanghai, which was designed by Wutopia Lab and features a 1970s-style rockery. Local architecture studio Wutopia Lab was asked to create the museum for the former manager of an enamelware factory, who wanted a space to showcase Chinese craft products – including metalware decorated with elaborate enamel patterns.

It feels like life always has the upper-hand, doesn't it? When we find things we appreciate, they're not what they seem. When we feel the things we need, it's not the right moment or time. When you want it, you don't get it. When you don't look for it, it crashes into you. There are so many things we don't admire, so many things we don't allow, and refuse to feel inspired. Walking alone every now and then, exploring a new, mesmerizing concrete jungle without a worry in my head. It's amazing how much an empty space can fill you whole, instantly pushing you to wanting more. Intensely feeling the absence of another soul. Another universe to pair with mine. An entire galaxy of wonders, riddles, and hypnotizing shivers. Another, different one to create an everlasting new world. A dream world.
