You and Jungkook have been together for almost a year now, and the relationship was blossoming beautifully. He’s everything you could ever want and then more; he’s the charming, caring, patient, and respectful boyfriend you can ever ask for.
You thought it was serious enough to even bring him with you to spend the holidays with your family. They obviously adored him, even though he would get really anxious about impressing your parents (which is what he would tell you).
But since then, yours and Jungkook’s relationship has been really strained over the past couple of weeks; it seems like both of your fuses are too short to even be around each other. The arguments always start over something so minuscule, from leaving clothes on the floor to someone’s phone volume being too loud. Ending in both of you not talking for the rest of the night, even on your “better” nights together, you don’t even say a word to each other.
But it’s normal, right? Every couple goes through a rough patch together; hopefully this passes….
However, tonight isn’t that day; you were getting your bag ready for a trip that you had planned with your friends for the weekend. Since you’ve been spending the night at his place a lot lately, you’ve had a lot of clothes there. You’re pacing around looking for a pair of earrings that are your absolute favorites; you know they’re not in your place since you last wore them when you were with Jungkook. You’ve looked in the bathroom, living room, and bedroom and even walked around his entire house looking for them. And nothing… you are already pretty peeved at the fact that you couldn’t find them, and it just annoyed you a little bit more that he’s just sitting on his phone not helping you. As you dump out your bag on the bed for the 3rd time, he says, “I don’t understand why you’re so stressed over some earrings; you can always just buy a new pair."
“I don’t want to buy a new pair; I want those," you said in an annoyed tone.
He chuckles dryly and says under his breath, "Always in a fucking mood."
You immediately stop what you were doing and look up at him. “What did you say?”
“You heard me, y/n; it’s always something with you. Nothing is ever perfect for you; you always want it your way."
You just couldn’t control your emotions anymore; you fully went off on him. It immediately turned into a screaming match; you couldn’t even control what was coming out of your mouth. All you knew is that he’s matching your energy and tone so you’ll throw it back to him.
After words were thrown and you were left a teary-eyed mess, you decided you can’t stay here tonight. Grabbing your things and leaving, you continue to do some nasty things to him, and he’s just following behind, saying things too.
As soon as you reach the door is usually when he stops you from leaving, but he just slammed the door right behind you. Now you’re walking home in the dead of night alone. Gosh, when did you guys get like this?
Everything was fine until recently; Jungkook turned so distant and so reserved with his emotions lately. So you decided to text him as you’re walking home:
You: I’m sorry for what I said earlier; I’ll be leaving for my trip tomorrow. I’ll give you your space and time alone…. I’m truly, really sorry for the things I said, Kookie.
There was no reply after that; you know he saw it but took it as a sign that he really wants to be alone. So you respected his decision; obviously it wasn’t easy for you; you kept thinking about him throughout your entire trip. Hopefully time away from each other is for the better; you’ve both been at each other’s throats for no good reason. And you just miss him so much, hearing his voice, the way he laughs, this smile… literally everything about him.
Once you got back, you went straight to his place to bring him a little something that reminded you of him while you were gone. Texting him that you’re outside, he leaves you on seen for two very long minutes, but he eventually opens the door.
Something about him just feels different…. You’re so used to his adorable little smile that he does when he sees you, but this time he has no reaction. He just stares at you waiting to say something, and you’re just focusing on how cold his features look now.
“What do you want?" he says in a tone that has no emotion.
“I just wanted to bring you something that reminded me of you on my trip—"
“I can’t keep this up y/n," he interrupts abruptly.
You feel your body go stiff, and you start to feel a warmth flood your face, but you force out
“Keep…what up?”
"Us," he says shortly.
“What about us? You know damn well what he’s talking about, but you’re stalling for time so he can hopefully change his mind.
“This time away from you, I’ve realized I didn’t miss you at all…and I started to think about us… I just don’t think we should be together anymore." He says it as he’s avoiding eye contact with you.
You stand there frozen, not knowing what to say or what to do. Standing there with the gift that reminded you of him, and knowing that pair of earrings is still lost…
“You are a great person, y/n, but I just don’t see myself being with you anymore." He said emotionlessly as he closed the door.
You’re frozen for a moment; you just feel so hurt all of a sudden you forget to breathe. But after a minute you take a deep breath and turn around to walk. Almost running home because you don’t want to seem too crazy for crying in public but you can’t stop the tears from falling.
Why would he just break up with you? What did you do? What is the argument about the earrings? But didn’t he remember he got you those???
You haven’t seen Namjoon ever since that blow-out a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, he’s texted and called you apologizing, but you just don’t know…
Of course you’re still upset with what he said to you and how he was acting, so you should’ve blocked him since then. A younger, more immature version of you would’ve done so, but you can’t bring yourself to do so while also not having enough energy to text him back. So for the past couple of weeks you’ve been in this weird grey area where you read the messages but can’t bring yourself to say anything.
You think it’s because you like him still. You know this is so pathetic, but you can’t make yourself believe that you never ever had feelings for him.
But you have to act like it didn’t hurt you, like when you scraped yourself when you were younger. Getting up and acting as if the pain isn’t there. So acting as if it was business as usual is what is going to make all of these feelings and emotions forget him; by going to work, hanging out with your friends, and posting how you usually do…
Namjoon has other plans… Even though he’s been texting you telling you how sorry he is, you can leave him on seen and mute his notifications. But when it comes to viewing your stories, he’s been, without fail, the first one to watch them, no matter the time of day. You’re not going to let him ruin your usual story spamming on Instagram; that’s something he’s not going to ruin for you.
Nevertheless, no matter how many times you’ll deny it outwardly, him viewing your story every time you upload gives you a sense of pleasure. Except it just makes you want to reach out to him more and more….
It’s just so hard not to miss him, especially when you see his face almost everywhere… From advertising to ads on TV, his stupidly handsome face haunts you, which only fuels your want to ignore him and anything that has to do with him… especially Taehyung and jungkook….
They haven’t really made it easy either. Compared to Namjoon, Taehyung and Jungkook are so much more persistent, and they definitely won’t stop texting you until you respond. Especially in the group chat…
Tae: I know you saw our messages about going out—it’ll be our treat, sweetheart.
Jk: Come on! It’s been forever since we last went out to a club!
Jk: I know we said Namjoon would be there, but I’ll protect you if you want. :>
Tae: Don’t make us drag you out of your apartment.
You: Alright, I’ll go, but only if I can bring my friend with me.
JK: Is she hot too?
Tae: Sounds like a great plan. I’ll put your name on the list. See you Friday night. Don’t even think about backing out now.
Setting your phone down on your nightstand, almost wanting to throw it as if it were on fire. A slight sense of dread comes over you…. Namjoon will 100% be there, and all your hard work of avoiding and creating distance will be for nothing, and all you can do is just ignore until then.
At least you’ll be bringing your friend, so she’ll hopefully keep your thoughts away from Joon enough to act like he’s not there….
The days go by too fast now; you try to distract yourself, but nothing is working. You are at work on Friday night getting ready to head back home and get ready, feeling so anxious like it's your first time ever meeting them. As you’re walking back to your place to get ready, you’re almost hoping that something crazy happens to you so you have a reason to bail, like you get run over by a car or something.
But at last you made it to your place in one piece, and you texted your friend that she can come over whenever to get ready.
You take off your shoes and go straight to the bathroom to shower, hoping that you can drag out getting ready so much that it’s too late to go out.
Either you got ready at a record time, or the time isn’t going by fast enough; you’re almost pacing in your apartment trying to find something to do while your friend finishes getting ready. She picks on you since she’s never seen you this nervous, especially about a guy.
“Come on, you guys stopped talking. So what if he’s there?” She laughs and rolls her eyes as she tries on one of your dresses.
“Exactly, that’s the problem. What IF he is there… I don’t know if I can see him again. At least not sober.” You look at her through the mirror as you walk in with the 4th round of your guys’ pre-club shots.
She rolls her eyes and grabs her shot. “You’re still worried about him even after the way he talked to you? I would’ve kicked his lame ass to the curb.”
You down your shot quickly and wince a little as the liquor burns going down your throat. “I feel like I still like him though…. But my pride is telling me no, but I can’t just—“
She claps her hands and laughs. “Okay, okay, I get it; don’t go on crying now. Let’s just see how the night takes us, and if it just so happens to take you straight into his arms, we won’t fight it.” She laughs as he grabs you and her clutch and ushers you to the front door. “Come on, hurry and put your shoes on; I already called the cab.”
She’s basically shoving you out of your own apartment; you almost stumble as you quickly put on your shoes as she’s hurrying you up. You both walk outside and get in the cab as it takes you to the club.
As you settle into the cab, staring out the window watching the city night pass by as you think. Feeling the alcohol settle in your system, a warm familiar feeling comes over you as you feel your body release its tension.
Next thing you know, you’re outside of the club with your friend, walking up to the bouncers, taking a deep breath to conceal how tipsy you actually are, and forcing a sweet smile.
“Hi, I’m on the list… y/n plus one,” you smile as you watch the bouncer scan through his list and then say something into his walkie-talkie.
He nods and tells you that someone is going to come to show you and your friend to the section. As soon as your friend heard the section, she playfully smirked and elbowed your arm.
Moments later a beautiful-looking woman opens the door and calls your name. You straighten up and walk towards her; she smiles as she holds the door open for you and your friend. She compliments you both as she leads you through the club to the section.
As you’re following her, you’re looking around for Taehyung and Jungkook. As you’re looking, someone wraps their arm around your shoulder and matches your step.
Without looking, you jerk them off and stop. As you turn to see who it was, you see Jungkook's mischievous smile as he acts hurt.
“Y/nnie~ you don’t see me for a while, and then you act like you don’t know me~ you’re breaking my poor little heart,” he laughs as he playfully pushes your shoulder.
You laugh as you link arms with him as he leads you to the section. You start following him as you reach back to grab your friend’s hand to make sure she doesn’t lose you in the crowd.
“This is my friend I told you about.” You raise the hand that’s holding hers to show him. You watch him as he glances over his shoulder and says hello as he continues to lead to the table.
Once you’ve approached the table, you can see Taehyung and a couple of other people you don’t know but you’re assuming are their friends. Lively as always, Taehyung is dancing and enjoying the atmosphere. Once he notices you, he immediately walks towards you with open arms and his charming smile.
“Y/nnie!~” Pulling you into a tight hug, you laugh as you let yourself be basically suffocated by Taehyung.
As Taehyung is talking, you glance behind him, and you see him; Namjoon is handsome as always, making direct eye contact with you. Oh my god, you’ve missed his eyes so much. The way he's staring at you, almost pleading to come say hi to him, all you do is politely smile at him as you quickly avert your attention back to Taehyung and Jungkook to introduce your friend.
You’re not drunk enough to talk to him yet, so when Taehyung offers you and your friends drinks, you immediately jump on the offer.
After the sixth round of drinks and shots, the rest of the night became a blur; you remember bits and pieces only. Like dancing with Taehyung, being outside with Jungkook for a bit to “sober up,” or being in the bathroom while your friend throws up, but the last thing you remembered is being really close to Namjoon’s face and seeing his beautiful tired smile and how you really wanted to kiss him; after that, it all went dark….
Come morning, stirring awake with the worst headache ever, you instinctively try to pull more blanket to your side of the bed. Usually your friend stays over when you both go out, and she’s such a blanket stealer, but this time it’s almost like she’s lying on top of the blanket. You crack open your eyes so you can shove her off the blanket when—
You see Namjoon lying next to you—
Your eyes widen, and you sit up so fast you forget about your hangover for a bit. Thank god he didn’t wake up, so you just stare at him for a bit; he’s so… calm when he’s sleeping, the way he breathes, the way his eyelashes flutter, his chest rising and falling… everything about him is just so UGH. How can you expect yourself to forget about him when he’s so handsome? Even when he’s asleep, he still takes your breath away…

When I saw that video of her and Taehyung on Jungkook’s story, I almost couldn’t believe my eyes. Since when and how long has she known them? And the way Taehyung grabbed her, I mean, I’ve never even thought about touching her like that…. And we’ve gone on multiple dates. I know I haven’t told her how I feel up front, but I thought she felt the same?
Why am I feeling jealous?
After rewatching for what felt like the millionth time, I decided to ask her directly… How can I come across as the least confrontational as possible?? So I sent her a screenshot of the video and just straight up asked.
Joon: So you’re close with Tae and Jungkook? Since when?
I know she’s probably home by this time, unless they went out somewhere else. But she’s told me before how she doesn’t like staying out late for too long and that too much socializing tires her out. The time between the message I sent and when she replied felt like an eternity, so I also texted Kookie and Tae with a simple "We need to talk after practice tomorrow."
When she finally replies, I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding.
You: I met them at the listening party, and we just hang out all together. Why is something wrong?
Joon: No, nothing is wrong. Are you going to bed soon? I haven’t seen you in person since the party, and I go see you right now? I know it’s late, but I just want to see you in person.

You: Sure, let’s meet near my place. Text me when you’re outside. :)
I basically run out of my apartment, stopping only to put on my shoes and jacket. Why am I in such a hurry? Is it because I’m jealous that she’s spent time with Tae and Jungkook? No, I just haven’t been able to spend any time with her lately…right?
As I’m walking up to her apartment, I text her, saying I’m nearby. And as I’m reaching the building, I recognize her figure standing outside; she waves at me sweetly as I walk up to her. I don’t even know what to say; at first I just want to take in the sight of her. Of course I’ve already seen her a lot of times before when we met up for dinner or dates, but this is the first time I’ve seen her without any makeup on at all.
The way her skin blushes faintly, her skin seems so perfect and soft…. And her lips, just bare and their natural color. I have to fight the urge to be as close as possible; I want to be able to see all of her beautiful subtle features.
Wrapping him around her as soon as I see her, “hi,” I huff out as I hug her tightly. The way she hugged me back made me want to melt down onto her.
“I missed you.” I smile as I look down at her.
She smiles softly and says, “Me too. Let’s walk around for a bit so we can catch up,” releasing me from her embrace as she interlocks her arm around mine.
A comfortable silence falls as we walk together aimlessly; I find myself constantly glancing at her, trying to remember every single detail of her face. All of a sudden the silence is interrupted by her phone buzzing. She pulls it out, and I see “taehyunnie 🐻” flash on her screen as she declines the call.
“So you guys are close, huh?” I say in a dry voice, with this weird feeling in my chest.
“Yeah, we usually hang out together with Jungkook too…” She trails off as she smiles at me, trying to reassure me.
“They should be busy with their own schedules too; if I don’t have time to spend as much time with you, they shouldn’t either.” Why am I saying this??
She shrugs as she continues walking beside me. “We see each other when we can, plus they like to ask me days in advance, and it’s almost always at night.”
I stop walking; something that simple set something within me off: “Is that why lately whenever I ask to see you, you’re busy?”
She stops and turns around to face me, with a face that proves what I just said is correct. “Yeah…”
The feeling of jealousy takes over me; I know I need to calm down before I say something I don’t mean. But she’s been spending time with them and not me? Does she not like me the way I thought she did?
I nod, trying to hide how bothered it makes me feel. I know I shouldn’t feel like this, but the fact that she’s spending time with them instead of me definitely makes me feel some type of way. But I feel sort of guilty because I know I’m no one to try to claim ownership over her time and who she spends it with, but selfishly I want to be that person who she chooses over people.
“So what, you do you like one of them?” It just burst out of my mouth. I had no time to even process what came out of my mouth when I saw her face; her beautiful smile turned into a confused expression.
“No… “We’re just friends; they actually have time to see me.” She covers her mouth as that last line slips out. “Wait, I didn’t mean it like that.”
The jealousy mixing with a new sense of pettiness within me is making it hard to control and think about what I say.
“Oh, and I don’t?” I scoff as I remove my arm from hers. “I’m sorry, I’m busy, and I have little to no control over my schedule, especially now since we’re promoting. But it sounds like I expected you to know anything about this type of lifestyle since you just work at an art gallery.”
“You know what? Since you’re having so much fun with them, you should just keep seeing them and forget about me while you’re at it.”
“Is it so wrong that I hang out with them?” She asked in a pointed tone.
“No, but all I’m saying is that I haven’t been able to spend time with you, and I miss you.”
“But you’re not entitled to my time, Namjoon.”
“Why not? You like me, don’t you? If you liked me, you’d want to spend time with me.” God, what am I saying?? This cannot be me; this is just coming out.
“You’re not entitled to anything of mine; we’re not official or anything.” Yeah, I like you, but I’m not going to put myself out there for a guy I don’t know if he even likes me,” she says with a hurt voice.
“So me taking you on these dates means nothing? I thought you were taking me seriously. I like you, but the fact that you’re spending a lot of time with Tae and Jungkook makes me feel some type of way. You’re a beautiful girl; I don’t like the thought of you spending time with other guys.”
“I can spend time with MY friends if I decide to do so, plus you’re worrying as if you’re my boyfriend when you’re not. “Don’t act like it,” she says, avoiding my gaze.
“You know what? I’ll stop caring about you; spend time with whoever you want; as a matter of fact, fuck them. I don’t fucking care what you—“ I blurt out.
As soon as I say that, I want to take it back immediately, cringing internally and wanting to crawl into a hole and hide. I look at her, and she looks so hurt….
“Look, I’m sorry—“
“If that’s how you really feel, you could’ve just texted me that before you came to see me. Have a good night, Namjoon. And I don’t want to see you again.” She interrupts me as she storms past me.
I want to chase after her and apologize, but I can’t; my feet are stuck on the ground. I feel so guilty about the fact that I responded in such a petty and pathetic manner; this isn’t me…..
I watch her walk away with blurred vision…. I want to cry. I’m so exhausted and upset, but it’s the fact that I took it out on her of all people. I feel like such an asshole…
After a couple days I’ve texted her apologizing day after day, but with no response. The times I’ve been able to see her are when Jungkook and Taehyung post that they’re hanging out with her. Even if I wanted to forget about her, I can’t… She was just so perfect. I want to be near her and make her laugh…
How can I even forget about her at this rate? Seeing her on stories on Instagram makes it so hard to. Even when I’m alone not looking at my phone, all I can do is close my eyes and imagine her with me. Even if she never wants to see me again, I can’t make myself forget about her no matter how hard I try. I feel like such an idiot for taking all those memories we had together for granted, even the good morning texts that she’ll send me.
I can’t continue on like this; if I can’t forget about her, I’ll bend over backwards for her. I just have to figure out a way to get back into her life…
And these past couple of days I can tell she told Taehyung and Jungkook about the argument because during dance practices I see them looking at him and whispering to each other. I’ve asked them about her, but they’ve been sworn to secrecy. I beg them to help me make it up to her. I told them I’m desperate, that I’ll do anything; I just want to be able to be near her, hear her laugh, see her smile….
After a few more weeks, Taehyung and Jungkook walk up to me after a dance practice with big smirks on their faces.
“What?” I say in a tired tone.
“We talked with our dear princess, and she agreed to go out with us tonight. And we mentioned how you’ll be there tonight too so you can try to apologize to her.” Jungkook says as he wraps his arm around my shoulder.
“And if you mess up, you owe us big time; you don’t even want to know the amount of convincing this took,” Taehyung hummed.
“And if you manage to mess up this time again, we can’t promise we’ll help you again. I’ll take her for myself this time,” Taehyung says in a tone that’s almost challenging.
“Whatever.” I laugh it off as I ruffle Jungkook’s hair and wave goodbye as I take my leave.
All of a sudden I got a burst of energy; I’ll apologize to her and even beg for her to accept my apology. Ever since I first met her, I knew I had to be with her, and this time away from her just proves to me how much I actually need her…. Especially with the thought of Taehyung wanting her to, I can’t mess up. I don’t want to see her with anyone else but myself, selfishly.
I’ll make it right…. Even if it’s to the detriment of my pride.

These past couple of weeks without being able to see him have been difficult for you, going from seeing him multiple times a week to now none. The only communication is the texting here and there, which is almost enough for you.
You try not to get in your own head, but your friends and his close friends are showing you otherwise, making it hard not to second-guess. Even though he never told you upfront that he liked you, you thought he did, but now you don’t really know how to feel. Were you two just friends after all? Are you being delusional???
Turning to your dear friend Alli for advice, you invited her over to your place with her and asked her what she thought about the situation. She didn’t give you the answer you hoped for; she understands that his schedule is very busy, but whose isn’t?
“He’ll text you more if he really wanted you; you shouldn’t have to question anything if he actually liked you.” she said in a dry tone as she lies in your bed.
“So what? What have all these dates been for then?” You groan while rubbing your face.
It’s not like you can tell her who he is; you trust her, but you don’t want to go around telling your friends you’re talking to him for the sake of keeping it low-key for the time being. Plus you’re not even official or anything, so there’s no point in getting your friends all nosy and probing you for information.
“I’m just saying… You usually wouldn’t stick around this long for a guy who’s barely texting you,” she says in a softer tone. “I can tell you really like him, but all I’m saying is that you should have your guard up a little bit more.”
You feel so guilty about not telling her about who this is, but would it even change things?
“What if his job is just really important to him? “Plus, you always tell me to let my guard down a little, so what if I’m doing it with this guy?” you ask.
Your friend scoffs, and she rolls her eyes. “More important than a beautiful and wonderful woman? All I’m saying is that it’ll hurt me to see you get hurt… Just don’t put all your eggs in one basket for just one guy.” She smiles as he huffs softly.
After your friend leaves, her words replay in your head. Are you looking too deep into things?
After your friend is long gone, you’re alone with your thoughts, spiraling as your own imagination hurts your feelings. Gosh, are you really that desperate? Just because someone starts to hang out doesn’t mean they’re interested…he was really touchy though—BUT he could just be like that with all his friends. Is this how it feels to get manic over a man?
Your thoughts are interrupted by the noise of your phone vibrating on your nightstand. Glancing at it, you see it’s a message from Namjoon saying,
Joon: Hey, I know we haven’t been able to see each other in person for a while, but I want to invite you to the listening party for the release of the album. Completely no pressure, but it’ll be really nice to see you after all this time apart :). It’s this Saturday at 10pm; let me know if you can so I can put you on a list.
You read his message twice, making sure you’re not just seeing things at this point; it feels like you’ve been thinking about him so much lately that you manifested him into texting you. Looking over your work schedule really quick, you are scheduled to work this Saturday…. But you’ll have enough time to come back home and get touched up and changed. You type back quickly:
You: I’ll be there; :) just send me the address, and see you then.
After getting the details, he gives you a small update about his day, how busy the comeback has kept him, photoshoots, promotions, etc. You are typically exhausted after a full-schedule day; you can only imagine how he’s feeling after a constant full schedule for the past couple weeks. Giving him some words of encouragement and reassurance, you start to feel embarrassed, though, over the way you were feeling over him not really communicating with you when he’s literally drowning in work.
Joon: Thank you; that means a lot. I can’t wait to see you this Saturday! Sweet dreams and sleep tight, pumpkin.
You text him good night back, but there’s no way you can sleep now, “pumpkin”?!?!? He literally had you giggling and kicking your feet for a good hour before you actually fell asleep.
On the days leading up to the listening party, you guys still kind of kept in touch, but since the comeback was approaching. It was basically back to business as usual when it came to texting him. You didn’t even know what to wear to the party, but he did mention to you how it’s mainly chill vibes to dress however you’re comfortable. But he also mentioned that for the first part of the party, there will be some media photographers taking pictures.
Before you left to work on Saturday, you made it a point to have your outfit picked out so by the time that you come back, you'll be ready to get ready. You don’t have to spend time stressing out about the outfit.
Settling on a cute dark outfit: dark jeans and a little black knitted sweater. You honestly don’t know what he means by chill vibes, but you’ll be dressed cutely at least.
The rest of the day Saturday seemed to go by quickly; maybe it was your nerves for the event, but you just couldn’t really be fully there. Once it came for you to clock out, your supervisor checked in on you, asking if you’re doing okay, because you seemed distracted your whole shift. You promised to them that you’re okay, you’re just nervous for something, and you’ll do better next time you come to work. They smile softly at you as you leave the gallery and wave at them as you walk out.
Once you’d arrived home, you quickly got changed and touched up your makeup; even though the vibes were chill, you were just so nervous.
Arriving at the Hybe building for the listing party, you give the bouncer your name, and someone leads you to the party. Entering the room, you immediately scan it to see if Namjoon is there, but you see him surrounded by a group of people as they chat. Noticing how his arm is over a girl's shoulder, you tense up a little and shake it off. He’s not with her… right?
Filtering towards the side of the room near a wall, you exchange pleasantries with people who come up to you. Exchanging glances and small smiles at Namjoon throughoutthe party, you don’t want to walk up to him when he’s with his friends. After being alone for a good bit, you hear a voice from the side saying
“I’ve never seen you at these parties before.”
You look to see who said that, and your eyes almost pop out of your head; there is absolutely no way… Taehyung and Jungkook. Jungkook giggles and nods as he agrees with Taehyung. “Where do you work?
“Yeah, it’s my first time at an event like this, and I work at X Gallery.”
They glance at each other and nod as Taehyung says
“Makes sense. I’m Taehyung, and this is Jungkook, but you probably already know who we are.” He smirks as he nudges your shoulder playfully.
Nodding and smiling in agreement. Obviously you know who they are; who doesn’t?!
Taehyung and Jungkook keep you near them throughout the night, saying it’s because you seem so sad by yourself and they want to make sure you have as good a time as they’re having tonight. Drinking and dancing with them throughout the night, they’re honestly so much fun to be around; it feels like you’re out with your friends. Eventually you all make your way to a table to have a seat and catch your breath; they notice how you keep glancing at Namjoon.
All you and Namjoon have said to each other is a simple "hi," but that same girl from earlier has been by his side almost all night. You don’t want to force your way into a conversation either, but who is that girl for real…
“You like our Namjoonie, huh?” Jungkook giggles as he asks playfully, elbowing your side.
You laugh nervously, trying to laugh it off; they obviously don’t know about you… meaning you’re not even important enough to mention to his friends….
“No I just noticed how that girl has been near him all night, who is she?” you ask, trying to seem as nonchalant as possible
“His girlfriend, probably,” Taehyung and Jungkook both smirk and chuckle as they eye each other.
Letting out a dry laugh, you feel your heart get tighter. “She’s really pretty.”
Taehyung scoffs playfully. “Yeah, she’s pretty, but I and Kookie have been partying with the most captivating girl here all night.”
You laugh and roll your eyes as you get up from your seat. They really do have a way to flatter a girl. “Oh wow, thanks, guys.” You say sarcastically. “But I really have to get going. I have things scheduled early tomorrow, and if I want to function, I at least have to get more than two hours of sleep.” You smile apologetically and wave at them.
Jungkook and Taehyung exchange looks knowingly as they nod in agreement about something. Taehyung softly grabbed him by the wrist and smiled as he said, “Before you leave, though, we should exchange information. We had so much fun with you tonight. It’s not often we meet people close to our age anymore. Everyone is either older or too young to hang out with us.”
You look at both of them almost in disbelief, like, are they really asking you to exchange information? All you can muster out is a simple "yeah, sure."
This time instead of exchanging Instagram, you guys exchange KakaoTalkinstead. As you leave the building, you get a notification saying that you’ve been added to a group chat.
Ever since the listening party, you’ve still been texting Namjoon whenever you can, but the last time he invited you out, you had to decline since you made plans with Taehyung and Jungkook. You know you should’ve cancelled on them, but they had asked you a week prior, and Namjoon asked you that day. And you haven’t really felt at ease with Namjoon since the party. What if he actually has a girlfriend??
Plus it’s hard to not hang out with Taehyung and Jungkook when it feels like you’re hanging with your friends. They’re so much fun to be around, inviting you out for food and drinks, to the gym, and even on runs with them.
But there was a kind of uncomfortable and unexpected conversation to be had with both of them. On a simple drunk game of truth or dare, admit you like someone, but it’s not them. They took it extremely well; you thought they were going to cut you off after all that. But now they’re a lot less on guard; it seems like they genuinely see you as a friend.
It’s not like you’re ghosting Namjoon; it’s just with work, family, and hanging out with Taehyung and Jungkook, you genuinely don’t have time sometimes, and you’re not on your phone as much waiting for a reply.
Tonight the group chat “🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️” had a message from Jungkook.
Kookie: Meet up tonight at 11pm at the usual spot for a run, and you can’t bail like last time, princess. We will find you and drag you out of bed. :3
Jungkook just has a way with words, you laugh to yourself as you wait for them at the usual spot near the Han River. You hear some familiar giggles as Taehyung grabs you from behind and picks you up.
“Look who actually came; we thought you hated us.” He spins you around as he laughs.
“Hey! Put me down! Plus not everyone is built to be an idol. Normal people can’t run for hours without breaking a sweat.” You laugh as you wiggle out of his arms. You glance and notice Jungkook recording and laughing at the whole interaction. You think nothing of it as Taehyung puts you down as you playfully scold him.
“Imagine if I was just some random girl, or worse, I could’ve hurt you.” You playfully throw a punch at him. At this point you hear Jungkook laugh harder as you turn your attention onto him. “What’s up with you?? I can be a killer if I wanted to.”
At this point they almost teased you to death as you waved them off in time to start the run. The workout goes as usual, with a normal amount of chatter and a good pace enough for you to keep up with them. After the run you’ve said your goodbyes and head back home to shower and go to bed.
After your shower and your multi-step nighttime routine, you plop down onto your bed as you grab your phone to scroll on social media one more time. Your eyes immediately fall on message notifications from Namjoon.
Joon sent an image.
Joon: So you’re close with Tae and Jungkook? Since when?
You feel like your heart dropped; of course you didn’t mention it to him if they haven’t. What do you reply with? Has he told them anything???
Unlocking your phone to immediately open the group chat with you, Tae, and Jungkook;
You: So how’s everyone’s night? :]
Of course you seem more guilty; you just want to find a hole and jump in it. They both read the message, and there’s no reply for a bit until…
Tae: It was going great actually…. But I might’ve gotten a message from Namjoon. Princess, do you and Namjoon know each other? …..
Well, since the cat is out of the bag
You: Yeah, we met some time ago now. He invited me to the listening party, actually…
Kookie: He’s asked me for how long we’ve known you, and I told him straight up we met you at the listening party.
Tae: Wait, so he invited you, and you were alone or with us for most of the night??? Why does he care who you’re hanging out with unless….
Tae: But either way, I don’t understand why he’s so bent out of shape about the video; it was a harmless little joke.
Kookie: He just texted me that I and Taehyung have to talk tomorrow before dance practice. :)))
You: Well guys, goodnight and sweet dreams. </3
Now that you know he’s texted them, you switch apps to reply to him. You feel nervous about opening the messages, but they’re just friends. It’s not like you’re using them to get closer to him or doing anything wrong. You hold your breath almost as you open Namjoon’s two messages from earlier….
You had called off for the entire week for a mental recharge, but here you are, Friday night at the art exhibit, working a last-minute shift even though Friday was supposed to be your off day, but your supervisor really needed the coverage.
You’re walking around, smiling at people, answering any questions as politely as you can in that customer service robotic tone that you’ve grown to embrace throughout the years of working.
And then, as you scan the room, you notice a tall figure walking in, and he catches your eye almost immediately.
And he seems so familiar; you’re having a hard time recognizing him, so you slowly try to move closer to him, but not obviously, while looking at the other patrons at the gallery.
And then, as soon as you recognize him, your heart rate immediately jumps. You instinctively gasp, but you cover your mouth so as not to make it so obvious that you recognize him; it’s Kim Namjoon. And you move back to the other side of the room where you were standing before stealing glances at him because you almost can’t believe it’s him. You also don’t want to ruin his experience at the gallery, so in honor of your professionalism, even though it kills your fangirl at heart.
You watch him as he observes every single piece with such intense curiosity that it’s almost interesting to look at how he’s basically studying every single piece as if trying to memorize it.
As you stare at him for a little bit too long to hear your supervisor talk to you through your walkie-talkie, asking you if we can go cover for someone’s break and that they’ll relieve you from your position shortly.
You want to say no mainly because the man you’ve fangirled over for years is right in front of you, and all you can do is observe him and watch him. It literally breaks your heart, but you begrudgingly agree to the request. As soon as they come into the gallery, you go to the front end of the gallery and greet patrons as they walk in.
And as you stand at the entrance, you curse at yourself because you don’t have your phone on you to text your friend about who you just saw.
A little bit of time passes, and you’re still at the front end greeting people as they walk in, and you see someone walk into your peripheral vision and stop, so you intently look over at them to see if they have any questions, and lo and behold, there he is standing in the flesh right in front of you. Just feet away
You know he’s talking to you, but you’re just so enamored by his handsome face and beautiful dimples, and you honestly didn’t pay attention to what he just said to you. You just smiled and nodded.
You quickly shake your head and ask, "I'm sorry, what was that that you say?"
He chuckles and flashes those dangerously charming dimples at you as he repeats himself.
“Do you have the time?”
You glance around, looking for the clock, saying with a painful smile, "Sorry, I don’t have my phone on me."
He chuckles again and shrugs, saying “it’s OK. I’ll just wait here for my driver with you.”
Internally, you’re doing flips, backflips, any type of flip because you’re just freaking out so much that he’s simply just standing by you trying to have small talk while he waits for his driver, and on the outside, you’re just trying to play cool.
After a couple of beats of silence, he asked, "How long have you been working in this line of work?"
You hum a little bit as he pretends to think about how long you have been working there. you damn well know exactly how long you’ve been working in the art exhibition space for, you as nonchalantly as possible.
“Oh, I’ve been working here for a couple of years. I started when I was in university, and I just loved it so much I couldn’t really leave.”
He nodded his head in amusement.
And says, "Oh, I would’ve thought you were still in university."
Chuckle and shake your head.
He is humming and looking around the exhibition, trying to find something else to see.
You both look at each other, interrupting each other and trying to speak at the same time.
You laugh, and you tell him, "No, you go first," as he tells you at the same time, "No, you go first," so it gets quiet again.
So you're trying to break the awkwardness/tension, and you ask him if he enjoyed the exhibition, and he flashes a really sweet smile and says, "Well, yeah, of course."
And you smile back at him, saying, “I’m glad he had a good time”? You smile back at him and sincerely say, "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
He clears his throat so he can clearly say what he’s going to say next, as you see a black car pull up to the front outside.
“You know it was really hard to pay attention to these works of art when you were standing right here distracting me.”
You almost didn’t catch it at first; you just simply hummed, and then you interrupted yourself, cocking your head a little bit to the side and saying, “Oh, really?” You instantly feel your face get flushed.
As he continues to say, “I would really like to get to know you more. I know you don’t have your phone on you, but is there any way that I can have your phone number or any type of social media?”
You almost instantly nod and try to rack your head quickly. You’re trying to remember your phone number, but your Instagram comes out first.
He pulls out his phone as he says your Instagram handle to him, quickly types it in, and right in front of you, requests to follow you as he puts his phone back in his pocket, smiles sweetly, and waves at you as he walks out.
but stops mid-step as he quickly looks back and asks you, “I didn’t quite get your name.”
And you quickly reply. Oh, my name is And he nods as he smiles, saying, "Well, my name is Namjoon. Text me when you’re off from work.”
As he walks away, you instantly thank whatever higher power came over you that one day to make your account private, because if your account were public, you would’ve had several posts dedicated to BTS that would swiftly be archived as soon as you got out of work, just because you didn’t want to weird him out.
You feel almost giddy, praying that time would move faster so you can grab your phone.
A couple of hours passed by, and you see his follow request there from an account that seems to be his personal account, accompanied by a message request from the same account.
Even though you don’t like to play that waiting game when it comes to texting, you have to put him on the back burner for now as you frantically text your friend as you walk home while also archiving a handful of posts.
You: LYNN, WAKE UP.
You: PLEASEE
You: YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHO I JUST SAW.
A couple of minutes go by, and your friend Lynn hasn’t replied, and you’ve already reached your apartment. Take off your shoes at the door as you walk straight to your room, flopping down onto your bed while you stare at the notification.
As you stare at the notification, your screen is interrupted by your dearest friend Lynn, calling you. You instantly press the green answer button and put it on speaker.
“Hello?!” Lynn says in a worried tone. “My phone was on do not disturb; are you okay?”
You interrupt her, “I saw THEE Kim Namjoon AND asked ME for my Instagram at the exhibit I was working tonight!” You say it so fast, the other line goes silent for a beat.
“Stop…. You’re lying,” you hear her say in an uncertain tone.
You giggle and kick your feet as you say, “On my soul, why would I lie about something like this?”
After talking and hyping you up about texting him for a while, she bids you goodnight and good luck. Leaving you alone with your thoughts and the DM you have yet to respond to. You promised your friend that you’ll reply because you started getting cold feet, fearing you’ll weird him out.
Accepting his follow request and requesting to follow him back, you go straight to accept the private message request as well. You open the message and see:
Joon: Hi, I hope you made it home alright :).
You giggle and kick your feet as you type.
You: Hi! I made it home alright; I hope you did too. :)
You feel so giddy after you press send, feeling like a teenager again. Setting down your phone on your nightstand, assuming him to be asleep by now. Getting up to shower and get ready for bed, stopping mid-step because you hear your phone buzz.
Glancing back and seeing a notification from Instagram, you say to yourself, There’s no way he replied that quickly. You shake your head, trying to convince yourself that he didn’t, as you continue to the bathroom.
After you’ve completed your whole nighttime routine, you get in bed and make yourself comfortable while grabbing your phone to put on some music to go to sleep to. Your eyes go immediately to the Instagram notification.
Joon: Yeah, I made it home a while ago. But I would love to get to know you better; texting isn’t really my style, though. Are you free sometime next week?
You feel your heartbeat suddenly speed up… There is absolutely no way; you started to believe that you fell asleep, and this is a dream. You type back:
You: Yeah, I’m free most of the week; it just depends on the time. What day are you thinking of?
Swiping out the message to doom scroll while you wait for his reply, noticing a story from Namjoon's account with a little green ring around it. You feel a little satisfied smile creep up on your face, with curiosity taking over you almost instantly as you click it. And you’re welcomed with the most scrumptious picture of him you’ve laid eyes on. As he replies—
Joon: My schedule is pretty hectic during the day :/. Are you comfortable with meeting during the nighttime?
You: Anytime during the night is fine; I just work Wednesday to Sunday nights next week. Just let me know when and where. :)
Joon: Let’s aim for Tuesday; we’ll figure out the details that morning, okay?
You giggle and kick your feet as you type. A simple sounds good to me.
The days leading up to Tuesday, you both kept in touch, getting to know each other, giving updates of what you were doing throughoutthe day, and getting to know each other. While also keeping up with his close friend’s story, where he posts simple pictures like selfies, food, memes, etc., his close friend’s story really showed you how much of a girl’s girl he is; he posts more frequently and freely, like he’s just showing his friends and family his day-to-day life, like you do.
BUT He wasn’t lying when he said texting wasn’t really his strong suit; if he had met you when we were a couple of years younger, you wouldn’t have stopped replying by Sunday. But he was always so apologetic about his lack of communication, saying he’s been really busy with his schedule. Which you don’t doubt, but goddamn, he’s lucky you’ve been running around from appointments and meetings.
Come Tuesday morning, he will let you know he won’t be able to text you as much, but to meet him at a park at night. He said you’ll both go from there, saying he’ll surprise you….
You’ve been uncharacteristically nervous getting ready, changing outfits five times already. Even though he said it’s chill vibes, no outfit you’ve picked out gave a chill vibe, though. You sigh as you check yourself out for the millionth time, settling on a simple jeans and oversized hoodie combo. Glancing at the time and realizing you’re cutting really close to being late, you quickly grab your bag and run out the door.
Arriving at the meetup spot, you glance around the dimly lit park looking for him while quickly texting him, “I’m here.” Exhaling as you put your phone back in your pocket and opting to stand underneath a light post for your own personal safety.
After a couple of minutes and a handful of people walking past, you stopped looking up at every single footstep you heard nearby. Hearing yet another set of footsteps walk towards you and stop directly in front of you—
“Y/n?” He says with a shyly sweet smile.
You look up, meeting his eyes and smiling while standing up straight.
“Hi!” "Oh god," you cringe to yourself, "eager much?"
He chuckles, “Sorry for making you wait; I got caught up in some work stuff. Don’t worry, I’ll make it up to you.”
You laugh and shake your head. “No, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it. I didn’t wait for that long.”
He smiles again, showing off his dimples. “I wasn’t asking you if I can make it up to you. I was telling you that I will.”
As soon as he said that, you felt your stomach doing backflips. And all you can do is stammer out a simple “Oh, okay.”
He offers you his elbow as he starts to lead you to walk around. “We still have some time to kill until the reservation, so let’s just walk.”
You come closer as you link arms with him and follow him as he leads you on a stroll in the park.
As you are walking throughout the park, it is a simple, effortless conversation. The nervousness that you had almost instantly melted away as he was asking you about your day and what you did, and as he told you what he did throughout the day.
The thing about him is that he makes everything feel so easy; he’s such a welcoming and genuinely kind person that talking to him feels so easy.
He tells you what he does for work—that he’s in the idol group—and you confess that you know his group, to which he replies, “I would assume so.” In a way that is anything but cocky
“Do you like our group?” He asked an interested Tone
You try to hide your smile a little bit and nod.
His eyes widen, and then he asks you, “Which one of us is your favorite?”
You were about to reply to him, and you stop as the gears start turning in your head. You don’t want to give him the satisfaction by admitting that he’s your favorite one, so you pretend like you’re thinking and say Jimin.
He chuckles and shrugs as you guys continue to walk to the reservation you mentioned earlier.
The conversation continues to flow as you get to know each other more as you arrive at this restaurant. Stopping at the front.
“We’re here,” he hums as he holds up the door for you. Walking in, you meet with a basically empty restaurant. He guides you to a table and helps you to your seat. He noticed you looking around the restaurant, as he mentioned.
“You were probably expecting the restaurants to be really busy since I had made a reservation, but I had asked them to stay open a little longer. So it’ll be just us two if you don’t mind.”
And it’s like he almost read your mind. You nod as you take your seat.
Overall, dinner was a success; he’s everything you expected and more. Being a really welcoming person in general makes the conversation flow effortlessly; you often find yourself feeling like you're talking to a close friend. Talking about anything from books, music, artworks, traveling, and even parts of your childhood. After fighting over who was paying the bill, even though you tried your best to pay before he did. Since he refused to let you pay, you offered to buy ice cream as dessert from the convenience store.
Making your way to the convenience store hand in hand this time, you don’t remember when you started holding hands, but you’re not going to question it. Walking in a comfortable silence, reaching the convenience store, you let go of his hand as you walk in and go straight to the ice cream.
Once you bought your ice cream that he still tried to fight you over paying for it, you walked back to the park where you first met up and sat on a bench talking and people-watching. He breaks the silence by saying in a sweet voice,
“When can I see you next?”
You hum, pretending to think playfully as if you didn’t already know your own schedule, and then say.
“I’m honestly free most of the time when not working; all you have to do is text me the day of to see if I didn’t plan anything else.” You smile at him.
He nods. “I’ll keep that in mind then. Let me get you a taxi; it’s getting late, and I don’t want you walking around alone at this time.”
You try to say that you’re fine walking alone, but he insists, saying that making sure you’ll make it back safely concerns him more. You laugh and roll your eyes as he pulls out his phone and requests a taxi for you.
The taxi comes, and it’s time to bid him farewell; he pulls you into a hug as he says goodbye and goodnight, AND to text him when you make it back home. You hug him back briefly as you nod, getting into the taxi and looking at him outside, waving as the driver pulls away.
Since that first initial date, you and Namjoon have kept seeing each other almost every week, as long as his schedule allows it. And honestly, at first you didn’t even know what to expect, but he far exceeded expectations. He’s a sweet, respectful, romantic, and emotionally intelligent person; every time you see him, you almost float home with how much on cloud nine he has you on. He’s brought you to his favorite bookstores and art exhibits, and once on a run with him (you’ll never do that again), but spending all that time with him has been so stress-free.
You’re surprised with how smoothly everything is going; even though he’s still a bad texter, you don’t mind for once. Plus, you think that his close friend's story keeps you updated enough on his day-to-day.
But on the last date, he mentioned how he won’t be able to see you as much because of his comeback coming soon. Even though at first this worried you, he promised you he’ll try to be better at texting and call you whenever you’re both available. Plus, up until very recently, you started making cameos of his close friends too, posting pictures he took of you secretly, your inside jokes, and selfies you’ve taken.

— Hobi lets you have full control over the itinerary of his free days; if you want to spend all day at home with him, that’s fine. As long as he’s with you, he’s happy.
♡ He has pulled you down on the ground with him while he’s dying of laughter (more than once).
♡ Whenever there are date nights, he makes sure to be home before you and pick out your outfit that will obviously match with his.
♡ He’s 110% supportive of your hobbies, buying you supplies for something you might like involving it.
♡ Jungkook is the type of boyfriend that loves to take candid pictures of you.
—Whenever you catch him, he giggles as he playfully tries to act like he wasn’t taking a picture of you.
♡ tries to bring him with you to as many schedules as you can.
— he believes that if he’s experiencing and seeing all these things, you should too.
♡ buys you trinkets and keychains whenever they remind him of you—you’ve gotten to the point where you’ve run out of places and bags to put them on.
♡ won't shut up about you to his members; whenever you accomplish something at work, everyone will hear about it.
♡ knows your schedule like it’s your own, and if something is different from the usual, he’ll check in, making sure you’re doing okay and asking if you need anything.
♡ As much as he loves your cooking, he is refusing to let you cook.
— You have to annoy him to even let you wash the dishes, because in his world you won’t even lift a finger.
♡ He’s really easy to tease, especially when it’s about you.
— turning into a flushed mess, cheeks and ears turning red as he tries to hide his smile
♡ Loves whenever you wear something that grabs attention because it satisfies him a lot.
—Everyone’s eyes can be on you, but yours will be on only him.
♡Whenever he’s on tour or on a schedule and you can’t sleep with him, he calls you every night before he sleeps just to hear your voice as he goes to sleep.

—It was just a matter of when you were ready to admit it yourself.
♡ After a couple of dates, Jun asked you to be his girlfriend as you walked hand in hand together in a park at night.

After a quiet and somewhat uncomfortable dinner, Seungcheol remained leaning against the kitchen counter with his phone in hand. You glanced at him out of the corner of your eye while you washed the dishes; at first you didn’t say anything, but you could tell by his face that something was wrong.
You remained silent about it, maybe he would feel like talking if you give him space. Then, the kitchen was clean and tidy, and you decided it was time to break the ice.
“Cheol, is everything okay?” you asked suddenly, “you’ve been looking at your phone with the same face for ten minutes.”
“What face?” he asked, oblivious to your question.
“That worried face.”
Seungcheol put his phone aside and lowered his gaze, his arms crossed with little or no intention of talking. You approached him to place your hand in his hair, and your fingers ran through a few strands. That wasn’t solving his problems but at least the tension in the air seemed to ease a little.
“Sorry,” he said quietly, “I didn’t mean to worry you…”
“I’m fine,” your calm words seemed to have an effect, and you could see his arms relaxing just a little, “but what about you?”
Seungcheol lifted his face, a little shy, giving a half-smile. “You'll laugh at me when I tell you.”
“Why do you think I’d laugh?” you took his face in both of your hands, thumbs gently caressing his warm cheeks, “you know I’d never hurt you on purpose.”
“I know, it’s just that…” he sighed, looking you straight in the eyes. His own looked a bit glassy, as if he’d been holding back the urge to cry for a while. Finally, he took a breath and gathered the courage to ask a question. “Y/n, do you think I should lose weight?”
“No,” you twisted your face, maybe a bit too much as Seungcheol chuckled softly, “you’re strong, healthy, and you look really good.”
“Thank you,” he murmured, “but I guess not everyone thinks the same…”
He glanced at his phone and then back at you. That’s when the pieces connected. You wrapped your arms around his torso in a comforting hug and he did the same, pulling you gently closer as he rested his chin on your shoulder.
Your hands traced small circles on his back as you stayed together, there wasn’t a single sound except for the TV in the background and a very faint sob. You stayed like that, in that heartfelt embrace, for a few minutes.
“Sorry, y/n,” he murmured, pulling away a little, wiping his tears with the back of his hand, “I must look like a fool for caring about something like this…”
“You’re not a fool, you’re just a person,” moving a little closer to him, you gave him a small kiss right at the corner of his eye, the gesture caught him by surprise and you could see the brightness return to his eyes, and the edge of his lips curve up a little. “And you don’t deserve to be sad about something like this.”
“At least you care about that…”
You scoffed, making a little joke. “They’re jealous, because they can’t be as fine as you are.”
Seungcheol stifled his laughter, covering his mouth with a hand, though it was too obvious how shy he felt at that moment. Maybe he’d never get used to your compliments, but he didn’t seem to mind them either.
“Besides,” you added, squeezing his cheeks lightly between your hands, his face looked too adorable not to, “we all love you just the way you are, your family, your friends… And me.”
You leaned in a little and gave him a small kiss on the forehead, standing on tiptoe to do it. He’d never say it out loud, but he really liked that little gesture, though his blushing face and eyes full of love spoke for themselves.
Seungcheol sighed deeply. “I don’t know what I’d do without you,” he took your hands in his, and left a kiss on your knuckles, “come on, let’s find some dessert and watch a movie.”
