so i'm actually a bit of a big fan of hot rod / rodimus prime. but he's always done so DIRTY. late season 3 him giving up and giving the matrix back to optimus....love a lot of ideas they had for him in the IDW comic but HOW MANY TIMES does he have to learn to be mature and responsible? like does he have recurring amnesia???

like im in the post soft reboot IDW comics and been liking it, i hear this is the era ppl like the best and i like the idea of one run on cybertron and the other off - but even there, hot rod is just immature so far. im sure he'll learn, but like they already did that like 3 times in the previous runs

was rly hoping to see him in the games i've played too but no luck

i really like hot rod and him as an unlikely leader of his people, and a uniter of post autobot and decepitcons...do i have any good hot rod content ahead of me or is it all doomed? i feel like everyone hates him T_T

Genuinely killing myself every time I remember Adaptica and Megatron spending the whole time talking over Rodimus but the worst part to me is that it would fuck extremely good if RODIMUS got stuck there so that the major part of Megatron’s “redemption” wouldn’t be off-screen AND JRO would end up able to put Autocracy as canon to MTMTE because it’s not like he didn’t have Autocracy in mind for Rodimus, he very much said he did, AND IT WOULDNT BE A “DO OVER” OF THE DECEPTICONS FOR MEGATRON CUZ SOEMHOW I DONT THINK THAT AT THAT POINT(OR EVER REALLY) THAT MEGATRON WOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP HIMSELF FROM MAKING THE AVL INTO DECEPTICONS 2.0

I don't really know where JRO said he had autocracy in mind for mtmte Rodimus (if he said this in the last 5 years i dont care, if he said it in a tweet i care even less) but i dont see why him being stuck in a different dimension would make it more canon if jro hadnt just.. made an effort to mention it. Literally all jro had to do (or any other writer in idw really) was to acknowledge Nyon's existence and the fact it was the FIRST casualty of the war. It genuinely didn't have to be anything grand.. just a "oh, we used to do __ in nyon" or "this is a nice little party/phrase we used to use in nyon". like i hate that mtmte made it so that the phrase "till all are one" is a cliche or something dumb and silly rodimus loves to say bc op says it. Hot rod was the one who introduced optimus to the concept. it is a religious saying. I always thought of it as the ending of a prayer. ooohh my god sorry i just started reading autocracy again to get the panel and i am suddenly reminded that idw hot rod becoming an autobot is so fucking weird when he hears them say shit like this while in the city. do they have brain damage.

anyway classism and police brutality and government neglect aside heres them finding the scripts hot rod purposefully wanted them to find within the acroplex

anyway i also think BOTH of megatron's development (his initial months in the lost light and the whatever hundred years in the alt universe) are stupid as fuuuckkkk and i dont believe its JUST because "there were cuts to the run time" because jro is a comic writer. he should be well versed in cuts and should be able to adapt his script but he would rather make the busiest panels ever than compromise on anything and just keep blaming outside forces for his own hubris

I was kind of insane and incoherent last night when I sent this in so I understand how you could interpret it that way. Autocracy is so near and dear to my heart and I fucking hate that IDW never ever brings it up again like ever. I saw these two videos of JRO being asked at a con about Rodimus’ character and whether he took Autocracy as canon and I’m just so mad that somehow he turned Rodimus into a damn joke at every turn in what was supposed to be his own comic. Mind you I don’t think he said he took Autocracy as canon but if he really wanted to he could have brought it up.

The art for Autocracy was so ass and they immediately made it worse in Monstrosity. I hate that that whole trilogy is about fucking Optimus and Megatron god.

the way mtmte treats rodimus is so deranged it drives me soo mad. genuinely i got so mad reading hot rod trust SWINDLE of all people (though i do think it might have something to do with Swindle being implied to be from nyon in autocracy i also dont think whoever wrote that was thinking abt it) but nothing makes me more upset than to see Hot Rod being a very well respected high ranking soldier who thinks quickly and is determined in his tasks to succeed and is SO haunted by the loss of his team that he goes solo for the entire rest of his servitude to becoming a guy who Obviously Has No Experience, Acts Like A Child, Puts People In Danger, and also doesnt care when people under his command die. literally fuck ooooofffffff if you wanted to make a stupid useless twink who sometimes seems tortured you couldve just chosen anyone else. made a new character. or idk. after the killswitch happens theres this written exerpt where minimus sees rodimus as a good leader who is putting his crews needs above his own and then thats immediately abandoned the instant they land on cybertron literally bffr

YEA LITERALLY. I remember my first reading the Costa run and Phase 1 stuff with only Autocracy and Spotlight : Hot Rod and Doubledealer and Lost Light (yes it was a truly demented choice to read ll BEFORE mtmte but in my defense I thought they were pretty interchangeable and people keep saying MTMTE and LL are the best of IDW and to start there so. Read that behavior however you like) and seeing him trusting SWINDLE absolutely KILLED ME. That is not the same Hot Rod that was absolutely devastated by Dealer’s betrayal and still whipped out his gun faster than the guy actively betraying him for years. Like it’s crazy to me in his spotlight that Hot Rod just wants to make what he sees as his mistake right and Dealer calls him an idiot when talking to Banzaitron about his deception, and then in Dealer’s spotlight he’s trying real hard not to get attached to Hot Rod and Hot Rod kills him first. Peak Hot Rod to me. It all went downhill for everyone from there but especially for Hot Rod omfg.

I’ve since been reading as much of IDW as I can and I’ve had to take a break because it keeps pissing me off and technically this is my second reread of Dark Cybertron and MTMTE but literally anytime Optimus APPEARS gets me so heated and I want to bash in Rodimus’ head so bad you would think that my goal would be to use the cte he’d get from that to bring back some past characterization.
