Couldn’t sleep, huh?
I come bearing a song recommendation! The song “Be careful what you wish for (the doctor said to)” by Jack Harris gives me really strong Vivi vibes. Idk how right I am but I’m sharing anyway. It’s mostly with the line “took your peace your pain your pleasure and I left you with one face forever” which reminded me a lot of Elysium.

for those who dont know, vivian's family has a history of addiction. her dad, martin, battled an addiction to a drink called ataraxia. whether he won or lost the battle, we'll never know, because he got a divorce and left them when vivian was twelve, thinking it was better that way. viv hasnt seen or heard from him since.
the reason it doesnt work for viv is that the song talks about the drugs removing all feelings. elysium doesnt numb; it does the opposite— it simulates intense pleasure. she doesnt use it to numb the negative emotions, but to pile on so many more feelings that she forgets about the bad ones for a while.
but ataraxia, martin's drug, is a numbing agent. its point is that it strips you of all emotions and puts you in this calm, detached state. it's usually only used clinically, like to relieve really bad ptsd survivors when nothing else works. in that case, "took your peace, your pain, your pleasure / left you with one face forever" is PERFECT for martin.

the elysium gang is set in the modern world, so they've got real socials!
vivian is a born tumblr girl and speaks fluent tumblr humor. she's a semi-famous freelance artist and gets most of her traffic from her tumblr. when she was just getting started online (~13-15), she was on deviantart a bit, but doesnt use it anymore. she also uses insta, and has a tiktok but doesnt post, just doomscrolls on it loL. (she also has an actual tumblr blog on here @pigeonviv)
bellamy is instagram primarily, tumblr second. insta for her irl life, posting about her friends and family, and tumblr for talking about her writing and participating in the newsies fandom. she's not super online, though. (i havent actually finished setting it up yet, but she will have her own tumblr, too, @bellamy-gray-writes! secret early access hehe)
alden uses reddit, if you count that as a social? he doesnt really like or use social media much at all outside of reddit for sharing and IDing plants and animals loL
skye was built for tiktok. she follows all the trends and big-name creators, posts hilarious skits, accidentally goes viral every now and then. she also has an instagram but forgets it exists sometimes. she posts when the whim strikes her, which is constantly, and she films a lot of silly stuff with her little brother max :)
OH and i think might be important to note that rhea is canonically an influencer! instagram is her main but she's probably also on every other well-known platform under the sun

ooh this is a fun question!
jade for sure would be a huge gamer boy if their world had electronics, and he'd love any kind of rpg or action-adventure game. things like zelda, skyrim, final fantasy VII. he'd also love minecraft in survival mode (but not hardcore— he talks big but he'd chicken out at the idea of losing all his hard work loL)
naturally, this means sapphire would also be a gamer, because anything jade does she does too. she'd prefer fun competitive pvp games (and then get upset when she loses). im thinking mario kart, splatoon, bed wars, call of duty, league of legends, anything in that realm. doesnt need to have any story to please her so long as she gets to compete
the jainp kiddos arent technically ocs :( but that's hard for me to wrap my head around so ill pretend they are for the sake of this question, especially since my one canon gamer is from jainp :) eugene is a big-name ex minecraft YouTuber in my au! he ran the fsmp, but shut it down and quit right before the story opens because he wanted to be something more than a gamer boy for rapunzel loL. and then var is also a minecrafter, primarily using it as a work medium to create crazy redstone builds
and then vivian just gives such strong gamer vibes to me. she's not hardcore, so i guess this doesnt really apply to your question, but i can and will force her into any given topic she's my other one who gives me a strong sense that she plays much at all. her choices include among us, animal crossing, roblox, cooking games, mostly low-key things like that. she goes through phases where she'll get sucked into them, play and stream for two weeks straight, forget about them, then rediscover them a few months later
finally, honorable mention skye, who LOVES just dance and uses it as workout warmups

Hey there, me again, sorry if this is too lengthy or annoying of question, but it is something I'm curious about:I was looking through your posts, and its cool to see you're a big fan of tangled. While I wouldn't call myself a massive fan of it, I am very much a casual enjoyer of it, I especially empathize with Varian (The best boi). On that note, I heard a while back that there was originally a spinoff planned featuring Varian as he journeyed to other kingdoms that never got greenlit, and I was wondering if you had any thoughts or ideas for it. you're thinking of varian and the seven kingdoms! Vat7k was a concept idea that two storyboarders (anna lencioni and Kay hayes) who worked on tts came up with and proposed as a spinoff comic. Common fandomwide misconceptions that I think are important to correct include: that it was intended to be a full animated show (it wasn't); and that it was a "rejected" or "cancelled" spinoff (it never even made it past the "hey what do you think of my idea" stage because Disney didn't want a story set in the tangled universe that didn't center on rapunzel)

I used to kinda like it, but as my opinions have developed I’ve grown less and less fond of vat7k for multiple reasons. The biggest reason is that the entire fandom exists almost solely for varigo, which not only goes against what I believe, but is also just a terrible ship even if I did support Igbt?? Like, the relationship is insanely toxic and controlling, and to even make it work you have to twist varian so far out of character that he's barely even varian anymore. There is no way in the seven kingdoms that that kid would so easily forgive, much less like, someone who lied, cheated, blatantly used him, betrayed him, and left him for dead given his history and trauma with that kind of behavior. Look at the way the dude reacted when rapunzel broke a simple promise to him! He went on a whole freaking villain arc and it wasn't even her fault! If vat7k stayed true to who varian is, Hugo should be an incredibly triggering person for him, not his love interest. I cannot believe that so many people don't see an issue with their dynamic. as someone who has been trapped in a toxic, manipulative friendship like that and is still recovering from the damage, it makes me a bit uncomfortable that no one even acknowledges how unhealthy they are. Everyone acts like it's the greatest ship to ever exist just because they have entertaining trash-talk banter. And the fandom itself is fairly toxic and aggressive, especially if you don’t ship varigo, so l just really don't like the atmosphere as a whole, sorry ^^’
but all that ranted, I do love nuru. She's right up my alley and I wish i could enjoy her separate from the rest of vat7k. If the fandom were more balanced and not so unanimously obsessed with varigo, I might've stuck around longer just to draw her a couple times. Love her star theme, love her outfits and all the redesigns I see people do, love the bits of story we got about her, 10/10 no notes. All the character designs in general are good, and since I have a particular love for character designs, I appreciate that. I just hate that the central theme and focus of the spinoff for my favorite character of all time is on putting him in a very toxic and ooc relationship and presenting as if it's a good thing :')

today i went oc shopping with a friend!! if you have not done this i highly recommend you grab a friend and go do it cause it was a blast and a great way to spend the day. we literally just went to target and walked around for two hours and pointed at things and went "oh theyd like this shirt" "this oc needs ten of these" "my oc can have this trinket, as a treat" "who do you think would wear this" it was like normal window shopping except fun because you were doing it for your ocs
