13 June - No Matarás at Whitetrash - Berlin
Fresh independent feedback about our song to be released soon.
“This typically isn't a style of music that I seek out or listen to very often, but I can definitely appreciate the track these boys have to put together sure. A really young, quirky sound to their vocals, but they have a good harmony and belt their lines in unison. They have the makings of a solid commercial band, no doubt. The lyrics are fun, interesting and easy going. The instrumental play itself is heavy, fast paced and well arranged overall. These guys really sound like they know what they're doing and that's always a good sign. I'm about midway through now and I find myself bobbing my head to the frantic drumming. I actually find myself really enjoying this and it reminds me of my rebellious teen years. This song really embodies that kind of mood with it 's upbeat anarchy of a tone. Good job, guys.”
“I like the surf punk sound to this song. The guitars bring that head thrashing tone. The vocalist has that nasally voice perfect for this song. The rhythm and instrumentals are very driving and make me want to get up and dance. The shaping is always loud and satisfying. If only I knew what this guy was actually saying, then I could judge the lyrics but judging by everything else in this song, it has that fun Blink-182 feel that many people would love.”
“A JAM right off of rip! I LOVE the energy. Can't understand a single lick but I like it ALOT. Killer structure. Wish I understood the content but I do like he dynamic. The sound quality is there too. Not a DOUBT abut that. The singer sounds just as confident as the backing musicians paying along.” “This song has a very infectious beat that captures me in the introduction. The song reminds me of a tv show opening. I wish I knew what they were saying because they seem to be very light hearted and happy. The fast pace makes it a very likable piece.” “The beat is perfect tempo. This is the type of music that you would listen to on the way to school. If you listen to the drums when they clash it makes the power come alive. Then the guitar solo gets you on your toes. The vibe that the lead singer gives off is crazy.”
“great drums, good mix on the recording, singer is good. The arrangement is strong, This song would work good for TV or Movies, or even some type of commercial advertising use. The production is fine, wouldn't change anything. Since this song is in another language can't comment on lyrics, but the phrasing of the vocalist is perfect.”
“I loved that this track actually had some meaning to it and not just a bunch of nothing. The track has a lot of heartfelt kind of vibes to it, with so much of a great setup to the song as a whole. I think I would love to hear more music like this if there is more of a modernist kind of vibe as a whole, it's just a bit too gloomy to the chorus or the hook if you will. I like that the lyrics touch me as well, it 's very fun and energetic!”
“Great up beat song that makes me want to listen to the end. The vocalist does accompany the melody very well. This song had me dancing an toe tapping. This band could definitely be part of a show case. I would love to hear more from this artist. This is a great song.”
“The song is very energetic and upbeat. It reminds me of late 90s to early 00s pop rock. While I'm pretty sure the language the vocalist is singing is not English, I enjoyed listening to it anyway. I would listen to it again even though I do not know what the lyrics mean. The background instrumentals are simple yet fun to listen to.”
“Is it the Spanish Ramones? I kid, but truthfully, that 's where my mind went from the start of this song, and the longer I listen to it, the more I stick with that feeling. The guitars have almost the same tone, the drums are reminiscent of Ramones-style licks, and the vocals, while not exactly the same in terms of pitch, the tone is almost an exact match. Being a fan of the Ramones, this song is quite catchy to my ears. I can't really understand the lyrics, but overall, on a quality level, it's really outstanding work.”
“This track is so fun! It's not going on my favorite list but I did really like this song. It's got really great energy. I loved the drums and the fast tempo. This would be something that I would play at a party to get everyone pumped. I think that the lyrics kind of get lost in the music but that actually works for this track. I would dance around to this song, or put it on my workout playlist and I would definitely play it on a road trip with all my friends. We'd get loud and sing at the top of our voices! It 's an awesome track!”
“The intro of the song sounds really nice and cool. The song can bring memories and pictures into you're mind and you can imagine what the singer is thinking about. The singers vocals also help with that. The voice is rough and stylish for the music genre. The melody and vibe are right and mix in with the song making the ultimate structure comp able. The song is rough like i said before and it makes sense. The song is better to listen to if it makes sense. The instruments for the song I can hear clear, but it kinda makes it hard to listen to what the singer is saying. Other then the negative parts the song was a great piece of work and it was entertaining.”
“I like that rolling sounds that the drums have. I like that they sound like they are really playing with a lot of skill. I like the snare as well. The snare really sounds so good. The snare has this really good sound that I really enjoyed so much. I like that this song just kept getting better and better as the song went on. The guy singing in the different language really made this song sound really good. I like that he had a urban sound and mixed it in with the language he was singing in. The melody had really high notes and I like that the lyrics sounded really diverse. The electric guitars had this rock feel that i thought really escalated the song.”
“Rock punk immediately pulls you in great song. The instrumentals are modern and a blast from the past of old punk rock groups. The ramones would be proud. It keeps your attention and you can dance to it. The melody is nice. I would play it in my car with the windows down or dance to it in my living room.”
“I got a spanish greenday vibe from this song right away, it is almost as if the band could be called verdedia the voice is really nice and keeps a ring in your ear to keep listening. It works well with the upbeat tempo of the instruments that are playing, overall I liked this song and it was quite fun to listen to. Good song”
“A very easy to listen to Spanish song. Very upbeat, and energetic. Great melody and beats are great to! Musical arrangement is perfect for this flow, never drops off or adds in anything not needed. Great guitar focus there in the middle. Lyrics, I can't really understand but the beat of the song tells me they are fun, and exciting. You can tell a lot of work when into this tune. I am sure I will hear it again on the radio in no time. Vocals seem to be just fine on pitch, with a good range. No issues with flow or mixes that don't mesh well. Good harmony, and melody!”
To be released soon... counting....
We did it wrong
As No Mataras moved to Berlin in 2012 we started to record all our songs, initially with the ipad to leave register of our music.
We wanted to give something unique to our fans, and f*ck we did it, but the idea was too complex or hard to understand?
This was the plan:
Create something home made, unique so there's no two CD's equal.
The components:
Postage stamp from the old DDR (they have really cool artwork)
Rubber stamp with a girl and a boy
CD printer
Cool art for the CD
Numeric rubber stamp
Number and Date rubber stamp
Colored paper CD envelopes
Nice envelope for shipping
Small details
A lot of love an patience
Postage stamp from the DDR
We found very interesting the DDR communication (propaganda) artwork and we believe that is a kind of collectible piece of art as our CD's
Here some shots:
There are more cool artwork there you can take a look here to find more in our facebook album
Rubber stamp with a girl and a boy
To give a retro home made touch we created some rubber stamps, there is a girl, there is a boy. Pogo Garantizado!
CD printer
We used a Canon Pixma MG5350 that brings a special tray and software for CD printing, and it looks great!
Cool art for the CD
Guillaume Tissier donated some photos of his cool paintings to be used by No Mataras. Used in Mr TV and Inconsciente.
For the other EP's we found very cool positives in Mauerpark and we used them for Caminando and Joe 90. (The QR does not work :-) )
Date rubber stamp and Number rubber stamp
We wanted to put the serial number and date of the release of each CD, so, we stamped it with a date rubber stamp, with the small detail that months are in German :-)
Colored paper CD envelopes
We wanted to be colorful, so we got colored CD covers.
Nice envelope for shipping
We love to receive letters, and if the package/envelope is cool is even better. And now for something completely different:
Small details
Each CD has a number hidden on the artwork, so you are able to know in the CD itself wich number do you have, that is independent from the serial number on the envelope (yes, too much, but we did it)
A lot of love an patience
As you can see, there's a lot of work to produce this kind of CD's, and you have to love to do it. The workflow was:
1) print the CD's one by one with the unique number each. 2) record the CD's. 3) test the CD's. 4) Stamp the covers with girls and boys. 5) Stamp date and serial number. 6) Take a photo for register on our db. 7) Put into a plastic cover with some stickers. 8) (optional) Prepare the envelope for shipping: a) Print adresses and names in differnet fonts. b) Cut them and glue into the envelope. c) Stamp the envelope with boys and girls. d) Put the stamp for international post delivery.
Why it was wrong?
Today, most of the people does not buy CD's probably they don't have CD player, or it does not work. As a consumer, we are trained to buy things in a specific format, when something is different, and there's no marketing/ads supporting and telling us how cool it is, we wont buy it, because we are trained to trust on brands and big brands, we wont take risks, but when someone do that we love it.
On the other side, spotify is destroying the indie bands in our opinion, and someone is there, in between the artist and the fan, in this case is even worst than the big labels, because the labels at least gave the artist a budget to record songs and then you get cents per song, spotify just give you cents and no promotion at all.
We are planning to release our first album soon. We are working on a new strategy. For sure, wont be on spotify.
See you soon.

No Mataras - London Calling at 3rd October in The Dublin Castle
We are happy to announce our next gig in London at The dublin Castle.
The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been ran by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines. There’s DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere. But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
Just a coincidence?
