my friend was having trouble drawing wilson’s hair so i threw together a really basic tutorial, since, here’s the thing- unlike SOME highly abstracted art styles I could mention, pretty much everything in Don’t Starve makes a basic amount of three-dimensional sense and can be arrived at with simple construction because @jeffagala is very good at what he does. There’s not a ton of ‘uh just throw on some triangles and hope it looks right’

so anyway

(Which I am not going to explain in detail because Wilson’s head is a standard ball-and-jaw cartoon head. If you’re new to cartooning and unfamiliar with this head construction, this page goes in to the technical details of why these shapes are used. To sum it up in the briefest possible way: The lower half of the face moves, the upper half does not move apart from the features on the surface, so we draw the two parts in halves. This page will show you how simple and versatile the ball-and-jaw is. It’s Wilson AND it’s moe! On Tumblr, it’s often both!)

The two parts on the side go out and back, kind of like a horizontal V with Wilson’s head in the center. You can see this more clearly if you look at his vinyl figure.

The top part curves up and back from the forehead. The curl at the end is optional. Some promotional art has it, some doesn’t, the in-game sprite doesn’t have it
