Two notes is enough to convince me so here's a crappy summary I just whipped up.
The Diaspora Chronicles (If I ever get though book one)
Genre: Adventure comedy??? But it turns dark. Think Percy Jackson vibes but for an older audience and a tad bit more dark. It's set in a fantastical world with some magic.
Setting: The Kingdom of Nephilae which is basically a modern day Rome. The best way to describe the kingdom is borderline steampunk mixed with that ancient Rome feel. The Great Expansion is what the Nephilites call the mass conquering 600 years prior that turned their empire into one of the most feared in the world. A very young and smaller kingdom, Arken, had been absorbed into the empire during this period, and those people still live in Nephilae. The Arkenians make up a large portion of the population and almost the entirety of the lower class. Due to fear of their increasing population, Nephilae holds all Arkenian poeple and towns under a police state.
Backstory: During this time, Circe, a Nephilite woman (a cousin of the royal family) becomes incredibly attracted to an Arkenian tradesman, Amit Tzedek, who falls in love with her after several meetings. They have two children before Circe decides to cut off ties and move back into the palace, taking their son with her. Meanwhile, Amit is left with their daughter. He later marries a woman named Ruth, who had been left with her son by her husband in his search for wealth and glory.
Uriah Tzedek: 17 y/o son of Circe and Amit. Probably the most serious out of the three, though also insanely sarcastic. He's got pretty solid wisdom and intelligence, but flunked the roll for charisma. He was raised in the palace with no knowledge of his Arkenian heritage. He aspires to be a poet with his love of words and writing.
Talia Tzedek: 17 y/o daughter of Circe and Amit. A little more soft spoken but extremely resourceful and a lot more inclined to have fun. She's an introvert who would still go to a party. She was raised with her father and knew about both her mother and brother. She was taught to build and tinker by her stepmother, who's family line had been made up of craftsmen. She wants to carry on her stepmother's legacy and become a craftsman.
Kenan Azreal: 19 y/o son of Ruth and Jehoram. He is the token comic relief character who is both charming and witty. Also a cocky little rat bastard. He is beloved by most Arkenian people he meets, and hated by most Nephilae for his habit of troublemaking and pickpocketing. Definitely a huge mommas boy and a pretty great cook. He uses his craftsman DNA to work as a blacksmith's apprentice.
Without giving too much away, Uriah ends up learning about his heritage and meets both his sister and father. Through spoiler related circumstances, Uriah, Talia, and Kenan spread the idea and start an underground rebellion against Naphilae to save their people from oppression. But sometimes, a rebellion has unintended consequences.
I promise it's more exciting then it sounds but I don't want to give too much away just yet. I might start another blog for this with excerpts, sneak peaks, memes, and possibly art if anyone is interested 👀
