MHA Rarepair Week 2026 Prompts

The event (aka the posting week) will run from July 20th to July 26th.

Rarest of the rare:

We brought back last year's challenge but this time we made it even harder: if you wish to challenge yourself on our free day and create for "rarest of the rare", find a pairing (or ot3+!!) with less than 10 works on AO3 (in English, with otp:true on). However, this is not required. For free day, you are allowed to create anything for any pairing as long as your work abides our rules :)

Rules:

SFW only event! This means that we only accept works that would be rated G or T on AO3.

Please tag your posts with #mhararepairweek2026 so we can reblog it!!

Feel free to use multiple prompts a day, just make sure to use at least one.

Accepted forms of art include but are not limited to: fanfiction, fanart, fan edits, amvs, web weavings, gifsets, playlists, moodboards etc.

AI use is NOT allowed.

For allowed pairings, please refer to this post.

Please tag your works properly to the best of your ability (tag content warning, only tag relevant pairings etc.)

No early works are allowed, please post your works on the day they're created for or after. Pre-creation, however, is allowed and encouraged; you can start creating right now if you wish to! We just ask that you wait with posting.

Ok I'm sorry I have another question already 😅 for day 6, hero vs villain, does that have to be a "hero/villain" relationship, or can hero vs villain just be the theme of that day? Like for example, someone choosing whether to be a hero or a villain?

nonsense, we're happy to answer!! the prompts are meant to inspire instead of tell you exactly what to write so however you interpret it, is fine with us!! what you described sounds like something that absolutely fits that prompt, that prompt category (intangible) was meant for themes and metaphors and such anyway ^^ like, anything about what it means to be a hero/villain fits that prompt, in my opinion

Probably a silly question but, I just wanna be sure - is it ok if we pack all these prompts into one multi-chapter fic? Like chapter 1 for day 1, chapter 2 for day 2, etc?

And if so, follow-up question: is it ok if day 1 does NOT happen in chapter 1 but instead happens with like, chapter 2 or 3? Ex. If I wanted to write a couple chapters before the event starts, but starting with Ch 3 or w/e my chapters aligned with the day-to-day prompts, would that still be ok?

I hope this makes sense lol let me know if not and I'll try to explain better! Also thanks for all you're doing bc I haven't written fic in forever and I'm so pumped for this event

so, basically we are fine with multichaps being posted for the event and we are fine with the different chapters being for different prompts. however we ask for a) new entries b) no early entries. so, if you posted chapters before rarepair week started, we couldn't accept that anymore, since it wouldn't be a new entry.

(my advice here is that you just smash those first three chapters together so the first chapter is for one of our prompt)

we also ask that in case, say, your 3rd chapter is for day 2's prompt while the 4th is for day 1's prompt, you submit it on day two with the 4th chapter being technically a late submission to abide by the no early works rule

I'm sorry because I was SURE someone had asked before but I can't find it! Is Ojiro/Hagakure aloud? I have also tried to do the otp:true thing but I can't find any result :c

hi!! we actually have been asked about ojitoru i just forgot to tag it as ojitoru 🤦 but anyway, yeah, we do accept that pairing for this event!! i just checked for you, as of rn they have 179 works with otp:true on :) we also list all disallowed pairings in our allowed pairings post

Is it considered Teen rate mentions of sex? Example: "he wants to stick his dick in you". Like there is nothing explicit BUT a character is not shy on talking about their sex life. I can bring them down a little bit I'd necessary :D

hi! crude language/sexual humor does fall under teen rating as long as it doesn't get explicit i would say. if you're unsure, for sexual scenes this is pretty much how i would rate:

general: like you would see in a children's show. maybe an implied sex joke that older audiences can chuckle at but would fly over a kid's head and that's probably it. kisses are fine, making out maybe not

teen and up: this is where making out goes as well as implied sexual content/sexual humor/fade to black

mature: mild sexual content. basically like a sex scene would be in a movie aka you can't actually see anything that would make it explicit but it still is sexual content

explicit: explicit sexual content. i don't think that needs to be explained.

so, if they talk about it a lot or like, get into details too much, that could fall under mature i think but then again, the line between t and m is not always clear in my opinion. teen and up is basically what pg 13 is--as long as you think your work is pg 13, i'd say you're fine ^^

Heya, I just asked about the 700 fic rule. I wanted to check how many fics are under natshig (just over 800) but that's without applying the otp:true function, and I know many of the fics also include / are centred around dabihawks.

I can't figure out how to apply the otp:true function, please may you let me know if natshig (Shigaraki Tomura / Todoroki Natsuo) is allowed?

hi!! natshig is allowed for this event ^^ they have less than a 300 fics on ao3 with otp: true on as of rn

You mentioned in a previous ask about 'under 700 fics' - is that how we're judging what is and isn't a rarepair?

yap!! our post about allowed pairings you can find here but basically, we accept ships (platonic or romantic!!) with less than 700 fics on ao3 with otp:true on. the post i linked also contains the disallowed pairings using this metric ^^

What do we do if the rarepair we want to write for doesn't have a canonized tag? Could we use it for the rarest of rare or even for the event itself if we can't even find a proper number of fics it has?

hi mod sony here! i actually plan to write for a ship that doesn't have a canonical tag on ao3 for rarest of the rare (unless it has gotten one since though i doubt it)!! which is to say, you absolutely can do that! 0 is less than 10 and it's certainly less than 700 after all :)

if you write the ship in the way it would be the canonical tag aka the surnames in alphabetical order (i.e. Kaminari Denki/Midoriya Izuku/Uraraka Ochako) hit enter then search and you get zero fics as a result then it is safe to assume the ship has zero fics! and that is most definitely accepted for this event. in fact you can't really get rarer than that

Hey, I wanted to know if there's a polyship that includes a popular ship within it, would that still count? (Ex. Todoiidadeku containing tododeku, but it also is a rair ship).

hi anon! the short answer is, yes, we do count those as rarepairs. the longer answer is:

"Apart from TodoBakuDeku, all poly ships count as rarepairs for this event. We do ask however, that if the poly ship you want to write includes a pairing that counts as popular and therefore not a rarepair, the focus isn't on them but instead the poly ship as a whole, or one of the other pairings from it that does count as a rarepair. For example, if you want to write SeroKiriKami, you're allowed to focus on the relation between any or all of the characters, if you want to write MomoKamiJirou, then you're allowed to focus on KamiMomo or the three of them as a whole and if you plan to write KiriBakuDeku, we ask that you focus on the relationship between all three of them." - from our FAQ
