Welcome to the miscellaneous events commenting project !! (AKA, No More Zero Comment Event Fics !! I'm keeping with the theme)
This blog will be running year-round, and won't be focusing on any one specific event- instead, the goal of this particular tumblr blog is to get comments on fics that were written for events!
Which events, you may ask? Any of them. All of them. I mean, if you're putting in the time and effort to challenge yourself by writing for an event, you should get some comments out of it!!
That being said, I can't exactly know about every fic event that's ever happened without a little help- which is what the event submission form is for!! Know about an event with fics that aren't getting comments? Big or small, send it on in!! There will be spotlights for certain events, especially events which have long since come and gone, so don't be afraid to send in an event from twenty years ago!!
There's also a fic submission form for any particular fics you want to see on the spreadsheet!! You don't have to send in the event it was written for if you don't want to, especially if you know it's already been sent in here, but you're definitely encouraged to send in fics for the spreadsheet!!
There is, of course, the comment form to let me know you've commented on a fic from the spreadsheet- I'll also be doing shoutouts for the bigger commenters, so if you want to be pointed out for leaving comments, leave your tumblr @ in the form! You can also leave it anonymous if you want- the shoutout isn't mandatory :)
Submission rules:
No AI
No JKR-related fics/fandoms/events (you can send in multifandom events!! I'm just not going to include any JKR-related fics on the spreadsheet, and I'm not going to do shoutouts for any JKR/Harry Potter -specific events)
No fics that are less than a week old
It does have to be written for an event, and some indication of that has to be evident somewhere in/on the fic (you can't just send in a fic that was written for funsies and say it was written for an event, when nowhere on the actual fic does it indicate that. There are other blogs for that!!)
All the links all at once:

Who Are You?
Hi, I'm Basil, my main is @thatforgottenbasilisk, and I write sometimes :) He/Him, They/Them, and Zi/Zir for me :)
Which Events Will Get Spotlights?
Mostly events that are completed, and have been completed for a while. If an event is still ongoing, or has just completed, it's more likely that a comment is in store for you- but if it's October and you're still waiting on a comment for your Febuwhump fics, then you're more likely to be getting a spotlight.
Are The Same Events In Different Years Counted As Different Events?
For certain achievements, yes, and initially I was going to do separate spotlights for each year an event occurred- but, honestly, I can't really effectively do that 😅 so I'm settling for posting the collections separately on each spotlight post.
Will You Do Commenting Events?
Yeah! Once this project gets a little further off the ground, I'll be doing a commenting bingo, as well as any other ideas you guys want to float my way :)
What's The Spreadsheet Limit?
None at the moment!
Why Hasn't The Spreadsheet Updated?
I run this blog alone! Please be patient! Also, if you happen to catch a fic on the spreadsheet that's already been commented on, go ahead and leave another while you're at it!
In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.
I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!
From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!
I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.
Edit: Yes, this also works on mobile!
The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.
(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)
If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.
The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.
insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box
add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box
delete -> self explanatory
on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic
The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.
Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.

Coming up with a good comment can be tricky, even if you absolutely love the fic, so we’ve compiled a few resources that may be helpful in crafting comments to fill your prompts.
Resources, tutorials, and a comment-specific FAQ under the cut!
There are many excellent guides for what to include and how to structure your comments. This guide is a good place to start, as is this graphic by mromitosen (with a helpful addition by curlicuecal). For a more thorough guide, check out this post by thebiballerina. This list of comment starters is also fantastic, and there are even more great ideas in the comments.
This guide has all the info you need to zhuzh up your comments with HTML, and you can check out our commenting guide for instructions on embedding images for all your reaction image needs (avoid gifs or anything that may cause eye strain).
For those of you who like leaving long comments or quoting the fic, the floating comment box can be super helpful.
Some additional tips and recommendations:
Be kind and keep it positive! Unless they’ve specifically asked you for critique, focus on the things you enjoyed and what they did well.
Highlight details from the fic. Was there a quote that really resonated, a character choice that stood out, a description that reminded you of something? Copy-paste it into your comment and talk about it!
Ask questions about the fic or their process. How did they come up with that plot twist? What inspired the cake they described in the second chapter? If it’s a single POV fic, ask about how plot points went from another character’s POV. What songs are on their writing playlist for the fic? How did they come up with the title or the chapter titles?
Add something about your experience reading it. Did you stay up all night to finish it, or spend a lot of time thinking about how the rest of the fic might go while at work/school? How did you react to the ending, or a big plot twist? Did you set aside time specifically to read it? Share that with the author!
Consider a live reaction comment! The floating comment box recommended above is great for these. Note your reactions while reading the fic like you would when liveblogging a TV show. By the time you get to the end, you’ll have a great comment that the author will absolutely love.
Read your comment from their perspective. If you got your comment on one of your fics, would you be happy to receive it? If not, tweak it a little.
If a fic fits your prompt but you can’t find anything to say, or didn’t enjoy it, look for another fic. Please don’t force an insincere or bland comment just to fill a square on your card. The internet is full of fics, so if something you read doesn’t resonate with you, simply move on and find a different fic. The purpose of the event is to spread the love and give writers genuine, heartfelt comments on their fics. Please keep that in mind while commenting!
To avoid being mistaken for a bot or a scammer, don’t be unkind or aggressive, and do not invite the author to a second location to discuss the fic - this is one of the sneaky openers art commission scammers have been using to trick authors into talking to them offsite. For more information on the art commission scam, check out AO3’s post about it here. You can also read about the bots and scammers, as well as see many examples of their techniques on both r/AO3 and r/fanfiction, where posts from distressed victims are depressingly common.
To address a few other questions we’ve gotten about commenting - while it’s fine to double-up and count a fic for more than one prompt if a fic happens to fit both, please keep it to two prompts per fic. The idea of the challenge is to comment as much as possible, not simply check off lots of boxes.
If you fill your card and would like more prompts, check out our mini challenges (we’ll add a new one each Sunday!) or grab our extra commenting card here. If you manage to finish all of that, please contact us for additional prompts or an extra card.
As a reminder, if you’re participating as a commenter, there are no official requirements for sharing, but if you’d like to make a rec list of all the fics you’ve commented on to recommend them to other participants, please do! You can also recommend fics you’ve commented on in our discord server or in one of our weekly fic rec threads on our subreddit!
Good luck with your comments! Commenting can be intimidating, but don’t stress too much. Remember that authors live on comments, and as long as you’re saying something kind that reflects how much you enjoyed the fic, they’ll likely be thrilled.
Announcing Fanart Frenzy's first mini event! Our first theme is: Tropes!
Sick of spam comments and fake art scammers hassling your favorite fic writers? Join us in reinforcing the fandom gift economy and make some real art!
Can't draw? No problem! Any kind of art is welcome - moodboards, graphics, gifsets, podfic, playlists and mixtapes, dioramas, 3D modeling, baked goods, animation, zines, embroidery, tea blends, perfumes, and more, not just digital/traditional art! Check out our Art Type Spotlights for ideas, guides, and tutorials!
Not into art? Join us as a commenter!
Grab your prompt via our picker wheel here, find a fic in your (or any!) fandom that includes your assigned trope, and make some art!
Add your art into a comment on the fic using our comment guide, and post anywhere you normally would using our posting guidelines - please tag us or use the hashtag #fanart frenzy. You can also share your art on our subreddit, on our discord server, or add it to our AO3 Collection! Please follow our event rules and check out the FAQ for quick answers.
Replied to a recent comment on a fic that I wrote years ago and then took the time to revisit previous comments and I say this with complete sincerity:
Leaving a comment on a fic provides compounding delight. Authors will love initially receiving a comment, will love later recalling this and that particular aspect of a comment, and they will love rereading comments and being reminded how readers enjoyed the work.
Comments are not a one-time act of kindness and consideration. They keep giving.
Thank you to those who take the time to give a nice word, describe an excited reaction, point out favorite parts, and generally let it be known that not only has the work been read but it had some effect. :)
we're at the end! it's march! febuwhump will soon slowly fade into the abyss - but hark! what is that? oh, it's the things you can do now, or have now, that the event is over!
hall of fame
did you complete 28 prompt fills across february? yes? then you're a completionist! you do not need to prove this to anyone! you might've done them all in your journal for all i know, and that's fine!
anyone who completed is welcome to sign their name on the hall of fame form until march 3 - these names will be compiled into a single, public list. you can also share your masterpost link with me to share too
badges for your blog
want to show everyone how you did? then here are the badges! add them to your masterlist or share them on their own. you are a participant if you did not finish 28 things (by march 3 as our extended, deadline, or march 5 for our final deadline), and you are a completionist if you did!
comment marathon
we're not done just yet! across 7 and 8 march, the febuwhump community is hosting a comment marathon! we're encouraging everyone - even those who didn't take part this year - to go through the febuwhump ao3 collection (or the febuwhump2026 tag on tumblr) and comment on as many works as possible over the weekend!
far too many ao3 works have 0 comments, and we all know the importance of commenting to a writer's drive and sense of community. join in on the comment drive, keep a count of how many comments you leave, and add to the official count!
plus, want to do this in a community style with others? the discord server is open again, with a dedicated comment marathon channel.
the febuwhump wrap up survey
it is that time again! you all got an event, and my reward is sweet, sweet data. so if you spent any time at all with febuwhump this year, please fill out the survey! it helps guide the direction of future events and is super important to know whether this one was successful or not!
the hall of fame is now closed, but the collection remains open for late submissions! it will stay open until 6 march (likely around 10pm GMT) due to the downtime ao3 experienced.
last day to submit to the collection! will be closing it around 10pm GMT
but don't worry, febuwhump isn't over! got no plans for the weekend? now you do! we're commenting on as many works as possible to celebrate the creators that participated in febuwhump! keep a count of how many comments you made and then submit them at the end of the event to add to our total!
We are investigating reports of errors when trying to load AO3, including errors saying that AO3 is down, which seem to be related to the previous incident. We will update when we have more information!
AO3 is now fully down. After performing a software upgrade a few days ago, we've been unable to keep our server cluster healthy due to what we believe is a bug or issue with the new release of our database server software.
We're working with our vendor's support team to understand the cause and whether reverting or upgrading further will best resolve the issue without continuing the cycle of up and downtimes.
We do not currently have an estimated time for when we will be back up, but we expect it to be multiple hours at minimum. We apologize for the inconvenience and will update you when we know more.
Following guidance from our vendor, we've brought AO3 back online to help troubleshoot. We expect the site will go back down, although we don't know when that will happen.
If you choose to post or update your works while AO3 is up, we strongly recommend making sure you have a backup of any text you are attempting to post.
