Tina’s Choice
She was almost done. Graduation was just around the corner and then she would be done.  No more schoolwork, no more homework, no more breathing down her sisters’ necks, trying to get them to behave themselves.  Of course, that last hadn’t been a problem in months anyway, with Su seemingly avoiding her and May, well, missing.
Tina remembered when she first came to Hogwarts, being so excited to be independent for the first time in her life. That was when caring for her sisters had felt like a responsibility, but not a chore, back when they didn’t seem to go out of their way to make her life more difficult. Is that why she had failed so miserably? Months had gone by, and there was still no sign of May.
A part of her worried that May had come back to fight in the battle -- it was exactly the sort of thing her sister would do, she knew, if May found out what was going on -- but if she had done that, surely someone would have known. Unless she had been killed? But no, Tina refused to let herself think about that. That was why she refused to look at the bodies of those who had perished in the fighting. After all, she knew where Su was and she knew where May wasn’t, and there was no reason to look at her dead classmates that she had never been that close to anyway.  And now she was leaving.
“Sad, isn’t it?” came a voice. Tina startled, looking around for the source.  She could have sworn she was alone, and yet her eyes landed on an unfamiliar woman.
“Who are you?” Tina asked, but the woman just waved a hand, smirking at her.
“Irrelevant. I am here to offer you a choice.”
Memories flooded Tina’s brain, memories of a life long forgotten. She had been...a princess? But that was impossible. And yet, it wasn’t.
“You have three options,” the woman continued, directing Tina’s attention to two doors in front of her. “You can go through the door on the left and you will be a princess again, or you can go through the door on the right and move on with your life here, with no memories of this conversation whatsoever. Or --” a third door appeared in the middle “-- you can choose the middle door, my personal favorite, and go wherever I send you. Your choice.”
Tina thought about it for a moment. She had done her best to build a solid life here in this world, but where had that gotten her? In her old life, she had been a princess. There was so much more she could do there -- she could make a real difference and there would be no one else she had to take responsibility for. That was what she had wanted all along, wasn’t it?
“I choose the left.”
