Junpei without Quark was a strange sight. Sigma had always suspected that Junpei had in all honesty, tolerated him solely for Quark’s sake…no, suspected wasn’t the right word—known was. The awkward smalltalk gradually turned into hostile, passive aggression yet toxic retorts that slice right through him throughout the years. It was a bit difficult to not notice.
He's too busy mentally preparing himself for the days in which Quark will be gone to fully register Sigma's go ahead. It's not until he mentions Akane that he instantly looks over to him.
"It's not a son and father duo if the father aint there, am I right?"
He does nothing but stare as his quiet laughter gives way to sudden coughing. He notes that he seems about as lively as ever, what with him sputtering about like that.
Even so, he can't believe Akane's married to this man.
Part of him figures he should move closer and make sure his burly savior would be okay. The other part, he knows, wants to childishly scoff and be openly annoyed at his antics.
It hasn't even been five minutes and he already wants to leave.
When prodded about his intentions for being here, he oddly silent.
Why was he here? It's not as though he hadn't already thanked him for pushing him out of the way, consequently putting his life on the line and possibly leaving Kyle (and Akane, he reminds himself bitterly) all alone.
His eyes slowly close, a small sigh escaping him while he slumps further against the wall.
"...Just felt like it," He feels himself scoff, "What? Is it that surprising to see me here, of all people?" It comes out harsher than he meant it to, but the words were also directed at himself. Normally, he'd go out of his way to avoid Sigma, so...what changed?
A hand hurriedly runs through his bangs, just the way he often did whenever he felt frustrated. His forehead is momentarily exposed before his hand moves on to rake through the rest of his head to scratch the back of it.
Why was it that simply being near Sigma irritated him? It's not as though he was...THAT bad of a man. At least he couldn't be if Akane married him. Quark liked him. Kyle...
...Something about Kyle and Sigma's relationship just didn't sit well with him. It was hardly his business...but Quark was good friends with the guy, and Junpei couldn't help but to want to protect him too. Somehow...
"...Why'd you do it?" His eyes opened, looking back at Sigma with determination. "Why'd you have to go and risk your life for mine?"
'Why'd you have to go and worry your son like that?'

White walls, white sheets, white floors. He’s never been very fond of hospitals.
His visits were usually negative, hilariously negative at the least, one of his brothers injuring themselves in some sort of stupid attempt at something. His father would have occasional heart troubles of some sort but hell, he was capable of enduring it. To think he could’ve been working at a place home to miracles and curses from nature—both always grotesque, is strange.
He stands in front of the door, gazing silently down at the number inscribed in the plaque to make sure he had the right room. And he knew he had it right— this wasn't the first time he dropped by.
But this was different— Quark had been with him then. He had been excited to see Sigma (always excited to see Sigma). The kid had been worried sick over him (Junpei reminds himself he’d be worried sick over him had Sigma not…) and begging Junpei to take him to see Sigma as often as possible (and who was he to refuse Quark that?).
With a sigh, he tries to lightly knock on the door. It comes out louder than he intends it to and he flinches, glaring at his hand. Stupid, freakishly large—
Turns out the door wasn't shut tightly, and it creaks open. He steps inside and lays his eyes on Sigma, who welcomes him in. His eyes shift over to the chair nearby, but he quickly decides to stand and lean against the wall instead. He’s not planning on staying for very long anyway.
"…I’m not into sports, much," his hands instantly move to the inside of his jean’s pockets, thumbs sticking out. "Or soaps," he adds that as an afterthought, even as he looks around the room. Everything’s so painfully white on white it makes him feel sick, and he wonders if that’s just the natural effect that hospitals have on him.
"Quark’s doing alright," he hears himself say, eyes focused on the clock on the wall. He’s still not fully sure why he came over without being prodded to, but it’s always been easier to talk to Sigma when he didn’t have to actually look at him. “He’s probably done his homework and should be playing with Kyle by now…”
His eyes follow the clock’s movements.
"He’s still pretty worried about you. Both of them are, really. Kyle’s a quiet guy, but it’s easy to tell he’s still worried sick over his father…” Something clicks in his mind. Right. Sigma’s a father too. He has a family too. He’s important. He matters. He…
"…Quark said he’d like to spend more time over at your place, once you got out. If that’s okay with you. He said he didn't want to be a bother but he wants to help out anyway he can." The words leave his lips easy, but he can feel his stomach flip and the familiar feeling of loneliness settling in anticipation of those days.
