My preferred ambit to work with, regarding rhetoric, is Pathos. I believe emotions are one of the most efficient appeals when trying to persuade an audience. A method regarding writing is the proper use of words. I am thinking about what words so my readers understand what this assignments meant to me and how they shaped my entire semester projects. All of this in order to create a greater impact on my readers.

The second ambit I feel more comfortable working with, is Logos. My best attempt to appeal to logic is by displaying the information in an understandable way (though it may sound redundant, some people do not do it), writing about the assignments in the order they were delivered, and explaining how each assignment’s contributed to the next one. 

Finally, regarding Ethos, the rhetoric ambit I find most difficult to work with, I am going to talk about the purpose behind these assignments and that they were part of a class whose purpose is to learn how to use rhetoric properly and improve writing skills. 

Regarding design, I will appeal to emotions by the use of images, starting with the cover picture that I am planning to use in these spot.

As for logic, I am going to design the website so it is easy to navigate through it. Also, I will try to get advantage of the proper grouping and alignment design features that we have learned in this last week. Logic appeal can also be improved by using consistency along the website, which will facilitate the previously mentioned easy understanding. 

Finally, for Ethos, I will maybe use some quotes from experts in me reflections or say how this class was helpful in accomplishing each one of the assignments and how that is related to their purpose. Of course credibility can also be displayed when there is a proper use of balance ans grouping, which makes the website look more professional.

Ethos, Pathos & Logos:

ETHOS is one of my favorite section because its all about telling the truth! In order to have credibility on what you are saying it need to be true.

Homepage: I will introduce myself by giving true facts and not something I just made up.... like I’m actually famous..

Assignment Reflections: I will use my past assignments as prof of the information I am giving.

Reading Reflections: I will use ethos by using the E-Book and recommended links by the teacher. This sources are reliable and credible. 

PATHOS: 

I will focus on the use of color, sound, images, motivational appeals, use vivid or emotional language, and most importantly give a message with emotional impact.

Homepage: I will use picture and images of my self to describe my personality. I will also use appropriate fonts, sizes and colors so the reader can navigate more efficiently.

Assignment Reflection: In this section I will write about the struggles and obstacles I faced while making each assignment. This will add emotion and credibility to what I am saying.

LOGOS:

I will focus on the layout and organization of the home page, since it’s the first pages the reader is going to see. It need to be organized and simple to understand. I will use logic on how I arrange the website. 

Homepage: I will have my name in a bigger font to emphasize who’s the page is. I will also have a menu bar to inform the reader where they can find each section.

Assignment Reflection: I will specify each reflection to its assignment so I wont confuse the reader on what I am talking about. 

I will employ Ethos, Pathos, Logos as a designer:

Ethos: I will ensure I use credible sources on all my website. The use of good grammar and punctuations is very important.

Pathos: I will ensure the layout of my website is simple and east to use. I will use one or two neutral colors so it wont look to much. I will also use simple language so the reader wont have a hard time reading threw my website. 

Logos: I will arrange everything in a specific order so the reader wont have any problems. I will only have 3 pages, one for each topic needed.

Week 15: Thinking about your website

Section A: Design principles applied?

In terms of balance, the website does a decent job. I do feel that most of the images and text are distributed in a way that they have equal weight. However, there are a few scenarios where this is not the case. For instance, the area at the bottom right corner (which contains twitter, google translator, and Skype) has three different sized boxes where I feel they should have all been of equal size.

In this site, contrast is used in areas such as the image and the explanation of what MemberVenue is. The image contains different color texts in order to described what is happening in the picture, whereas the section to the right of it explains what MemberVenue is and how much it costs to join.

The website is consistent. The reason I say this is because it uses the color yellow to make important information stand out as well as bolding the text. The rest of the site uses two shades of purple to stay uniform, but to also create differences between sections.

The website does not align the elements on the page very well. Sections should be aligned better, and not all over the place. Although the alignment is bad, the website does do a good job of grouping sections. Everything that should be together is together.

I do not feel that the website is effective in terms of its design. At a first glance, the website seems to be put together poorly with very little thought. Many elements of design are missing and the audience is left not understanding the purpose of the website.

When it comes to balance, on this website the designer does a very good job. The different images and text are distributed in ways that create a sense of equal weight.

Contrast is employed on this site by the use of five main sections. The sections are marked different from one another allowing the audience to quickly find what they need. The subheadings are in large text with the information underneath, making it easy to understand.

The website does a great job at creating consistency. By the use of five sections, the audience is able to navigate easily and in each section, elements resemble each other.  All of the headings are the same size, and you can tell the difference between them and the body text.

On this website, alignment was great. Every section had a sense of uniform and although they had different layouts, all of the elements were placed perfectly. In terms of grouping, the page made sure to keep the introduction and background information at the top that way the audience would understand just what they were going to see once they scrolled down. This was created in all five sections, and like items were put together very well.

Based on my analysis of the site in terms of design, the website was effective. The audience can easily navigate through the site and get their information effortless because it was all presented to them at the beginning with promotion at the end.

Section B: Implications for your own design:

In order to ensure that my website is balanced, I will make sure that each element of my page is equal to the other in terms of weight. This can be done by spreading out the content and using text and images that are relatively the same size or fit well together.

I will contrast my site by following the theme of the second website. By using different sized subheading text from the body text this can create the type of contrast needed.

Consistency on my website will be employed by the use of colors and same size font/style. Once the designer starts to use too many colors that do not match, or a bunch of different fonts the website becomes less effective.

By using alignment and grouping in my website the page will become more effective. This can be done by using multiple tools, not only on my mac but on different websites as well. I can create a template on a powerpoint, or piktochart to ensure all elements are aligned and grouped.

The colors that I will use for my website will most likely be black and white with a blue overlay.

Another way that I can ensure my website is well-designed is by looking at popular websites and implementing their elements on my page.

WEEK 15

ANALYSIS:

1. The images and text are distributed all over the webpage. In my opinion they are not distributed equal. You can see the 3 images on the top then a big image on the left side of the page, occupying more than half of the page. To the right you can see only words with no equal images to balance the webpage. 

2. The contrast is ver different through the page. It has different font sizes and colors. On the top it has blue and red colors while on the text to the right it is black with a little blue. The font in the graph is completely different form the rest.

3. The consistency is very different. It is all over the place. It has different types of colors and fonts. 

4. Alignment and grouping is confusing. I can tell the vertical distribution. On the top you can se some information. In the center you can see the graph  and to the right text. It is not well distributed. 

5. In my opinion, I did not like the design in this web page. It’s confusing. The graph has to much words that is later explained in the text to the right. 

1. The balance is very good. You can see the table of contents to the right and then the first page centered to the right. 

2. The contrast is equal. The font is the same, it only changes it sizes. The site is distributed equally. It does not have to much colors in the background. 

3. The page has consistency. The color of the fonts is all black, it only varies in size. The distribution of information is interesting and very organized. 

4. Alignment and grouping is perfect. I like how it has different pages for each information. You have the begging page with the title and then it guides you to the next page and so on.. 

5. I liked the design! It si very organized and modern. You can explore the whole page with no problem because it has arrows that guide you threw it. 

SECTION B: IMPLICATIONS FOR YOUR OWN DESIGN. 

1. I will have the same font. Maybes change in size and color, but keeping the same font so the page can be balance and easy to understand. 

2. I will use contrast by using only 2 or 3 colors as layout. Only focusing in certain colors so it wont look to busy. 

3. I will have consistency in my website by having the same layout. I will try to distribute the information equally so it wont look to confusing. I can use arrows to guide the reader threw my website. 

4. Alignment and grouping: I will have a menu that will let the reader know where all the information is. I will also separate the information into different pages. 

5. I will use, as mention, 2 to 3 colors. I want my webpage to be simple. I will have 1 color for background and another color for the font and the last color for any other thing needed. 

6. I will ensure my website is well design by working on it everyday. I will also use the E-Book to guide me with important points. I will also use other websites to compare it to mine.

Documentary

Since we have already worked as a group, hopefully it won’t be hard to determine the meeting days. Following a similar format for the poster project, I plan to meet with my group especially on Monday after 10:30 am. However, I believe the load for this task is heavier so we will probably have to meet during the week, maybe Wednesday at noon, and even Friday at any time possible.

As mentioned, the load for this project might take a bit of extra effort so it will be necessary to work alone. I am planning to do that on Tuesday and Thursday.

One of the most important parts of the meetings is to discuss what and how each of the group members will do. We are going to address aspects as the introduction, the claim, our style, good research, advocating, the use of Ethos, Pathos and Logos, and the Conclusion. 

In order to properly address these aspects, we will use the e-book to check what is required from each one of them and the internet to complement the information. 

The aspects I am most concerned about are the claim and the style. 

Claim: Not because I do not now my position towards the matter or because I do no not know what I want my audience to think, but because I am not sure on how to structure it. 

Style: I am a die-hard fan of the seventh art, so I am very picky about every single detail related to it. Therefore, defining our style for this project might be a bit difficult. 

However, the guidelines from the e-book seem helpful and with some time meditating by myself I might be able to create a mental picture of what we want to do for the project. 

I feel more confident about the Introduction, the Conclusion, and the Copyright because once the main part of the documentary is done, these aspects are merely technical and easier to work with.

Week 14

As this is a BIG assignment, we will need to dedicate enough time to complete it! I will be working on it on Mondays, Tuesdays and a little bit on Thursdays.

Little by little.. 

Since we are only 2 persons in our group, we will be working on Mondays at 10:20 and on Tuesdays at noon. 

I will be working on my own on my free time when I am not at work.

We will be preparing for the presentation. We will be dividing our task and working together on the most important. We would be defining our style, preparing our intro good research, advocating, the use of Ethos, Pathos and Logos, and the Conclusion. 

I will do intense research on the topic so I can explain it fully on the presentation. 

I am most concerned over the information we will be presented. I want to make our statement clear, let the audience understand our point of view and the message we are trying to transmit. 

We will use the E Book to help us arrange our presentation. 

I am more confident on our poster! I like how it is arrange and is straight forward with the information. 

I also feel comfortable with our topic. I have learned a lot from it and I think a can explained it with clarity.

Analyzing Research Poster

The title of the poster I chose to analyze is Conflict Minerals: Should Businesses Avoid or Develop?

This poster is similar to our group’s in the sense that it includes the following sections: Title, Author/s, Introduction and Results. However, it is missing the Conclusion and Sources sections, which are fundamental for our own poster.

The purpose of the poster is to create awareness of the slavery conditions that many people in in order to sustain an illegal armed force mineral exportation (conflict mineral) market. The purpose is very clear and effectively displayed from the topic itself to the use of text and visual aids.

The intended audience for the poster could be the companies that source conflict minerals themselves, the government auditors that make sure that companies do not work with conflict mineral suppliers, and of course, the people in general who are costumers of these companies. It effectively appeals to all of these audiences by using a language that is easy to understand, but powerful in the sense that it shares the responsibility of the situation not only with those militia groups that enslave people, but those companies and costumers that either allow it or propitiate the market by consuming conflict mineral based products. 

Though not many sources are used in this poster, it displays credibility by including the reference where the information of the average American’s daily use of conflict minerals was taken from. It also includes the name of the Act that the government passed in order to audit the companies’ suppliers. 

The best used appeal is the emotional one. The poster describes fairly enough the conditions the salves work in, and it raises the human rights issue in a apparently free world. The use of an image that compares the price of a diamond necklace with the blood of a woman is a powerful, intense, and effective method for appealing to emotions. 

Finally, the poster appeals to logic by stating that these situation is a destructive loop because people have to work to satisfy their needs, and with the money the militia groups get from the exportation of those minerals, they buy more weapons. So is a cycle of needs and demands for vile purposes. 

Analyzing this purpose helped me in some ways. Regarding organization, I believe our group poster is okay, and just some minor changes have to be made, In the other hand, regarding rhetoric, we might have to work a bit on that, especially on the emotional appeal. 

Though we have to improve some things in our poster, we are doing a good job so far :)

Week 13

I chose the poster: INTERNET INEQUALITY 

A.2. This poster is very different from my poster. First of all, it has more color and pictures than mine. The information is distributed alike, with the intro to the left, method in the middle and the conclusion to the right. 

A.3. The purpose of the poster is to investigate the effect of internet access at home with school success. yes the purpose is clear. I do believe the purpose is clear because of the way the information is presented. It is easy to read and understand. 

A.4. The audience of this poster is very opened to many audiences, simple enough for general audience but enough methodological detail for experts. The graphs used targets the experts and the easy wording targets the general audience.

A.5-7. This poster does have Ethos, pathos and logos. First of all it has credibility because it states where the author got the information. Second the information presented makes sense. Lastly, the colors presented in the poster brings attention to the audience. 

B.1. I will use this sample poster to guide me. I liked how this poster had more color and images, I will do that to my own poster. I also liked how the information was clear and to the point, I feel my poster does not have that. I will definitely work on that!

Week 12 Reflecting on research skills

Let’s get started

Before this class I honestly would have fallen flat on my face trying to conduct a research paper on my own! 

But now I feel pretty confident. If i had to write another one outside of this class, i have so many tools and tricks that Audrey has given us to use! That’s why taking everything she gives us seriously is very important for future classes. She has given us a good basis for future papers.

At the beginning of the semester I didn’t really understand the whole point of picking a semester topic, but taking a step back now it has really opened my eyes. Everything that Audrey has had us do in class in only going to help us later including the scholarly research and making contacts in our own fields through primary research. Overall Audrey has better prepared me for future papers as an undergrad and grad student!

Making us do the primary research, has opened the door for us to make contacts with people that are currently working our fields of interest. The people we interviewed may be our future professors, advisors, or peers once in our fields.

Even though I’m not directly affected by the topic I chose for research, I can still help make a difference. Being the racial majority in the nursing field doesn’t necessarily put me ahead however. Through the research i found, I still have to keep up my motivation and determination to be the best nurse I can be. Recruiters look for several things outside of race and cultural competence. With the growing racial minority population, it would be in my best interest to diversify the way I think and learn. This could help me have better patient interaction in the future when I become an RN.

Week 12

When they first told me were doing a literature review I was like....

But as it started it didn’t look that bad.. 

I actually found it interesting, I learned many things about the business field.I learned how there are a lot  of Hispanic-owned businesses in El Paso and increasing each year! As I was creating my Literature review it was okey, as long as I did one piece at a time I was perfect. I can not lie... I hated looking for scholarly articles but I LOVED looking at open source material, because I found it more interesting. 

What I learned while making a Research paper is very important in this course because it will help me in my further research papers or even for my personal use. When I need to do any research over a topic, now I know how to do that! I am planing on graduating with a Marketing Mayor, in that profession one of the most important thinks is knowing how to sale you product. In order to do than you need to know you target... therefore doing intense research on them. I do believe that what I learned in this course will help me in my professional and personal life.

Once I started to learn over the diversity of Hispanics in the Business field, I found it amazing how even though they are a minority they play a HUGE part in the U.S. economy. I have always wanted to open a business of my own but never though it was going to happen until now. Once I saw how many people are just like me, with the same background. I felt encourage to fight for what I want! I want to be part of that Hispanic-owned businesses that keep growing each year.

1st off: What are the assignment requirements for this section?

Intro: Introductions can be easy, but they can also be tricky. The tip on introductions, is to wait until the end of the paper to write them, but here are the Requirements:

It requires a clear and precise description of how an experiment was done, and the rationale for why specific experimental procedures were chosen.

   - Describe what was done to answer the research question.

   - Justify the experimental design
