Intro post

realized I never actually made one of these so here we go.

Hi! You guys can call me Jellie, or Sour, or really almost any shortening of SourJelly. I use mainly she/her, but they/them is also fine! I am a MINOR so please be somewhat normal.

My current world I’m making is called Efrien! The main inhabitants are Friebrin, who resemble demons. My main character, Robin, is a human engineer that invents a portal to Efrien. She falls in and loses her arm in the following explosion. Mishaps occur, several people die, and then some of them live happily ever after. I may get around to posting some art of them but maybe not.

So currently I answer to my full first name (which I usually introduce myself with) as well as two nicknames/diminutives plus my last name when people mistake it for a first name. There are two or three other nicknames I've also gone by in the past. I'm perfectly fine with this, or neutral at minimum-- I have a common name and have had to be flexible with how I'm distinguished for my whole life. I also don't feel a deep and fundamental connection of my name with my identity, though I think going by another name entirely would confuse me.

A number of friends have been appalled at me being called names I don't say are my name. Which is really weird to me, although I'd go to battle for anyone else who was getting either deadnamed or called something they didn't want. But this perspective seems surprisingly common!

How do you feel about being called something other than the name you introduce yourself with?

I think it's fun if people give me (non-derogatory) nicknames or shorten my name

I don't care if people call me something else and will answer to it

I'm mildly uncomfortable or annoyed but won't make an issue of it

I HATE being called something else and will always correct people

a book series I think more people should know about and appreciate is the ascendance series by Jennifer a nielsen. It’s very cool the first book includes

an incredibly snarky and clever protagonist who will never bore you and also never tell you the whole truth

a very intriguing very morally gray antagonist who genuinely believes he’s doing what’s necessary and right

a complicated and nearly impossible deadly goal involving high treason and death if caught

very interesting dynamic evolution between three boys who might’ve been friends but are instead forced to view each other as threats because there can only be one winner, one survivor

super cool plot twists done well

and then the rest of the series is equally high quality— even the last two books, which were added on years later (rest in peace ascendance trilogy). none of them disappoint in the quick-witted protagonist or the high stakes satisfying plot twist categories, Jennifer a Nielsen is a mastermind

I have been loving every comic I see of Grace going Teacher Mode. Because they always involve him running on two hours of sleep and having to deal with idiots. So he snaps at government officials or Stratt or someone else and everyone’s like “damn didn’t know he had a backbone” and Grace is sitting there silently like “oh god I’m gonna be so fired oh god why did I do that”
