I will never understand why I don't see more hype for Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan books.
They're. So. Good. They brought me out of my post Dublin Murder Squad depression.
Female protagonist! Crime solving! Excellent, twisty plots! Nice prose! Action! Female/male partners + sexual tension! Every book is better than the last.
Please read them and then come talk to me about them, because I know no one who reads them 😭
GET YOUR FUCKING FLU SHOT
It’s Flu season and for God’s sake get the fucking shot!
If you’re afraid of needles, get the nose mist.
Most pharmacies will offer it FREE
Places like Target, Publix, and Walgreens will even give you a damn giftcard if you get the flu shot!
This isn’t about “Well I’ve never gotten the flu shot and I’ve never gotten the flu so I’m fine” bullshit or “But the shot gives you the flu!”
NO IT FUCKING DOESN’T! IT IS A DAMN DEAD VIRUS!
You might get a little sniffle or cold, but not the flu.
The mist WILL give you a tiny dose of the flu to prepare your body to fight off the real thing.
This isn’t just about protecting yourself against the flu, it’s about protecting everyone else.
Because people like me who have shitty immune systems can still get their shot but get the flu because others haven’t been vaccinated. You can still carry the flu virus even if you’re not sick, that what fucking germs are!
The flu is worse than you think, it fucking kills people. Especially the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems it is even more dangerous.
As someone who suffered from the flu. let me tell you it is fucking miserable. It is one of the worst things I’ve ever fucking had. It not only made me physically ill but it altered my mental state as well. The flu will fuck you up like nobody’s business.
So please, for the love of God, get the fucking flu shot
Here’s something I wanna say real quick, while I’m feeling salty: Amazon has totally contributed to the devaluation of literature. Those prices you see, the $13 they’re asking you to pay for a hardcover book? Those are deep, DEEP discounts that they’re able to implement because they don’t collect sales tax if they can get away with it, they don’t contribute money to the communities where they have a physical presence, they have shitty labor practices, Jeff Bezos has more money than god, etc.

They’re so omnipotent at this point that they’ve normalized the discounted prices for books as the standard. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had someone come up to me and tell me what the price on Amazon is, expecting me to match it. The number of times I’ve been told, “Oh, it’s cheaper on Amazon, I’ll just get it there.” Even at author events, where book sales DIRECTLY CONTRIBUTE to whether or not that bookstore will be able to get more authors in.
So when you go into a bookstore, and you’re asked to pay $27 for a hardcover, remember: THAT IS THE COVER PRICE. Set by the publishers. The bookstore is not upcharging you. They are asking you to pay the value of the book. Amazon’s low prices come with a cost. Please, just keep that in mind.

This is a great post, and I just want to point out: publishers aren’t upcharging you either.
The cost of the book is the advance for the author, it’s the salaries for all the people who work on it (including editors, yes, but also designers and marketers and publicists and lawyers and accountants and everyone else who makes sure publishing works). It’s the cost of printing the books and the materials to print those books on and the warehouses to store those books in. It’s keeping the literal lights on.
No one in the book business, from the author to the publisher to the bookseller, is making themselves rich off your money. This is the cost to survive. Amazon is running at a deficit because they can make up the cost with other things they do, and because once they run everyone else out of business, they’ll be the only game in town and can charge whatever they damn well please.

yeah, its all fine and cool to say “fuck columbus” or whatever, but like. dude’s been dead for hundreds of years now. do things that actively help native lives in the present. learn about native lands and cultures. learn to appreciate but not appropriate. help us maintain what little we actually have when the government inevitably tries to take it from us.
not being really overweight but not being thin is a weird place because you never look quite as good as your friends and you’re in that spot that everyone tells you “you’re not fat!” but doesn’t want to say you’re thin and no matter if your weight shifts you always sort of look the same to yourself and in some situations you can hide your appearance but in others its alarmingly obvious, and buying clothes is like a luck of the draw as to if you’ll look thin or huge because it feels like there isn’t an in between

Really Big Coin Skrekkøgle
This is our Really Big Coin. It is big because it makes other things look small when photographed next to it. Actually, it is a 20:1 replica of the EUR 50-cent, you see it being milled out here. We needed to do quite a bit of sanding, lacquering and smudging to obtain the desired look and some climbing to get into required shooting position (you need to get up real high to take good pictures). The result is a short series of photographs, attempting to visually scale down real-sized objects.
