all gripes considered i think evil roy seeping poison in sam's ears fight club style is the funniest thing corrie has done all year and it's not even intentional

reached the terminal stage of the fixation where the source media has disappointed me too many times (tho those danielle scenes were absolutely perfect. no notes) and my brains scrambling for the most insane threads to keep me attached (lesbifying todd grimshaw in my head)

i'm sure if not the ironic falling from his own scaffolding there'll have been some contrapasso thematic death given to theo but let's think about the fact that after all the training all the digs about his health todd was able to outrun theo in the end

honestly it's the fact that in all of these built up intense dramatic showdowns the only moment that took me by surprise and made me yell was jodie sparking ar sarah lou clean out

i am not immune to propaganda. i was not at all excited for the whodunnit. i've been the cynic i've been ranting about the pacing issues in trying to force all of these storylines to intertwine at once AND ALL ITV HAD TO DO was click their fingers and make me wait until 8:30 instead of 7am and i'm pavlov'd. i'm weak i'm buzzing i'm eating fan theories like a packet of space raiders. i'll see you guys at 9

in the back of my mind todd still wonders if he did actually change or if he was just managing to trick all of his loved ones into liking him again considering how 'easy' to was to slip back into angry defensiveness [both physically and verbally]. or at least thats how i write him when im writing my fic.

obviously easy is in air quotes because he was literally and metaphorically backed into a corner for all of those times

so i present an edit about that to noah kahans 'dashboard' [also ikkk the spelling mistake but its okay]

i've really struggled to find the words to articulate this properly and sensitively, and thus i'd really love to hear others' thoughts on this

but i'm really hoping the discussion with danielle addresses, or at least paves the way to addressing a fear i've had with the recent direction of the story - that being the understating of the psychological abuse/ritual humiliation aspects. obviously recently it's been very much centred on theo's physical violence, and justifiably so!! it's utterly harrowing, despicable, and it was that final outburst that made the abuse visual and signalled it to the others, and i'd like to think that the reason the other elements haven't been brought to the surface as much yet is because todd himself is keeping those parts caged through shame - not because he has anything to be ashamed of, but because that's exactly how this sort of unseen manipulation and treatment ravages you

and it's not that the story has signalled at all that it would forget these components - that poignant moment with george expressing that they all picked up on theo's coercive control without any inclination that it was physical ("no one said he was battering you") makes that very clear - i think i'm possibly just getting apprehensive about the direction they're taking this given the whodunnit plot and the tendency for sensationalism currently?

for me personally the psychological warfare, the control of diet, socialization, behaviour, sticks out to me as particularly well done in this storyline, it resonates, and i'd just hate to see it go unaddressed both for the messaging and due diligence given to survivors, and for the character. todd was never particularly handy in a physical fight, but what he had was his wit, his self assurance - and all of that was stripped away in horrific measures before us

and it's the dealing with the perhaps more ambiguous - the enforced lifestyle changes, the internalised degradation, the personal attacks masked as humour - that i'd personally like to see. both as a fan of the character, and as someone healing

number 11 tomorrow. number 11 at 7am guys. you don't understand how much i've missed eileen's tacky live laugh love magical wonder emporium i can't even brace myself for the misery when i'm gonna see the gang back together in the home that houses the hundreds

this is a thought from a much larger draft but in a sea of people calling todd's personality degrading so drastically unrealistic i'm throwing this out there:

when you contextualise this storyline within his 'redemption arc' his behaviours make so much sense. working at the undertakers and his friendship with paul really were the making of him but from his first attempt to make amends with billy right up until as late as paul's memorial he has been under constant scrutiny, whether he was being a dickhead or genuinely trying to do the right thing for once. which to be honest it was usually the former for a while 😭 but even as the scales tipped, people's preconceptions of him didn't really change. he'd try to reroute his ways but it was always challenged or mistrusted - billy, sean, eileen, even george and sarah at times all assumed the worst in him (gemma forgave billy but STILL never made things right with todd after basically calling him a slapper EVEN THOUGH HE REJECTED BILLY'S ADVANCES (sorry this haunts me he was kicked out of his late friend's memorial and for what))

WHY AM I BRINGING ALL THIS UP well it's one thing how you react to being mistreated when you're on self-preservation mode and only looking out for number one, and it's another when you're actively reconfiguring the way you navigate your relationships with people and trying to be a better person.

when theo makes these attacks on his character, it's probably not just a lone voice he hears, not just theo whose judgement he doesn't even entirely trust. it's an echo of the past, echoes of these trusted figures he KNOWS to be good people and people he's knowingly hurt or let down - theo just reinforces this, only with him it's not out of hurt or encouraging him to be better but using it to instil doubt and break him down entirely. and i could be chatting out my arse reading too deeply into things but what makes me feel like this is a real insecurity for todd is his desperate appeal to george (and theo) that he's not a bad person. reasoning with billy with their shared history "you know what i'm like, i'm selfish, inconsiderate". HELL eileen literally said once, with chest, she wishes he'd never been born and you're telling me he hasn't internalised that?

i think because he's been so vulnerable with theo (this is his first long-term relationship since billy!!) it's the first time he's had to confront all of this with someone he couldn't keep at a relative distance or deflect anything too real or too personal with humour - and when said person is actively weaponising his insecurities, making him believe he deserves everything he gets, knowing how desperate he was for connection.. yeah it is no wonder to me that he's so broken, because even before theo he was trying and trying and, in his own words, "always failing".

I PREDICTED AS MUCH but im so glad the violence was left off-screen. equally if not more impactful - the way they switched to the frantic almost predatory handheld camera putting us in the thick of it 👏 and the reveal. from behind closed doors to out in the open at last

sarah lou. meine perle. my diamond. u have broken my heart for the millionth time. she KNEW. and the fact that her apartment began as a safe space for those two to explore their relationship and now it's become where todd takes refuge in again. after all their struggle and all they've been through that woman is his home

genuinely everyone has played such a blinder, tina harriet tony amy mikey, so many moving parts in the story now and they've all nailed it 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
