BitTorrent Sync lets you sync and share files and folders between devices, friends, and coworkers. Available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. Download it now for free.
Fiddling with BitTorrent Sync to see if it can be used to auto-deploy code changes in a reasonably rapid form. Seems like it's not bad, but doesn't have enough control. But once a change is committed in a source tree, it's a quick and dirty way to get it onto machines (but not if you need have to perform post-deploy actions). Also unsure of the security level of the secrets and software since it all flows through a common network.
Truth? and choice
Just thinking things this morning… if all things can be gamed, reality fabricated and controlled through media, people deceived based on agendas of people wanting to make money, retain power or push their own objectives, if we only think about our own individual/race/sex/country problems and our personal objectives/values are treated as more important than others, if even in the cases where we choose to support others objectives that collusion nullifies the benefit of altruistic behaviour — how do we as a planet of citizens make decisions based on truth that hasn’t been “made” for us?
We have so many things going on it seems right now… plastic in the oceans, food/water as a benefit not a right, power hungry people taking what they want or even killing people that would stop them… it all becomes who has the better marketing budget or cause to back (with horrific examples) and that has the affect of aligning some to one side of the argument and some of those to another, but in the end, it isn’t about the reality of the situation or making choices with the bigger picture in mind.
In all decisions in my life so far, there has always been the pros and cons — pretty sure that’s true of everyone. You always try to make decisions that have better benefit overall than those with less, but you don’t always make those choices well (mistakes) or in several cases, those choices might have more cons for you personally but ultimately have better pros for everyone.
I even question things like nutrition and food quality nowadays — how can we be confident in anything that we haven’t had a direct hand in growing? How can we know that our choices we make haven’t been handed to us by others decisions based on how much money could be made. The problem is you could get paranoid about everything… the point is, we cannot scale effectively if everyone is doing their own grass roots on their own food supply or power usage or military protection. The world has to change.
How do we get trusted systems in place? Clearly that was the goal of government, but it’s difficult to judge if that is working well and isn’t being gamed/controlled to such a degree that they aren’t acting in our best interest (that’s just in Canada, not even talking about places like Korea). Even the “failsafe” systems to audit the government are being gamed/failing. I would have said science at one time, but science at a global scale seems to be bought/sold, validated/rebuked by research groups with big budgets from companies and ultimately funded a lot by folks with agendas different than making things better for the planet.
Maybe we have a problem — it might be we can never make things better for everyone on the planet, there might just be too many of us to do that (resource wise per capita).
I just don’t know how we get out of being largely a collection of selfish people focused on their own small personal objectives to make their lives better to being a global community (and I mean at scale, not unique heros or leaders that continue to push the boulder up hill) that is looking at what is happening in the best interest of all the future generations. It doesn’t feel like there will be many more generations (3-4 at most?) before our actions destroy all the things we’re trying to personally preserve at our unfocused individual level and it doesn’t feel like we as a planet are even interested in making that better.
I also don’t know what I’m going to say when our little boy asks me why I let it get this way.

Jake did an incredible job explaining what fight direction is about and how it relates to the reality of human interaction -- I'm amazed on how clear and succinct a job he did and the example of it was similarly excellently performed.
Chad and I trying out new aerial video quadcopter -- it was great!
Had a silly time with Polly, Ryan and friends doing complex math and Irish dancing for episode 7 of Creative Dissonance - Ceiliculus.
Finalizing the Royal Medieval Faire's submission since we were nominated this year. www.royalmedievalfaire.org
I look forward to many future lightsabre battles in our studio in the future.
Nick Oddson Age: 39 Location: Waterloo Occupation: Senior Vice President, Enterprise Technologies, OpenText Corporation Making a difference: Helped build Canada's largest software company, contributes time, energy and money to the local arts scene and the region's tech community.
Whether you need a helping hand, a word of wisdom or a rare medieval combat weapon, look no further than Nick Oddson
Not only is the senior vice president of Canada's largest software company generous with his time and advice, but he is also one of only 14 accredited stage combat instructors in the country -- a designation he attained after co-founding Waterloo's Royal Medieval Faire in 1997.
And whether he's managing his 1,000 plus employees across the globe or teaching an actor how to swing a sword, Oddson makes everything he does look easy.
In the matter of 11 years, the former University of Waterloo computer science student helped make OpenText a billion-dollar business. In 15 years, he grew the Medieval Faire from a local family event to one of the region's most highly anticipated festivals of the year, drawing annual crowds of more than 5,000.
And while his unique ability to manage people, business and technology has taken him to the peak of his profession before the age of 40, he says the climb has been anything but typical.
"I didn't follow the conventional paths to success," acknowledges Oddson, who began his tech career making video game software. "I have an eclectic set of interests and a professional background that makes me unique."
That eclectic set of interests includes an affinity for theatre. Oddson is a member of a community improv group and, in various capacities, has assisted with more than 25 local productions. He also helps with the University of Waterloo drama program, and he and his wife occasionally work on local indie films.
To complement his involvement in the arts, Oddson is equally committed to the region's tech commuity.
As a member of Communitech's board of directors and a volunteer with the University of Waterloo's Velocity program, he mentors local entrepreneurs and tech students. His vision and innovation were instrumental in launching the University of Waterloo's Stratford campus and he regularly offers his expertise at events, such as Ignite Waterloo.
Oddson, who will be making the shift from OpenText to Desire2Learn in March 2013, says he's always willing to give back to the community, which has given him so much over the years.
"It makes the industry and the region a better place to have more successful people in it."
Today we got some exciting news. First was that our show exceeded the expected revenue that was forecast by the Board of Directors. Looks like we brought in 150% of what was projected!
Then later today we found out the results from the Western Ontario Drama League’s pre-festival awards. We won...
Fantastic work by the cast and crew. Well deserved recognition from WODL.
So, like something like 14 years ago, Karen and I were in Elora and happen to wander by a Church for sale at the time -- it was quite cool and we talked then that it would be very cool to own a church. This one (in Winterbourne) came up just recently, but alas it has been sold. Looking further, I see now that the Elora Church we originally looked at is also for sale. Now, pretty much everything is out of our price range by a lot -- if we lived in the middle of nowhere, Churches go for like $40,000... but close to us, easily 10x that number. Ah well, if you happen to run across an old Church, an old Schoolhouse or an old Town hall, let us know.
At last night’s combat rehearsal, the team strapped a GoPro camera to Chris’s head in order to capture a Banquo’s eye view of his murder.
A 1 fps time lapse of the Macbeth performance from the Saturday of opening weekend. The motion blur makes the fights surreal, the punctuation of various lighting cues draw your attention, the witch looking on over all is as creepy as in the show. Overall, a very neat recording of a fantastic show. This gives you an idea of how amazing a production it is - don’t miss out seeing it live.
Well, there you have it. A show nearly complete. From a brilliant idea to final dress rehearsal. All that’s left is to enjoy the fruits of so much labour. Macbeth opens at KWLT tomorrow (Jan. 24) and it is so very beautiful. I don’t use that word lightly. This is a beautiful show. The movement and choreography. The set design, lighting, costuming and make-up. All of it. This is a work of art my friends. Aside from the trickery of shooting in often very low light, everyone involved in this show made my job so easy and truly a pleasure.
I have no doubt KWLT is very proud to present to you, Macbeth. Enjoy the show.
Very very happy to work with my friends on this show. Thank you Jonathan, cast and crew for so much creativity.
Yari and Naginata remade, decorated in traditional Kabuki style and polished ready for dress rehearsal.
