The Coldest Day of Your Life | Norgie
It was dark in the room, but Georgie could still feel the rocking of the boat. She could hear her heart racing in her ears. It pounded through her head. Silent tears fell from her eyes. She had just gotten over all the crying and here she was crying again. But this time it wasn’t over a boy or because of her past mistake. It was her grandmother. The woman that brought her up and broke her down. Now, she was broken down. Grandmother had a stroke and was now laying unconscious in a hospital bed. Georgie couldn’t believe it. She was the strongest woman that she knew. She ripped people apart on a daily basis. She couldn’t imagine the woman laid out in a bed surrounded by machines.
Drawing in a shaky breath, she heard a knock at the door. Her dark head turned toward it as she sniffled staring at the door. Her father’s voice was still in her head. Cold but worried. He had always loved his mother the most. He was worried. She had never heard him worried before. His voice shook and she could tell he had been crying. Swallowing, Georgie stood up on shaky feet and found her way to the door. With puffy, bloodshot eyes she opened it looking at the boy that stood on the other side. “Noah…” she started in a whisper with fresh tears in her eyes. “It’s…it’s grandmother…” was all she managed to get out before the sobs overtook her body and she slid to the floor curling herself into a ball.
Noah took a deep breath in, not wanting to complete the many mounds of homework he had accumulated over his abscence. He took a step back and shook his head, ben was out for the night and thank god. He sat back on his bed and looked at the books he had just gotten with Georgie, he picked one up and started to flip through the pages, recalling her reading them aloud to him. He could not stop replaying every and all memories of her in his head. He just wished she was with him.
As if someone had heard his secret cry for affection he heard a knock at the door. Hesitant, he walked towards it, uncertain of what he would find. He opened the door with one swift swoop and he saw Georgie. His whole body relaxed and a small smile plastered itself across his lips, thats when he saw it. She was crying. His whole body reacted, he was ready to fight, to kill any and everything that had hurt her, she never deserved to cry and he would surely be the one to fix whatever had harmed her. He heard her say his name and his body reached out for her, he took her hands in his and looked at her. "my love whats wrong?" he asked her, his eyes searching for hers. thats when he heard it, what was wrong what had happened? She slid to the floor and he wouldnt allow it, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his arms and cradling her before walking her into his room, holding her so tight she would forget what it was like to be broken. He closed the door with his foot and walked her over to his bed, sitting down with her in his lap, kissing the top of her head softly as he held her. "its okay Georgie, Im here, Im right here" He said softly into her hair, rocking her gently as he kissed the top of her head once more. "whats wrong with Josephine?" he asked in an almost silent whisper
