hello, loves!! i’m still alive, i swear, and i’m so sorry for my disappearing act lasting longer than i said it would. fandom grandpa here has been really enjoying the peace of the hp/fb fandoms compared to ow&vld lmao,,

i’m gonna call just a lil semi-hiatus here & on @atlaslived just so i don’t get more anxious if i don’t log in / when i want to log in but it’s been a few days. january’s been kinda weird and honestly it’s refreshing to have a ton of muse for a different character? i would DIE for shiro but i’ve been writing him over 2 years now & sometimes it’s just nice to explore a different personality lmao. so yeah!! i’m not leaving, god no -- if you know me, you know that shiro is the muse i always come back to -- just making myself feel more okay with taking a bit more of a break. i’ll stilll check in here though, and maybe do some writing now & then if i get the urge!!

until i’m feeling more balanced & comfortable with calling an end to the semi-hiatus though, you can find me FAR more consistently over on @animosus --- and mutuals are of course free to message me for my disco!!

fandom grandpa here’s been avoiding this dash since about this time yesterday bc of all the yelling. glad as I am about the jack reveal, fandom exhausts me & unfortunately this particular scenario has me fearing the same sort of discourse that’s gone on since shiro’s own reveal which tbh was the final straw in my deciding to leave the v/ld rpc months ago (before going crawling back but that’s irrelevant lmao).

BASICALLY I’m Tired and too old for all the screaming, be it joy or discourse. I’m just takin a break from this dash until maybe tomorrow. ilu all, I just need a breather until the excitement dies down a bit. find me over on @animosus where my muse is flowing strongly this week, if u want!! 💕

by far my favourite thing about my ow au? shiro feels more like someone his actual age. in his own canon he’s the adult, he’s the leader, he’s the one who everyone looks to for everything. he has so much weighing on him, and all of it was thrust upon him without a whole lot of choice, but he feels... obligated to take the position, to be that support for everyone, to be the leader in this massive intergalactic war. but in ow au… NONE of that is the case. he’s a kid, he’s working with people he looks up to and wants to impress, and it’s less crucial for him to keep his shit together at all times. he’s under so much less stress, he has room to make mistakes, and the livelihood of so many people doesn’t lie almost solely on his shoulders. he’s not THE leader ( though he does absolutely have traits that make him a good leader for missions once he’s less of a rookie ), and... he has people he can rely on and go to for much needed support.

i’ve talked briefly about this before, back somewhere near the beginning of this blog, but goddamn it’s such a big thing. it’s a refreshing sort of change from writing canon shiro ( not to say i don’t love writing that boy bc good god, do i ever ) because... he’s totally developed differently over the time i’ve been writing him here, and has so much potential to continue doing so as i bring him along his timeline. one of the greatest things, honestly, is he can actually get treatment for his ptsd and other mental illnesses instead of just... pushing them aside and trying to hide the symptoms. i’m just!! i’m emotional bc while he still has things rough in this au, he has so much room to grow and an opportunity to live a better life.

me: i’m gonna try to write a few things & queue them up

what happens instead: i write two things & then the fire alarm starts going off, not only requiring me to walk down 20 flights of stairs alone in my mom’s apartment building, but triggering awful phobia anxiety ( fortunately not to the point of a panic attack, but lmao my legs are weak & my body is shaking ). sit in lobby for ten minutes only to be told the fire is in the other tower, so we can go back up. climb back up 20 flights bc the elevators are still down, and the alarms go another 6 or 7 times by the time i get back home & drink a huge glass of cold water. end me.

"You are the best." Emily said into the floor. It was cool and felt nice against her aching head. "Shiro I'm marrying your floor. I can't find my old-man migraine music so this is the next best thing. All I need is the loving kiss of death and I'll be golden. Sorry floor, I may have to cheat on you." (Greenscarvesandredhair because even in massive pain she's going to be as extra as possible.)

     “ em, ”  he sighs as he decides he’s STARED at her on the floor for long enough and turns to head for the kitchen connected to the living room. there’s exasperation in his voice, but if emily could catch a glimpse of his face, she’d be able to see the CONCERN in his brow and the faintest of faint AMUSEMENT twitching for just a fraction of a second at his lips. shiro knows bad headaches, and migraines too, but he still thinks she’s being excessively dramatic.

          —then again, this is emily.

     “ i’ve already told you to take my bed, which would be WAY more comfortable for you than the floor. you might even be able to nap, which could help your head. ”  of course, this is him REPEATING HIMSELF, since she turned him down to instead lie on the floor. and… talk to it. shaking his head as he opens the freezer, shiro pulls out a cooling pack before then pulling open the fridge and removing a chilled bottle of water.

     “ i’m pretty sure the floor might only make it worse, ”  he adds, the sound of his voice getting closer as he reenters the living room. katsu is at his heels this time, woken from his nap by the sounds of the two arriving home, and the shibe BOUNDS over to begin sniffing at the floor-ridden emily. shiro, meanwhile, steps around to her head and kneels down, placing the bottle of water on the floor within her reach and the cooling pack gently against her head.

          “ can i at least offer you an aspirin, or something? ”

latches his arms around shiro's torso and gives him a little smooch on the forehead. dad's here. it's gonna be okay.

  he doesn’t know how to respond. hugs aren’t terribly UNCOMMON, fortunately, but they are most commonly initiated by him, and only come to him in his moments of distress on very rare occasions. of course, the latter isn’t because he doesn’t have people in his life who wouldn’t OFFER him their affection in his rough moments, rather it’s because he has a tendency to ISOLATE during those times. the last thing he wants is for anyone to see him like that and worry about him.

elias, however, has a knack for finding him in these moments. he… wants to be there. wants to HELP. admittedly, it had been something shiro had fought against at first, but it had quickly grown more and more difficult and, really, it’s… hard to DENY that having caring company and non-judgmental comfort is nice. and, if he were to be ENTIRELY honest, he feels… safe with elias.

even now though, he tries to FIGHT against the brewing emotions and intrusive thoughts, tries to fight the instinct to cling to elias for comfort. there’s an inherent feeling of need to appear STRONG and PUT-TOGETHER, to look as though he isn’t too damaged and BROKEN to be an overwatch agent. the soft kiss to his forehead, however, is enough to snap the last of the string that has been holding him together.

jaw clenching, shiro shuts his eyes tight and wraps his own arms around the doctor’s shoulders, moving closer to lean his body against elias’. face BURYING somewhere in the crook of elias’ shoulder and neck, shiro grips securely at whatever his hands can get a hold on and exhales a shaking breath.this isn’t the first time the other has seen him in such a state, and he’s sure it won’t be THE LAST — something that, in spite of his previous attempts to change the fact, he is immensely grateful for.

Velum is extremely embarrassed about her interests, since she feels like it’s something that she, as a non-human, wouldn’t or shouldn’t necessarily be involved with (romance, as a general genre). She’ll occasionally mention it, but only to Shiro, because she knows he won’t (intentionally) say something rude about it. It’s easy to see her more insecure side when she talks about it.

She always gets very excited when he comes back from a mission, and will follow him like a duckling for the rest of the day after his return, often doting on him and making sure he rests.

I feel like Shiro might worry about Velum sometimes, since she’s  not even like Winston in the fact that, truly, she’s alone. There’s nothing else like her, and even if she wanted more of her kind, there’s zero chance of the experiments that made her ever repeating.

Since Velum isn’t really allowed in public, she doesn’t really get to experience things like shopping, or being in groups of people. Something Velum has especially wanted to do is go to a pet store, since she loves watching videos of all sorts of animals online. During slow times, Shiro will bring Velum to farms (in ‘disguise’) so that she can experience, at least, a bit of a similar feeling. 

Bonus; sometimes if/when Shiro happens to be in a pet store and sees peachy coloured hamsters, it reminds him of Velum.

i think today i’m doing some more work over on newt, mostly continuing the revamping but probably some writing as well. BUT i am intending to get to some writing here & over on my canon shiro as well, if i can. sorta just going where muse takes me bc that’s the easiest way to get anything done lmao
