❝Well, it certainly isn’t as bitter as it could be.❞ Come this time of year, the weather could be relentless. Blizzards were common, and even a few areas of Castle Krakenberg found themselves frigid. Even though Nohrian blood was said to run hot, it made Xander grateful to have all that he did. He was only human—not immortal.

It did make him wonder, though…. Immortality and undead were two completely different states, but in Veles’ case, both seemed to apply to at least a certain extent. ❝If it’s not too rude of me to ask, do your circumstances affect your perception of the elements?❞ Considering that he possessed a pulse, Xander didn’t know what sort of answer he would receive, but the other seemed more resilient to the weather than most men.

Nina’s eyes were immediately drawn to her feet. Similar to her princely father in that regard. Afraid that if she didn’t keep an eye on them that she’d end up stepping on toes and leaving them bruised.

“Isn’t this, I dunno, a little close for dancing?” She questioned, but nonetheless, placed her left hand atop Xander’s upper arm “How does anyone move when they’re like this?”

XANDER was reminded of days long gone when he had once danced throughout this very room with his younger siblings. While Camilla picked up on the movements with all of her grace, and Elise enjoyed every moment of standing on her eldest brother’s feet as he spun her around the room, Leo had been the most nervous. Nina often took after Niles, but there were many times that Xander could see his younger brother in her.

❝It’s all a matter of synchronizing your steps with your partner’s. I promise that movement is possible.❞ He offered her a gentle smile of encouragement, even though Nina’s focus was clearly trained down rather than up. ❝To begin, I’ll bring my left foot forward. Keeping your toes to mine, move back with your right.❞

COMING to a halt after some distance was put between father and son, Xander observed Siegbert’s approach to prepare for his next move. However, as he did, something caught his attention. ❝Wait just a moment,❞ he said, his tone tinged with a hint of sternness. Brown eyes looked his son over for a moment before his brow furrowed. While his expression might have come across as angry, what Xander felt more than anything was concern: ❝Your stance isn’t as sharp as usual.❞

Siegbert was skilled in the ways of the sword and the lance, as he had been training to use both in combat for quite some time now. He’d always had a strong work ethic. While this was admirable and Xander was proud of his son, he was worried that this motivation would end up hurting him.

❝You haven’t been overexerting yourself, have you? Surely you know that such things will only hinder your progress.❞ Xander had told him as much more than once. While he understood the drive to train as much as you could in as little time as possible, doing so often led to exhaustion and unnecessary injury—things that he didn’t wish to see happen to Siegbert if he could help it.

However, the way that Robin utilized these tactics was incredible. It reminded Xander of his younger brother in a way. In fact, he believed that he had overheard the two of them engaging in conversation once before…. ❝Prince Chrom wasn’t mincing his words when he said that you had a brilliant mind.❞

LARGE and calloused hands held one of Sakura’s own, fingertips covered in suds gently scrubbing in circles to wash away the blood and grime from her skin. The water in the basin that sat between her and Xander had long since turned a murky brown from the process, but getting clean post-battle was something that one became rather well versed in after doing it multiple times.

Once the lather ceased to take on the color of filth, Xander reached for a nearby, clean cloth to wipe it all away instead of soaking it in the dirty water. Once clean and dry, he raised Sakura’s knuckles to his lips, placing a soft and chaste kiss to her skin. ❝That’s much better,❞ he said, voice quiet.

A hand came to grasp Leo’s shoulder. Xander’s voice was strict; slightly frustrated—a tone that made it obvious that Leo had done something that his elder brother was less than fond of. He likely knew exactly what it was that had led Xander to take up such a firm voice with him.

Examining the wound in his younger brother’s upper arm closer, it seemed like an attempt had been made at healing it. Xander could only assume that it was Niles’ work: some scar tissue was visible, and that which wasn’t fully fused back together was mostly scabbed over, but still bleeding slightly. Despite the fact that Leo’s retainer had taken up the staff, his true skills laid in bowmanship. Magic and healing simply weren’t his specialties.

❝You ought to have Elise see to this before you retire to your tent.❞ Honestly, for all of the intelligence that Leo possessed, he was as stubborn as a mule.

Instead, he frowned towards the floor, small hands playing with the hems of his clothes. He had never been the type of child to argue with his father. Even now, his words of protest couldn’t really be considered “arguing”.

He knew that his father had been just as sad as him when his mother – when Katerina – died. How could he just…find someone else? Arete was a nice lady, and Azura was nice, too, but Xander didn’t want a new mother. He didn’t need a new mother. He had one already.
