So anyway, my new laptop arrived - have a NieYao sketch to celebrate with me! (The idea is that Nie Mingjue gets courted and wooed by Meng Yao in a very Nie like manner. But because brute strength isn’t the way to beat Nie Mingjue in a sparring match, he is being cunning and clever to get him pinned down while Nie Mingjue loves every second of it.)

Also, I decided to at least try to make my sketches look somewhat decent so people won’t have their eyes burn from looking at my horrendous sketching colours. Good idea?

Forever thinking of Jin Guangyao sick, fevered, and in pain— who doesn’t think how he usually does and cries for his Mother to come. But, He doesn’t protest if one of his Sworn Brother’s comes instead gently to take him in their arms as he drifts back to sleep.

Lan Xichen will play music for him, will chat to him, will remind him where he is when he asks- he tends to find filling the room with his own voice distracts him from the fact his poor A-Yao is sick. It doesn’t seem to bother Jin Guangyao as he just curls up on him and listens. He always asks him questions as well but he usually only gets a hum in reply- it’s the thought that counts.

Nie Mingjue is much different when he visits. He tends not to speak much at all- instead he’ll draw up a bath for him, let him relax, wash his hair that hasn’t been tended to because he hasn’t been given any accommodations for his illness. He’ll bring him food that he used to make his brother when he was much younger (and much weaker- when Nie Mingjue would worry that even the cold would damage him). At one point Jin Guangyao will look up at him, eyes unfocused, and ask what’s going on. At this time Nie Mingjue must speak- so he tells him that’s he’s just a little sick but that’s alright… it’s alright Sect Leader Nie is here, my little deputy. He feels a twinge of guilt (why did he lie? Why did he feel the need to) when Jin Guangyao replies that he feels honored that his Sect Leader would visit him during this time… he’s very thankful… and before resting his head back down (unknowingly into Nie Mingjue’s arms) he tells him “It’s very nice to be back in the Nie Sect again”

I have too many favorite characters from mdzs but I must say Nie brothers are my most favs. Their arc is so heartbreaking yet it meant a lot to me to make this piece 🥺🙏  Hope you guys enjoy💖

Sure, you can read Jin Guangyao as some cool headed scheming mastermind who has everything under control, but it’s more fun and in my opinion makes more sense to read him as being on an insane adrenaline high in 90% of his scenes, and has just gotten very good at making pleasant conversation while scared out of his wits, and snatching at every possible opportunity to turn things in his favor.
