rewatching cotbp again as one does. and like. james actually really traded his entire moral compass momentarily (however skewed it may have been at the time) for elizabeth. overlooking the law he built his entire life around. the lives of several of his men lost on the promise that she would marry him. even when she didn’t, continued to bow his head to her by allowing will and jack to escape the noose that was promised them. the trembling in his voice when he asks where her heart lies. but still the first to fully acknowledge will’s making of the sword when his skills went ignored the entire first half of the movie. still giving jack a head start (in front of his subordinates!!) and i’m Not supposed to root for him
