It’s important to know that Elijah had given up before he died. After all the pain that he caused going from Tatia, messing up Aurora/Lucien/Tristan and screwing over this brother to what happened with Hayley centuries later. When all the memories came back at once, it had him question what he was doing with his life. And the truth was he had nothing. So he moved on with Klaus.
Peace was.... better than he expected. It was peaceful. It was prefect. He wasn’t ready to come back when he was pulled back. It was like being ripped back into the pain of life, and somehow the only person that let him breath was Katherine. Not that he was surprised by that. Everything had gone a little square shaped for when he gave up love and happiness to follow Klaus, to give up everything to make sure that Hope was alive. It felt like he owed himself this time.
He isn’t sure he would have cared if his family was on the other side of the world when he came back, but they weren’t. He did what he always did, he helped them with the necromancer after all Freya had made a deal and he would follow it. But after he had been lost till Katherine found a way focus him, the red door all the lies just messing with his head. Till he realized that he never should have let Katherine go, never should have given up on them.
The two got married, had a beautiful family. It was like he was at peace even with him being alive. He was happy.
what does your character do in the town now? what is their job? hobbies? entertainment? plans?
On the island he came a doctor, funny given his blood problems of the past but he did. He liked it, it helped focus him, gave him something to do. To be a dad, that got up, dressed his kids, went to work, came home and looked after his kids before sleep. It was peaceful. He still likes to play piano, he likes the violin. But mostly he is enjoying there not being any drama. But that will soon be over.

With Katherine at his side and for support, Elijah opened his red door memories, all of them. using a dark magic spell. The spell was meant to unlock any hidden memories of his red door experience, to make sure that esther hadn’t hidden anything else. But the spell had given him back something else, memories of people he had forgotten. Alot of them. So not important, others very important but all of them with the same history... a species that he didn’t remember. Dragons, Fairies, Mermaids, Jinnis. He had met them all and somehow had forgotten them all.
