Drawn to him like a flame, Eden couldn’t help but be entwined, the only being that had not turned away in fear at Nightmare’s nature, she felt completely intrigued by the elder boy since she met him. They were so alike, introverted and dark, scaring off anyone other than each other, it made them comfortable in their shared company, but it could be a curse just as easy, making it difficult to convey true thought and emotion; as if it wasn’t hard enough already for Eden to be close to anyone without becoming so irrational she would run away, yet now Eden could not, she was eternally trapped.
“Indeed,” Eden smiled gently, she spoke an for an odd time with Narfi, most people she said little or nothing because she did not wish to converse with them at all, or make them feel like she actually cared for what they had to say, but with Narfi, she wished to converse, but was enchanted by the words he spoke, making it difficult to choose silence or little words. “the twenty first century allows the girl to choose, not to wait for men to make her a business deal, yet women have always be in charge.” This came from a subject that Nightmare actually had some interest in, and had therefore turned up to the class a few times. History, something she enjoyed immensely, where else could she find gore, powerful women and battles? “I’m not so sure about the horror-ending, seems much too predictable. No lovely lady is present.” Eden smirked, brushing it off as if it didn’t warm something of her cold, stone heart. However long they spent in each other’s company, Eden knew there would always be things they kept them from each other, she would keep things hidden in the dark just as he would, for she was not as pure as he would even believe now. Eden was a murder and sociopath, damned now to a life of solitude and the fearsome title of “Nightmare”, forever to be avoided because of judgement, her cold eyes and fierce nature, before Narfi, she had been certain she was alone, that only the dreams and darkest fears of others would be her company forevermore but he had found her when she was hidden away, and Eden had found her curse of being forced into the school which she resisted and despised so much, was now turning in her favour, the devil’s created fate.
Eden’s eyes locked on to his and she was his, trapped inside the heat and tension caught between the star crossed lovers. He had been the first person to touch her in years, and know all she could feel were his lips; Eden was finally weakened, destroyed by his touch as she was exposed to thoughtlessness and feeling. As if every moment had come down to it, leaning forward in to something sweet but fuelled with hunger, Eden could no longer fool herself, to him she wasn’t Nightmare, and she was in love with him, whatever she knew or understood of love was what Eden felt for Narfi. Eden knew she should be wary of him; nothing would scare her anymore, not even love itself, something she had ridden off as a myth when she was just a child, an illegitimate child of some man she never met and her mother, some woman so wrapped up in her own lies and fantasies, she let herself be conned by love over and over again, Eden only ever felt hatred towards the woman and her fickle mind, a truly hopeless romantic, but not Eden… Not until now, at least, now Eden was being turned against everything she knew, and it would bring her protective layers crashing down, the wall that had kept her sheltered over the years, if he wanted to, he could destroy her, and the worst part was, Eden would let him.
And then Eden was lost, as she felt him reflect the inner thoughts that went against her, their pasts that chained them both back, something to forever smother the light. Caged into a soulless silhouette, she had never wanted anything more than for him to stay. She knew that this was to end badly, but he had touched her otherwise non-existent heart, and it would fail to forget.
This was impossible, as Narfi calmed fires of hate, he created fires of compassion and love, and she became alive at his touch and broken again at his backing off. Eden wish her power meant she could read minds, and not in fact destroy them, she just wished she knew how to prevent him from closing himself off. If she was brave, Eden would say it out loud, she was unafraid and in love with him, the phantom of her thoughts and sanity in the dark.
Eden wasn’t afraid to love, nothing scared her anymore, he couldn’t break her further, whatever was so dark that lay in his past wouldn’t even hurt her now. Stubborn, she would let him haunt her, but Eden also had things to protect him from, she killed the only person who was meant to love her. Eden was not pure enough to love, so maybe this was not her place, maybe she would have to find her in his dreams.
