ok  so  i  get  paid  jack  shit  and  always  super  late  so  i  get  around  $200  a  month  right ?  and  i’ve  been  able  to  save  a  grand  total  of  $70 ,  yeah ?  and  i’m  about  to  spend  that  all  on  coffee  and  stuff  to  make  shrimp  scampi  lmaooooo

people  talk  about  words ,  other  people ,  objects ,  being  religion . holloway  never  understood  it  until  he  met  zero .

he  never  understood  what  they  meant  by ,  “ his  words  are  religion , ”  or  “ her  kisses  are  religion . ”  it  was  such  an  odd  thing  to  say  or  think  about .  maybe  it  was  his  relationship  with  religion  that  made  it  such  an  intangible  concept  —  afternoons  in  church  with  the  reverend  who  smacked  his  wrist  too  hard  and  called  him  devil  child ,  watching  people  explain  hatred  and  murder  with  bibles  —  or  maybe  it  was  his  inability  to  think  of  religion  as  more  than  just  concepts  of  all - powerful  gods  that  rubbed  him  the  wrong way .

but  after  meeting  zero  —  who  stuck  by  his  side ,  who  came  to  him  with  this  fresh  curiosity  and  blue  doe  eyes  that  made  something  churn  in  the  pit  of  his  chest  —  he  had  a  newfound  understanding  of  what  it  all  meant .

it  wasn’t  zero’s  power  that  made  him  understand ;  it  wasn’t  the  abilities ,  the  things  he  could  do ,  or  the  fact  he  could  probably  destroy  the  universe  with  a  snap  of  his  fingers .

it  was  the  genuine  smile  when  holloway  would  answer  all  of  his  questions  with  a  smile  of  his  own ;  it  was  the  twinkle  in  his  eyes  and  the  laugh  that  helix  would  bring  out  of  him ;  the  softness  of  his  hands  against  holloway’s  calloused  ones ,  a  reminder  that  there  were  still  soft  things  in  the  world  against  all  odds ;  it  was  the  bites  left  all  over  his  body ,  the  soft  trailing  lips ,  the  unsure  hands  despite  all  that  power .

everything  about  zero  was  religion :  something  holloway  could  devote  his  life  to ,  and  protect ,  and  speak  prayers  to  every  night ;  someone  to  have ,  to  love ,  and  to  believe  in  wholeheartedly  despite  the  possibility  of  future  pain .
