Watching interviews of Gareth talking about playing Todd really makes me realize just how much he understands the character, and all the intricacies of Todds multiple arcs he’s gone thru, (which I fully believed I was just reading too deep into) but these are all basically confirmed and intertwined by Gareth when acting as Todd. An interview from a bit ago he spoke about how he’s excited for Todd to ‘restart’ his life and heal from the deep scars Theo has left on him, I just know he’s been mad as hellllll reading the last few scripts 😭😭

Which one of you wrote the James x Todd fanfic of his recovery etc I think it was like the light at the end of the tunnel or something, I read it a while ago and now I can’t find it 😭😭

Anyway I consider that canon in my head and WILL be hopefully drawing scenes from it soon 😛

The complete removal of Todd from the episodes after Theos death tells me everything I need to know about Corrie’s writing, it made the entire domestic abuse storyline feel like it was only shown for the drama of it.

Corrie’s writing has never been fantastic, but man, they seriously missed out on what could have been an amazing character arc for Todd before putting him back into a side character position. The Who-dunnit is dragged out and seems to only be focusing on relationships aswell which I don’t understand?? (Gary and Maria, Sarah and kit). In this Todd only seems to be there because he’s Sarah’s best friend, not the fact that it was HIS husband and abuser.

Even more frustrating knowing how well they set up Todd’s trauma-into-recovery arc, only to let it down basically instantly after Theo died. The only time Todd has been shown to suffer from the year long abuse was the scene with George where he went back to the flat and had a panic attack, or the day or two of him drinking alone in the rovers. after that he was fine.

I was so sure Todd would’ve had a similar reaction after Gary put his hands on him to try fight him in a later episode, or when summer/george raised their voice at him, or even something simple like when Summer dropped that glass in the bistro. But nope, Todd shrugged it off! It’s like Corrie has forgotten everything he went through within that relationship, Kit even confirmed that there were multiple counts of physical, emotional and sexual abuse inflicted on Todd.

I can already tell that he will come back from Thailand miraculously healed and be the same Todd from before the relationship with Theo because the writers aren’t bothered to keep up with the trauma. James has started getting a few more scenes aswell though which I assume is to re-introduce us to the character before Todd gets back. Then I’d say they will get together (maybe then they will address the trauma but who knows)

Anyway rant over I’ve just been annoyed at the writing the last few weeks maybe other people feel the same idk
