One thing I’ve always hated is where you search up a tag for an underrated character and think you’ve found a really good fic only to realize the author tags the entire cast.
Anna Akhmatova, from a poem titled "White Flock," featured in An Anthology of Contemporary Russian Women Poets

UGH 3rd year Tenya Iida
Iida isn’t always the one taking care of everyone else.
The knock at your dorm room came at exactly 9:13 p.m.
Three knocks.
A two-second pause.
Then three more.
Only one person knocked like that.
You opened the door to find Tenya standing perfectly straight, though something immediately felt…off.
“Good evening,” he greeted.
“Hi…” You frowned. “Are you okay?”
“I am functioning adequately.”
Not I’m fine.
Functioning.
That was your first clue.
His tie was crooked.
That was your second.
You’d been dating Tenya long enough to know that a crooked tie was practically a cry for help.
“…Come in.”
“I do not wish to inconvenience—”
“Tenya.”
“…Very well.”
He stepped inside, setting his school bag down with unusual care before sitting on the edge of your bed.
Silence.
You waited.
Eventually, he sighed—a rare, tired sound.
“I failed.”
Your heart dropped.
“What happened?”
“I was selected to mentor several first-years during training today.”
“…Okay?”
“I gave them instructions. Demonstrated techniques. Ensured everyone’s safety.”
“Sounds like you.”
“They still struggled.”
He looked down at his hands.
“I kept wondering what I should have done differently.”
You sat beside him.
“They’re first-years.”
“I know.”
“They’re supposed to struggle.”
“I know.”
“They’re learning.”
“I know.”
His voice grew quieter.
“…But I felt responsible.”
There it was.
Tenya always carried responsibility like it belonged solely to him.
“If someone has a bad day,” you said softly, “you think it’s because you didn’t help enough.”
He didn’t answer.
Which was answer enough.
You reached over and loosened his tie.
His eyes widened.
“W-What are you doing?”
“It’s bothering me.”
“My tie?”
“No.”
You gently slipped the knot open anyway.
“You are.”
His shoulders relaxed the tiniest bit.
Then you undid the first button of his uniform shirt.
“I-I believe this is slightly improper—”
“You can survive one unbuttoned collar.”
“…I suppose.”
“You don’t have to be Class Representative every second of every day.”
“I know.”
“You don’t have to have all the answers.”
“I know.”
“You don’t have to earn being loved.”
That one made him freeze.
His glasses hid his eyes for a moment as he looked down.
“…I did not realize I was behaving as though I did.”
“You weren’t behaving.”
“So much as thinking?”
“Yeah.”
A long silence settled between you.
Finally, he leaned sideways until his head rested against yours.
It wasn’t dramatic.
It wasn’t even graceful.
Just…a tiny bit of his weight.
Trusting you to hold it.
“I appreciate you,” he murmured.
“You don’t have to thank me.”
“I know.”
“You don’t have to apologize either.”
“I wasn’t going to.”
“Oh?”
“…I was going to ask if we might remain like this for several minutes.”
You smiled.
“As many minutes as you need.”
For once, Tenya Iida let someone else carry the weight.
And for the first time all day, he felt like he could breathe.
UGH HE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A PLACE IN MY HEART❤️
