Smangus is a remote Atayal (one of the indigenous peoples of Taiwan) village at Hsinchu County. It is famous for its ancient cypress trees.

The village is consist of a few families and they manage their life With communalism. The system of communal management distribute their fortune and welfare fairly.

Smangus used to be cut off from the outside world so that they could not get the sufficient resource to develops their village, including the education. The children needed to spent 5-6 hours to commute to school.

The area didn’t have electricity until 1979, and the only road to the outside world wasn’t even completed until 1995.

The famous spot is giant trees area. Very spectacular!

'We are just passing by'

Since the gang leader, White Wolf, announced his demonstration on April 1 is just a ‘passing by’, the people decided to pass by some Legislators’ office to show their anger.

These people are disappointed with some Legislators listed as ‘following President Ma’ instead of listening to the citizens. It showed that the representative democracy has failed and it pushed people to depose these Legislators.

Kenting Spring Scream Festival!

Due to the work I went to Kenting for Spring Scream Festival. It is a big music event held in the south of Taiwan, Kenting. And it is also a battle field among lots of beer companies.

Kenting is famous for its beach and sunny weather. Surely you can enjoy delicious Taiwanese food there as well!

It is the worst night I have experienced. This is the 7th day of this Sunflower Student Movement, which is to protest for unclear and unfair Cross-Strait Agreement on Trade in Services. Tonight, they occupied the Executive Yuan to show their anger at President Ma's worthless speech. But, as you see, police men beat the students who has no weapon. Shame. 

When dictatorship becomes a fact, revolution is a duty.

This is a non-violent occupation of the Legislative Yuan (Parliament) by students who are NOT affiliated with any political party. The only violence thus far came when police tried to violently enter the main chamber of the Legislature.

In the past 3 days, there were over thirty thousands of people occupying Legislative Yuan. Most of them are college students, and they are protesting against the injustice passing of cross strate agreement. Goverment ignored the value of democracy, we are here to wake them up.

The students organized themselves with discipline. Some evil press called them mobs. Instead, I saw peace and rational behavior in this place.  They didn’t hit or push the police. In fact, they wrote notes, sent flowers and gave a smile to them. They believed that it’s not the police that shoud be blamed but the government.

As for me, it’s worth skipping four classes of mine to participate in this activity. I listened to the scholars, students, and people from everywhere who sharing their thoughts. I was also thinking about all these, why I am here, and what I am doing now. It’s the first time I realized I can do something for this society. Not just in words, but in real move.
