the older and very protective brother of bree danvers

has two golden retrievers. Lady is four years old and Dodger is 2 years old. they are his entire life line & brings them to work quite often. They are often found snoozing up front.

a huge outdoors buff. hiking, camping, beaches, mountainrs, rivers, you name it, he likes it.

very active in self defense as well. that has led him to his second greatest passion: boxing.

he was a pretty wild child. had his fair share of broken bones growing up ( jumping from trees and swinging ropes breaking as he tried to swing to the river ).

he and his sister were very close and his wild streak rubbed off on her. this was not something he wanted and did his best to protect her from the dangers of life - but you know how those things go.

growing up with a dad as a cop and mom in politics, he had to be semi careful of what he did. he didn't want either of his parents to get in trouble with their jobs.

that didn't stop him from doing dumb shit. he's a boy. that's just what they do.

spent a lot of summers down at any river he could find with his best friends a cooler full of beer.

played basketball in high school and was pretty good at it. he was considered for many scholarships for college and took them up on that.

he only played for his bachelor's degree. as soon as he got into veterinary schoo, he didn't have the time to play for the school team. the career path he chose for himself was more important than a sport, but it did help keep his debt down intitially.

super close with chesney rags & her family. they are the closest "extended" family that he has. don't mess with her because he will kick your ass.

he puts up with a lot of shit when it comes to the people that he cares about. it takes a lot for the man to walk away. it's not that noah turns a blind eye to things, but he has a habit of giving people too many chances.

he works at the local clinic today, having been back from college for a few years now. he is on call all that he needs to be and would drop just about anything go to work.

The man gave the other a small smile, he honestly was terrible at decorating, so his place only looked the way that it did, because he had help, otherwise, it would most likely look like a complete mess. The colors wouldn’t fit together, or maybe everything would be blue and red, since they were his favorite colors, and most of the time, he bought things that were that color, since they caught the most his attention, “Alright,” he gave him a smile, and sat down on the couch, smiling softly as he watched the dogs, before his companion got back with the beverage he asked for, “Thak you,” he gave him a thankful smile before picking up the can, “Not really, it’s been like 3 months or so, so I’m still new ish, how about you?”

“Yeah?” Noah nodded his head. “Not long at all then,” it was no wonder he really hadn’t seen him around much. “You enjoyin’ Tupelo so far? I mean, you must be some,” he implied, “you haven’t run out of town just yet.” Noah laughed softly, “I really think it’s outgrown runnin’ people out with pitchforks, but don’t hold your breath.” He teased with a smile as he sipped on his own drink, comfortable in the other’s presence.

Taking in a deep breath, Bernie looked out at the view from where they’d taken a break. The top of the hill was a beautiful spot, and she was glad Noah had convinced her to get out and go hiking today. “I could see this view a million times and never get sick of it,” she said, standing up from the rock she was sitting on and stretching her arms up over her head. “So, do you bring all the ladies up here to get them alone and have your wicked ways with them? Or am I just the lucky one you’re bringing up here to murder?” 

Noah had his hands on his hips a moment, looking out at the view. It was a hell of a hike, but it was worth it every time he made it out here. He just happened to be lucky enough for company this time around. “Same,” he breathed the words, closing his eyes for a passing second. It had been a breath of fresh air to get out and hike with Bernie. Ever since seeing Maverick at the Monster Bash, he felt like he had been all over the place. They had done just fine avoiding each other all the years and now he seemed to be running into her all over the place. “What?” He laughed, raising his brows at the idea, “Neither of those are true and you know it,” he shook his head, “It just is nice to have good hikin’ company. Someone that doesn’t complain about all the terrain.” He admitted to Bernie with a smile, “I’d be one patient serial killer if I went on and waited this long to kill you.” He nudged her with his arm, the smile on his lips growing.

Maverick wondered when it would get better, when Noah would cease to be the physical personification of their failed relationship. Seven years was enough to dull the edges of her grief. But it came in waves; gruelling, stealing appetite and sleep alike. Maverick was beginning to believe her unrequited love for Noah would remain a shard in her gut that never left. Was this what Sinead O’Connor was always crooning about? Maverick was taught to believe all pain was received with permission, albeit retroactive, and she was the catalyst to her own sorrow. Only a lover can wound so deep, cut to the very core. It felt akin to bereavement and in quiet moments choked the breath from her body and short circuited her mind. What was once whole was shattered; where once was peace was but echoes of love. In the way their gazes lingered and her limbs itched to reach out. Hell, she still woke in the night when words of poetic desolation demanded to be written. I stain the floor with my love. It runs from my mouth and I choke on the air. It bleeds from my ears and drips from my chin. My head hangs low, heavy with thoughts of you. Seven years and Maverick wasn’t close to healed, but she could pretend. 

Keep it light Mav and for god sakes don’t look so awkward. Her lips contorted into a smile despite their reluctance to be moulded falsely. If years of being forced to compete in little debutante events as a child by a mother obsessed with appearances taught her anything, it was how to fake a smile. “Oh definitely, though I would have been just as pleased to see Egon. I always thought his humor was understated” her tone might have held a little more cheer than was necessary but she was determined to ease the awkwardness. Pushing the curtain of synthetic hair from her face she cleared her throat briefly. “Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light” her Egon impression was pretty rusty and not as effective with her accent but she was certain she got her point across. It was the type of terrible impersonation that would have made him laugh before. 

“Sorry, that was…couldn’t help myself, it’s still my favorite movie” a genuine laugh escaped her lips as she ducked her eyes in embrassment, cheeks coloring. Now would have been the perfect time to find an excuse to leave, her aching feet jerked in the direction of the crowd as if anticipating just that. However she surprised herself by asking. “Do you want to get a drink?” 

Noah nodded his head as they talked so easily about Ghostbusters. Okay, so perhaps the conversation was a bit more forced than they used to be. But, really, they hadn’t spent a lot of time talking over the last seven years. Small talk here and there, but here she was, having practically broken an ankle at the Monster Bash and falling into his arms. Noah could have dreamed of this moment a hundred times and he would never have felt so disconnected from Maverick. In his dreams, it would be the moment they realized that they never stopped loving one another. Because he didn’t. No matter the dates he went on, Noah found himself at Maverick’s mercy, even when she didn’t know it. “Yeah, it was,” he agreed with her, nodding his head. There felt like no escape from this conversation they had fallen into. 

His lips found themselves curling into a smile, one that a was bit less forced than the rest. “Still a favorite of mine as well,” he told her, happy to see they still had something in common after all of these years. He figured the lull in the conversation would be her excuse to leave, give her a reason to get the hell out of dodge. And yet, she was asking him if he wanted to get a drink. Noah found himself surprised by her, a feeling he hadn’t had in seven years. Not since the day she rejected his proposal. Now that had been a moment of her pulling the rug out from underneath him. He hadn’t expected that at all. “Yeah, okay,” the words were falling from his lips before he could even tell himself that it was a bad idea. He turned on his heel, leading the way to the open spot against the bar.as most people had finally made their way to the dance floor, enough alcohol in their systems to make a fool of themselves.

Troy looked over at him and smiled, “You are a great friend Noah.” He smiled looking over at him taking a sip of his drink for a moment, “Well I love to sing and my voice sounds so much better without being drunk.” He laughed a little looking over at the guy for a brief moment.

“Thanks, Troy,” he happily accepted the compliment. Noah tried to put honest efforts into his friendships. They were important to him, especially when he lost his relationship with Maverick. His friends and well, mostly Bree, had been there for him. “Mine probably sounds better when I’m drunk.” he laughed, shaking his head, “or at least I won’t notice if it’s terrible.”

It would be a lie if he said that he didn’t hope that they would end up in bed. He was shy, but he was far from innocent, he actually slept around a lot, but he still wasn’t sure how that was possible, considering that he didn’t flirt, but he supposed that people just thought he was charming despite of how a shy mess he was. So if something happened, would be all thanks to the other, since despite being attracted to him, he wouldn’t make the first move, “It’s good to see you again too,” he gave him a shy smile, as he stepped inside his place, and looked around, something he normally did when he went to someone’s house or apartment for the first time, “Nice place,” he smiled once again, “I think I will just stick with soda, do you have that? If no, a beer will do,” he drank alcohol, but when a possibility of sleeping with someone arose, he avoided it, “It’s okay, I love dogs,” he smiled, as he kneeled down to give them attention.

“Thank you,” Noah didn’t have the most expensive of places but his humble home was good enough for him and his two pups. Lady and Dodger loved to lounge around on the couches, sunbathe in the backyard and curl up in his bed with him at the end of night and were constantly under his feet when he was in the kitchen. “A soda, got it,” he nodded his, “make yourself at home,” he gestured to the living room before disappearing into the kitchen to get them each a soda. If Amelio wasn’t going to drink, Noah saw no reason to partake in the consumption of alcohol either. “Here you are,” he handed the man a soda, plopping down on the couch beside him, “So,” he hummed his eyes lingering on him, “you been in Tupelo long?”

Maverick was beginning to regret her choice of footwear, though the thigh length suede boots were essential to her costume she wasn’t used to prancing around in any heel higher than an inch. The blonde lived in her high tops every day of the week but she wouldn’t dare attempt a Vivian Wood look-a-like in a pair of converse. That’s just plain disrespectful. Unfortunately this meant having to periodically sneak away to rest her aching soles, and don’t even get her started on the wig. Regardless of her outfit grievances, it felt good to get out of the house for something other than a shift at Red’s though she was quickly discovering how much she’d gotten used to her quiet evenings. Telling Jasper about her day whilst she soaked in her claw foot tub, letting the bubbles ease away her stress. But she couldn’t live her life in the confines of her property. As least she’d have one less person to avoid in public settings, after reconciling with Shiloh she’d spent a decent amount of the event hanging off her arm and laughing with her fellow blonde just like old times. As for the other person she wasn’t eager – or perhaps too eager – to see, she’d been artfully dodging trapping herself in close quarters with him. It’d almost feel like a fun game of hide and seek if not for the mental strain. Speak of the devil…

After adjusting the incredibly uncomfortable cap keeping her hair hidden beneath her wig, Maverick shuffled her way through the queue of women chatting in the ladies room towards the exit. Just as she passed the threshold she felt her ankle wobble but there wasn’t much she could do to shield herself against the inevitable stumble. She knew striding about for the past few hours without incident felt too good to be true. Maverick and elevated footwear just didn’t mix, especially when she had a few rounds of tequila in her system. Eyes squeezed shut, she braced for impact. But it never came. Instead she was encased in warmth. A pleasant warmth. Opening one eye she found she was face to chest with none other than the very man she’d been hoping not to have a run in with. “Noah” she squeaked out, scrambling to put distance between them again before the familiar haze filled her brain. “Hey…um, you look” her words jumbled in her throat, eyes darting to find an easy path of escape. “I like the costume”. Of course she liked the costume, not just because it was a reference to one of her favorite movies but because he was wearing it. But she didn’t need the walking reminder of their first date. “I hope its Venkman your dressed up as, I always found him the funniest” 

Dressing up for Halloween was a favorite past time of his. It wasn’t his favorite holiday, not when Christmas rolled around, but it was one that Noah could absolutely participate in and not to mention, Shiloh all but pushed him to go to the Halloween Bash - for good reason. There was no shortage of people wanting to see Noah happy and well, even if that was only temporarily, for a night, by getting laid by some stranger, they were high and happy for it. Not to mention, there was a surplus of alcohol floating around and people he spent his entire life knowing and people he didn’t know at all. Not much could go wrong in a room full of mildly intoxicated people, right? 

And with too much alcohol, came far too many bathroom breaks. As he stepped from the restroom and began to make his way back into the party, a familiar blonde stumbled on the footwear she had chosen for the evening. And he knew Maverick. He was honestly surprised she was still wearing them. As her ankle rolled, her body came directly toward his own. Without even thinking about it, he stepped forward to catch her as she headed directly for the floor that was probably sticky with spilled drinks. It was natural instinct for him - to reach for her, but there had been a time when she stopped reaching back for him. As his name left her lips, he stepped back, running a hand down the length of his chest and abdomen as she pulled back from him so immediately. “Oh,” he glanced down, swallowing hard. When he picked out the costume, he knew the movie was important to both Maverick and him, but he hadn’t expected to run into her at all. “Of course I’m Venkman,” he chuckled, his tongue sliding across his lips, “I mean, it’s most fittin’ isn’t it?” It was rhetorical but he gave her a small smile anyhow.

Now that Bree knew her brother was on board – as in providing her with any animal related necessities she required – any apprehensions she had about being in the care of a living creature other than herself were effectively dissipated. Noah’s opinion meant more to her than anyone else’s, not just because of his profession but because she could always count on him not to sugar coat things when it mattered; he managed to play the role of doting older brother whilst keeping her humble. If he thought she wasn’t well equipped to adopt a dog she trusted he’d tell her. When she decided to join the police academy he was who went to first to discuss her options and ultimately it was with his encouragement she followed through. Every major turning point in her life – from career choices to romantic turbulence – was lived with Noah’s steady assurance tucked in her back pocket in case of need. Bree couldn’t count her blessings, life was kind, but Noah was among them. 

“Beautiful, you are a king among men bubs” her grin disappeared behind the rim of her cocktail glass, a decent portion entering her system with fire hot consistency. A slight shudder shook her frame as she placed the glass aside. “Exactly what I was thinking, she’s got these adorable little doe eyes I don’t want the other pups to think she’s soft. Gotta give her a name that strikes fear, just like her future mama” Bree narrowed her eyes into her most threatening expression to prove her point. Towering at a whopping five foot four meant she had to learned to be all bark and bite. Her colleagues might appear bulkier than she but everyone knew who the real muscle was. “Though she be but little she is fierce” Bree chanted, snapping her fingers. “Enough chatter about me, you have to stop letting me monopolize the conversation Bubs you know how much I can talk” she playfully chastised him. “What’s been going on with you?” 

Noah gave Bree a playful bow in the barstool, playfully pressing his hand to his abdomen as he threw a smile in her direction as he straightened his back. “Don’t have to go and tell me twice,” he teased, though his ego was hardly as big as he was making it sound. Noah was known for being a humble man, though often a lot less. He didn’t really see himself in the same light as others if he was being honest with himself. That tease that he was actually this king among men was all an act and Bree was just as well aware of that as anyone might have been. It was partly the perk of having Shiloh as the receptionist. The woman was no stranger to feeding him compliments to help boost what little ego he did have. 

“I like the way you think,” in which he usually did. When it came to Bree, they were typically on the same page. “Mhm, exactly right. The two of you striking fear. People will be out here thinking she’s a German Shepard when she’s a cute little spaniel but watch out,” he held his hands up, grinning widely, “she’s a feisty one.” Noah chuckled at the idea of Bree running the town with a cocker spaniel by her side. If anyone could do it, it was absolutely his sister. “You know I never bore of listening to you talk,” plus it gave him the opportunity to not talk about himself. “Nothin’ a ton has bein’ going on with me,” his shoulders lifted in a shrug, “You met the new guy, Amelio?” His brow raised, “Found him to be a good distraction from having to treat Maverick’s dog the other day.” He shook his head at his own coping methods.

Of course that he wasn’t the one that called first, especially since he was the one that gave the other his number, not the other way around. But even if he had his, he wouldn’t have called either, he was just too shy for it, so he would have waited anyway. When he realized that he was the one that called him, he felt a mix of excitement, and anxiety, as he usually felt when he was going to sleep for the first time with someone. It was impossible not to be nervous, but he didn’t let that stop him from going to the other’s place, and knocking on his door. He was sweating a little, because his nerves just didn’t seem to want to calm down.

Noah didn’t really know the true motivation behind calling the man he just met. But, it was a hell of a lot better than moping about the residual feelings that seemed to come up anytime he had to spend more than a few minutes of time with Maverick. And well, figuring out what was wrong with her sick dog? That was enough to put him in a funk not evening boxing could take him out of. So, he invited Amelio over to his place. Drinks, a movie and well, he figured they would see where the rest of the night would take them. “Nice to see you again,” he spoke immediately upon opening the door to see Amelio. “Preference on beer? Liquor?” He stood against the door to let Amelio in before shutting it once the other entered his home, both Lady and Dodger with wagging tails. “Don’t mind them much, they’re just happy to have company.” He grinned over at the golden retrievers with the smiles on their faces.

It didn’t escape Maverick’s attention the way her former love avoided her gape; she did her best to ignore the way her chest stung in response. It was far easier to observe him discreetly with his attention on Jasper’s examination anyway. There was a time when verbal exchanges flowed as easy as the tide, when their banter were much more than words. It was the smiles, the gentle shrugs and the light in their eyes. That they were both elevated by each other’s presence was blatant and even the silences were comfortable. They were moments to savour the company of the other and feel that sense of peace that comes from feeling loved and protected. But those treasured memories were a stark contrast to the present. Maverick was desperate to keep the conversation moving – heaven forbid there be a pause. It was imperative she keep the dialogue insubstantial, broaching heavier topics was an unspoken forbiddance. They mustn’t dare speak about the things that really matter: Their deepest regrets, the hidden pain. “Yeah, I heard,” Maverick offered a small smile that paled in comparison to the unbridled simpers of joy she once gave him. “Bunch of folk saw em kissing at the Swinging Door the other night, bout time I say”. Maverick really was happy for the pair even though she and Bree didn’t do much talking anymore. 

A heavy silence settled over them at Noah’s returning inquiry, thicker than the uneasy tension in the atmosphere. Now it was Maverick’s turn to shift her attention. Unsettled eyes glanced unceremoniously around the room. It wasn’t a particularly difficult question to answer; she only wished she could borrow his collected composure to aide in her nonchalant facade. What about me? I’m miserable. I miss you. I think about you all the time. Do you think about me? Do you hate me? I love you. 

“I’ve been fine” she said instead, straining to keep her facial expression relaxed and uping the wattage of her smile to conceal her discomfort. “Work is the same, Ma’s the same, Wyatt’s the same, still a massive pain in the ass” though she spoke of her brother with affection. 

Noah nodded his head. It was about time. Part of him had almost wished he had been there to give the two of them a hard time about it, but he was able to do that all the same after the fact. The mere thought had him smiling to himself. He had always had a soft spot for Chesney and clearly, so did his sister. Just in two totally different ways. “It is about time,” he agreed with her, another small head nod following his words. 

As she mentioned being fine, he swallowed hard. He hated to hear that she was just fine. And no, Noah wasn’t wishing her ill or wanting her to have a hard time with anything. It simply wasn’t the type of person that he was. Noah wanted them both to be good despite the fate that she had chosen for the both of them by rejecting his proposal all those years ago. As she spoke, it didn’t sound like much had changed. His own shoulders did tense at the mention of her brother. Since the break up, his relationship with Wyatt wasn’t exactly the best. And Noah wasn’t even the one that did anything wrong, at least he hadn’t thought so. “I-” he was what? Sorry to hear that? Happy to hear that? Neither, honestly. He was just -  existing in her presence. “I’m going to go have this blood run.” He had drawn Jasper’s blood during their conversation. He stuck the needle into the tube before standing up and heading to the back door. 

Noah stuck his head out the door and handed the tube off to one of his technicians. “We should know in a little bit, about the blood work,” he jerked his thumb back toward the door. “Shouldn’t take Camille long to run it.”

“Okay so maybe I didn’t want your advice as much as I wanted you to agree with me” Bree flashed a teasing smile in her brother’s direction, taking a sip of the drink he ordered – and subsequently making a face – before passing it towards him. She wasn’t sure if it was as sibling thing, but she’d always had a habit of wanting whatever her brother had. She was notorious for stealing bites off his plate before even starting her own meal. You’re food always taste better, was her typical excuse. It didn’t help that Noah tended to spoil her to a certain degree, not in a material sense but sentimentally. They had a solid bond, the Danvers clan, unlike any other. Any stretch of time between their meetups (which truthfully was never too long) she was supplementing with texts and phone calls. Noah was the first person Bree told anything to whether monumental or trivial and the first person she turned to whenever she needed support. She didn’t know where she’d be in life without him constantly providing encouragement, assuring her she could accomplish anything she set her mind to and being there to fall back on whenever she was met with disappointment. 

Bree washed the taste of Noah’s chosen liquor out of her mouth with her sweeter cocktail. “But seriously, I need you to give me the rundown of pet ownership. What do I need to buy, how do I prepare, etcetera” absently he wondered if Chesney’s precious pup would mind a companion considering they’d be spending a lot more time together now. “And names, I need name ideas” the more she talked about it the more excited she was becoming. “Something badass like Valkyrie” 

Noah laugh, only to nod his head in agreement with Bree’s words. “Mhm, that’s exactly what I thought,” he teased his sister. He watched as Bree took a sip of the drink that was his but when it came to his sister, nothing was ever truly his. They shared just about everything when it came to food or drinks. Which, Noah couldn’t really deny, had its perks. When he wanted two items and couldn’t decide, she got one and he would get the other, allowing them to share. And she was his sister, sharing an unbreakable bond with her had always been something the two of them had been able to rely on. Even as they grew older into their thirties. As some siblings drifted and had arguments that ended their relations, Bree and Noah only grew stronger as time went on. 

Nodding his head, he his sister would want literally every bit of information there was out there about owning a dog. And more importantly, a puppy. “I can write you up a whole list if you want, with all the basics and more.” He knew just sitting here and spewing it out wasn’t going to do anyone much good. Chances are, he would forget a ton of things. “Valkyrie is a bad ass name,” he agreed with her, "especially on a cocker spaniel,” he raised a brow, “usually we get those in with names like Lucy or something much softer.”
