“I’m afraid not, but being the kind citizen that I am, I have room in my place for you.” The male replied with a smirk as he pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips while he fished for a lighter out of his pockets.

Aspen gave him a skeptical look, not sure how to take his offer and whether there was anything genuine about his words. The smirk currently on his lips wasn’t helping the matter at all, if anything it set her more on edge. Though she was currently at the point where desperation was kicking in, the thought of having to spend another night sleeping in a bus shelter was enough to make her consider taking the chance. “What’s the catch?”

“I’m sorry, are you talking to me? You don’t even know me.”

“So is there a hotel or something around here?”

“I’ve checked the back exit as well.” Jean said, turning to speak after hearing the woman’s comment. It was no accident that they had all been locked in there. “All the exits are blocked…” 

“We’re stuck here?” Evie couldn’t help the confusion that she felt, as her brows furrowed. “Why would someone lock the doors keeping us all here? You can clearly hear that there are still people here, it’s the middle of the day.”

Not having any idea to the current commotion that seemed to be happening on the other side of the building and the series of events that were about to unfold, she’d folded up her towel and the rest of her belongings and went to exit the building only to come to a complete halt. As she pushed down on the handle, she noticed how stiff it had suddenly gone and the lack of movement that usually came so easy to the door. Jiggling the handle a few times, it didn’t take long for her to realise that it was locked and with no sign of a key. Glancing around, her brows furrowed as she saw that there was no one lingering or watching to give the impression it was a practical joke. “The doors locked. Why is the door locked? This isn’t funny, I need to go home. This shouldn’t be locked, it’s a fire hazard.”
