People’s arguments against Leona being black lowkey reminds me of back when people would heavily debate and argue with their life that they’re was no way that Yoruichi from Bleach could be considered black. Or that Michiko from Michiko to Hatchin was not Afro-Brazilian. In fact now that I think about it people only seem to want to argue against someone not being a race due to not being human and etc when it comes to characters people see as black. And I noticed that almost entirely it’s when the black character is constantly considered attractive by the fandom that people debate if they have black ancestry which always got me rubbed the wrong way.

I found out your blog a couple of days ago and I’m honestly happy to see you also call out/see the mistreatment/bias against the POC-coded characters in TWST from the fandom compared to how some of the white-coded characters are stanned and excused for a lot of their actions.

I noticed when I got into TWST last idk November or December (I forgot when I got into it lol but I know it wasn’t long ago and that the 5th chapter with Vil was the current one) or whatever that a lot of people on Tumblr were inconsiderate of Jamil’s circumstances especially but would be overdramatic and overforgiving about the actions from the European/white-coded characters who basically had 1st world problems which tbh made me quickly distance myself from the fandom and really only engage on the level of reblogging fanworks and fanart on tumblr because it reminded me of how the Star Wars fandom would have people vilifying Finn/John Boyega but then woobifying and forgiving Kylo Ren for everything.

And as someone who is black it gets so uncomfortable to be in some fandoms because POC characters especially black characters tend to be demonized in fandoms but people will simp for non-POC characters who do things 10x worse. I don’t dislike Vil (though I haven’t caught up to ch 5 lol) but I know of some of the main things he did and I found it bizarre how some people on tumblr that criticized Leona’s actions in Ch 2 (while I don’t agree with some of his tactics the hypocrisy some people in the fandom give to him is really uncomfortable) were justifying Vil’s attempt to poison Neige like what 😐.

Anyways I am sorry for how long this is but I just wanna say I’m happy I found your blog because I used to think I was overreacting or possibly alone in noticing how hypocritical Leona was treated by people who stan Vil and how a lot of people in the fandom seem to not see anything wrong about that.

I still have no idea if this ask was ever sent to me, since I can only see this ask on desktop and not on the app (along with other random asks from deactivated accounts, which all appeared at the same time in my inbox just a week ago without any notification), but it seems relevant enough to be sent to me so I'll answer it.

Honestly have nothing else to add because you're pretty much spot on, though no one ever wants to have these conversations, and whenever I have brought it up there's a history in the fandom of getting attacked and told off for making people uncomfortable or getting angry at the 'inaccurate' understanding of their fave white character when the issues I've talked about precede anything to do with the characters and more on the environment of racial microaggressions (as well as overt forms) in fandom itself, not just in the twst fandom but all fandoms like you've mentioned. Or i've had anons insist its solely my duty to be the calm and collected educator and reserve all my emotional labour on issues of race for everyone else, or I'm too aggressive lol. I've always been vocal about the discomfort fans of colour experience in the fandom and the racism and bias in the fandom in general, but yeah.

No need to apologise for the long post! Whenever I get fans of colour telling me they've also felt really uncomfortable I never know what to say except I'm sorry, and you're not overreacting or overthinking it, you have a right to feel upset but we also have a right to a good fandom experience without constantly being uncomfortable. We all feel weird and upset having to scroll through the main tags seeing racially insensitive posts, and having to block 90% of the fandom until we're forced to be outcasted because there's nothing left. Or just the fact that Yana couldn't do anything differently but rely on the same racist and Islamophobic stereotypes around the Black African and Arab-coded characters.

1. You just woke up in a coffin trapped with this talking rat thing that swears he isn’t a tanuki. How do you actually react?

✦ Well that entirely depends on whether I’m aware of the fact I’m in a game or not. If I retain my knowledge of twst then I follow the game path (and accept that I have to live with the talking rat from now on). If this is all completely new to me then I would most likely go with the flow, I’d realise that something completely unnatural has happened and try to adapt to the situation. I’d also interrogate the talking rat thing and try to find out more information

2. Let’s pretend for a second that you’re not at the mercy of a magic mirror and incompetent bird dad, choose which dorm you would like to be a part of. Why, and do you think the mirror would agree?

✦ This is hard… I would choose to be part of Octavinelle, I mean… the visual design of the dorm rocks. Plus they do well in tests, so I could persuade my dormmates to tutor me. The mirror probably wouldn’t agree with me. I’ve taken a couple ‘What Twisted Wonderland dorm are you?’ type quizzes, and I usually get put in Heartslabyul. Maybe I should send someone a dorm sorting request and see what happens?

3. Going back to twst reality, where you don’t have magic and get sentenced to Ramshackle; what is your first thought upon seeing this safety hazard of a building? What’s the first thing you choose to fix there?

✦ My first thought is ‘no’. The first thing I choose to fix is the fact that I live there. Surely I can make a deal with Azul to have a spare room in Octavinelle. He can have Ramshackle in exchange. I know he wants that second location for the lounge

4. In an alternate reality where you don’t immediately get lumped together with Ace and Deuce, who in the school becomes your best friend(s)?

✦ Epel and Rook seem interesting to be around, I don’t know a ton about either of them, but going off of my general idea about the two, I could see myself hanging around them. Epel I’d probably befriend pretty quickly, Rook maybe not so much. Unless being from another world is enough to make up my lack of beauty or interesting qualities. Other characters I could potentially befriend would be Kalim, Jamil, Trey, and Idia

5. Which existing club would you give a shot? Any particular reason why?

✦ Board games club! You guys should’ve seen when I got Risk and nobody wanted to play with me because it was so long… in the board games club they’d have to join me, right? Also I just wanna vibe with Idia and Azul

6. Don’t be shy, we know there’s a certain someone who’s caught your eye! Who are they? How did you meet?

✦ … Jamil. I’d assume we meet through Kalim. I met Kalim, vibed with him and we started hanging out together, and then Jamil came to find Kalim for one reason or another, meeting me in the process or if we’re following the game plot, we’d meet when I was investigating the mysterious injuries surrounding magishift players

7. Which of the events was the most exciting for you?

✦ Ghost marriage. Sitting on the sidelines and watching everyone get slapped would be legendary, and all those outfits? Even better. Of course I’d feel bad for Idia, but that doesn’t really change how amusing the rest of the event would be

8. Ghosts: delightful dorm mates or unholy terrors?

✦ That entirely depends on their reaction to my 2 am singing, they might become nightmare fuel just to get me to shut up for a minute. Otherwise the ghosts are honorary dorm members, who have an obligation to listen to me, their dorm leader I’m officially the mc now

9. Choose a champion (no further context, just pick).

✦ Leona. As long as he’s actually awake/motivated to get up and do champion stuff, I think he’d be well suited… I say, having absolutely no idea what the context for this is. If this whole champion thing requires motivation however, I’d pick Jamil instead

10. Would you rather (a) film a movie with Vil, (b) play a round of magic shift with Leona, or © go gargoyle sighting with Malleus?

✦ Film a movie with Vil, the other options aren’t even up for debate

11. Thoughts on fairies?

✦ Cool as hell. Those are not things we have here and that is honestly a shame. I’m kinda interested in all the different types of fairies and what distinguishes them. Like is it just physical differences or do the different fae have special abilities of their own?

✦ Vil, I would rather not be poisoned by him for saying otherwise

✦ Break a rule with Riddle standing right in front of me. I’m looking forward to him trying to use off with your head on someone with no magic of course he could just beat the shit out of me, but that is a risk I am willing to take

✦ First of all, laugh at him. Then probably join him tbh, depends on who he’s stalking

15. Which homeland (that we know of) would you like to learn more about?

✦ Rat bastard who needs to stop eating overblot rocks. Or if he’s gonna eat them, at least wait until I’ve experimented on them to find out what they are and what they can do

17. If you had magic, what would be your unique magic?

✦ Now this is a hard one. I’d say… an ability that draws attention to or from someone. So the magic could make it so that everyone turns and pays attention to the target, or that everyone ignores them, making them essentially invisible. I don’t have a name for the magic right now because I only just came up with it

18. Favourite ship? 

✦ Marcela x Lilia. Not because I think it’s a good ship, but because if they did get together it would be so chaotic. It’s just for the memes

19. Favourite theory?

✦ Silver being twisted from the sword that kills Maleficent. I don’t know who first came up with the theory, but I’ve seen it mentioned multiple times by different people. I like it ‘cause it’d be an interesting narrative, and hint at a possibility of betrayal. A character twisted from a villain and another character twisted from what killed them, nice

20. The school year is coming to a close, how are you feeling? Any thoughts?

✦ Please tell me I can continue on as a second year. I’m feeling kinda annoyed that I can’t use magic, but seeing everyone overblot, I figure it might be for the best that I can’t

21. “Starlight, star bright, first star I see tonight; I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight.” What do you wish to see from the game in future stories?

✦ Potion shenanigans. Perhaps an event where a dodgy potion resulted in some body swapping or something? Or they pull an Emperor’s New Groove and turn someone into a llama. I think I prefer the llama idea. Please twst give me a llama event

Panic 🤷 I’m afraid of the dark and then there’s this talking creature beside me tryna convince me that he isn’t a tanuki. Bruh, he shouldn’t even be talking in the first place? Have you seen a real life animal talk to you in Japanese? I’d probably whack him a few times before he pulls out his fire magic on me.

I don’t really have a “want” to be in any dorm? But if I had to choose, I guess i’d want to be in Octavinelle? I’ve always loved the ocean. I’m not sure if the mirror would agree with me though. 

I haven’t done any quizzes for dorm sorting but since Raven mentioned it, I’m gonna try one out.

I’ve honestly lived in worse? I wouldn’t care as much really and would think myself privileged to even have a place to stay at. Do you know???? how expensive???? living is in general???

I probably wouldn’t sleep and just clean and fix everything I can the whole night. I clean everyday anyways so another one’s not gonna bother me as much? And though I’m no expert at fixing things, I’d try my best to figure out how. I’ve fixed a couple of doors and roofs in my life.

4. In an alternate reality where you don’t immediately get lumped together with Ace and Deuce, who in the school becomes your best friend(s)?

Probably still Ace and Deuce? I’m not a very social person, though a lot of people say otherwise.

Mountain Appreciation Club- just to spend time with Jade lol

None. I did like the one about Azul being fat before but it’s not really a theory anymore since it’s already been confirmed.

I dunno? All the overblotting wouldn’t be fun (especially for the people who are actually experiencing it) and tbh I don’t think I’d even last a whole school year long in twst. I’d enjoy the learning hands down. I’d wish I could go home to the province though.

Ah didn’t implied that situation with event in my last ask, but I saw your previous post on this theme and I thought maybe I could share with my own experience. I also think that the meaning behind the word relies on the context, but it maybe even better to try and avoid it if people around you are not comfortable with it. Where I’m from the word “exotic” was never used for degrading purposes, so when I came to the English side of the internet it really weirded me out tbh. And I still don’t fully understand how can someone derange it so much from the original meaning.

idk what to tell you 🤷‍♂️ i grew up with that being as such, whether i heard or seen it through a family member, a friend or just random people on the train to school. maybe we grew up differently and/or in different places.

words evolve in different places and can change because of it. does that automatically mean we derange it from its original meaning? not exactly. exotic means not native or strikingly unusual. not a weird set of meanings to most but does that mean it should always be used in a positive light? the usage of words is a tricky thing 🤔 you never know how anyone can take it in the end. it's really just some sort of lingo that can only be understood to a certain type of people.

it's not as if i said that disney had meant for it to be offensive 😅 i only stated that it's not something i see be taken as anything but an insult. i cant change how people see it though and i won't judge them for it, i'll only speak my mind.

also since i'm here, lemme tell you all how kalim came home instead of event ace-

that's right. i have both scarabia ssrs right now.

hello hello ! tis i sorian 😊

i've come here to announce that i'm going on a long long hiatus, maybe won't even come back but who knows what happens in the future.

it's not as if i'm quitting writing for this fandom (believe me, im still on my twst craze) but more so that i'm focusing on other things right now and that the tumblr community, though you've all been generally nice, isn't some place i want to be right now (especially with the countless drama that has been going on through the months). i love writing for twst and i'll probably continue writing for it but since i've started doing this writeblr thing, i've been pressuring myself a lot to do better with my content. sometimes, that's a good thing. but with my health deteriorating both mentally and physically, i've decided to leave this platform for a long while to get myself better and do things that don't make me stress myself out.

The sea, oddly enough, reminds you of Malleus.

When first arriving at the resort, the familiar lonely hum of the rushing of waves takes you aback. It almost fooled you into thinking that he was right here beside you, gently whispering into your ear. Though you knew it couldn't be true because the third years weren't meant to come until later tomorrow, your face visibly flushes at the thought of it, leading to your friends asking you if you were feeling alright. You came up with an excuse (telling them that the sun was getting to you a little) and ended up being brought back to your room to rest, missing almost all of today's beach training activities. 

You didn't really mind missing a few of the day's training events. Malleus wasn't going to be there anyways and, though you wanted to spend time with the rest of your friends, the sadness you felt with his absence ached your heart too much to be able to even breathe comfortably. So when Kalim came by and invited you down for dinner, you politely declined and plopped yourself back onto the bed. You raised a hand into the air and continuously curved them into your hand and back out again to examine how your fingers folded. The sound of the sea, though faint against the walls of your room, lulls you with its gushing until you fall into a deep sleep. 

Plunged within your consciousness, lights dance, flicker and jingle along with the water's whimsical song. A sweet gentle caress of pitch, like the deep rumble of Malleus' laughter. You found comfort in the rhythmic drumming and nestled yourself into the warmth it brought to your chest. If only he were actually here, then all could finally be well. If only… You could listen to his voice again. You could almost imagine him saying your name, in the way that he does with the gentle curve of his lips and the softness of his gaze. If you focused on it hard enough, you could even hear it. 

"Y/N?"

He whispered delicately as if afraid to wake you. You could see him bring the back of his finger to your cheek then slowly gliding it across the arc of your chin. After that he brought his face to yours and murmured "Sweet dreams," before pressing his lips against your forehead.

The kiss, you thought, felt too tender— too real to be a dream. So you decided to humor your imagination by reaching out a hand to his retreating form and touching his arm. "Malleus?" you groggily mumbled out.

He turns back to you, evidently surprised to see you awake. You smile inwardly at how well your mind painted his expression. You would’ve reached out and traced every little detail but found yourself affected by your usual morning languor. A bit too much real, this dream. “Y/N…” he takes a seat at the edge of your bed then takes your hand into his. While slowly stroking your open palm with his thumb, he says, “It’s early, you need to get more sleep.”

You chuckle softly at his concern. “Mhmn, you shouldn’t have came over to visit me then,”

He averts his gaze, his pointed ears flushed red from embarrassment. “I was worried,” he says, “Silver informed us that you weren’t feeling well so I rushed over to check to see if you were alright.”

Your eyes widened at his words. Carefully, you pulled your hand away from his then slapped your fingers onto Malleus’ cheeks. “You mean you’re actually here?!” you exclaimed into his face. Dumbfounded, he nods as you poke and prod his body to confirm his corporeality. 

“I can’t believe it.” you whispered under your breath, pulling yourself away to stare at him fully. The relief that washes over you makes you choke out a sob. You wanted to throw your arms around him and cry into his chest but a thought passes through your mind that leaves you burning with anger and mortification.

Like rolling billows in a thunderstorm, you raged. 

“Wait, what the hell are you doing in my room?!”

hello hello ! i really really hate this piece. i had the flow planned for it and everything but couldn’t figure out how to flesh it out. honestly wanted to discontinue writing it but my dear friend, mari decided to give me the encouragement i needed to finish this (hecking gave me a cake in minecraft to celebrate my late birthday). may not be the best of my works but i’m glad i powered through it o(〃＾▽＾〃)o hopefully y’all enjoyed it because i have never disliked anything more than this in my life.
