Hi guys, I am coming on here just to let you guys know I’ve deleted my posts of my book Pete design. I’ve recieved asks about him and my decision to depict him as black - especially considering his backstory in the book and the harmful stereotypes it could possibly spread.

These are obviously very valid criticisms, and I don’t want to be responsible for the exacerbation of stereotypes and misinformation that people of color face every day. So, I’ve decided the best thing to do is remove him from this website, as well as apologize for disappointing anybody with this art.

I didn’t intend to harm anyone with this depiction of him; I primarily began drawing him this way because I had watched the movie first, and so I had envisioned him as a black teenager even before I learned what his backstory was. Past that point though, I should have recognized what the implications were of depicting him that way.

I really appreciate the anonymous asker who pointed this out to me, and I’m sorry for being a bit late in my response to it! I have been contemplating what to do with him because I am quite attatched to this character, but that is NO excuse to ignore valid criticism. This is a sensitive topic, and my personal conception of a character shouldn’t create more pain surrounding it.

Anyways, if anyone has any recommendations for what a fun design could be for him, I’m open to suggestions!
