Combat the Wyrm Wherever It Dwells and Whenever It Breeds
the midnight blue of the night sky, the tall fir trees stood out like silent sentinels. The moon hung like a beacon in the sky casting it's light over the land below, illuminating the figure below.
A dark creature slithered through the trees , its inky blackness a void against the moonkissed landscape . The abyssal tendrils lashed and twirled from where its limbs once were..the only clue to it's origin was the human face that was partially melted and twisted into a grotesque semblance of itself. Moving in a lumbering gait ,that was surprisingly fast.. it lifted its head and sniffed the air before snarling gutterally, picking up the pace.
A taunting howl cut the night air, a challenge from something just beyond the creature's sight but not beyond scent nor hearing. Though it did not see them , it knew.. it knew what was coming after it. Quickening its pace , the creature ran deeper into the forest, trying to meld into the dark recesses of the trees, to find a cave or a den in which to hide. However it's wish was not to be granted... a whistle in the air barely registered before an arrow found its way into its chest. The creature howled in anger and pain, vainly trying to rip the offending thorn from it's chest.Once the arrow was removed. the arrowhead dripping with black ichor , the creature looked up just in time to see the eyes of it's pursuers around him. The lambent glow of eyes surrounding it ,taunting, teasing..threatening.
The creature hissed at it's pursuers, circling around frantically trying to keep them all in it's sight . As if the moon also cast her judgement upon the creature below her, a circle of light opened up ,illuminating the creature and those that hunted it. Shrieking in a mix of terror and bravado, the creature lunged at one of the hunters, who deftly stepped away, exposing the creature's flank. Lashing out with razor sharp claws, the hunter laid open the creature's side, before darting out of reach, and letting a much larger ,burlier member step forth to press his attack. The massive hunter drew out a large blade from behind his back, and with one swipe cleaved the creature in two. Turning to face his pack, he let a wolfish grin cross his face, made all the more macabre due to the scarred muzzle that filled his face. Black and burly, the large male was clearly the Alpha of their pack, and it was apparent by the way the rest deferred to him.. suddenly there was a whistling in the air ,and the large hunter ,whirled around only to see two arrows hit the creature and finish it off. Looking into the trees ,he noted the female wielding the bow,and the look of determination on her stern face, before looking down at the creature , dead at his feet.
" Excellent shot Ilsa..you have a good eye " he stated in a rough gravelly voice , casting her a speculative glance, appraising the female werewolf critically. She met his eyes with a calm regard of her own.Though he terrified the others , he didn't scare her..she was a Get of Fenris.. she wasn't afraid of anything but she wasn't stupid either. Normally females weren't allowed to hunt with the males but she proved that she was as much Get as any of them. The only one she couldn't beat , was Brom ..ironically he was the one who acknowledged her prowess, and championed her cause to be accepted as one of them. Now he was her pack leader, by right of combat . Though the others objected to her presence. they soon learned that her cool head, and her steady arm often got them out of scrapes they hadn't counted on.
Taking the body of the creature, they tossed to it onto a pile of dead branches ,and set fire to it, standing over it ,to make certain that remains were destroyed ,and fire was contained so that it did not spread ,causing a forest fire. Though they did not agree with the other tribes about some things..protecting Gaia's forests from the Wyrm was one of them. A duty they took very seriously...

Kirk Douglas as a Norse warlord in The Vikings (1958) — Fun fact: Of the 60 shooting days in Norway, 49 were rainy and dark. According to TCM, Douglas asked a Norwegian boy playing a part in the film, “Does it always rain here in Norway?” The boy answered, “I don’t know. I’m only eighteen.”
He was one of the reasons why I love vikings so much; he introduced me to a lifelong love of the history and culture surrounding these fierce Norsemen.

Who says there’s no hero’s in the world except those in our imaginations?
This lady deserves to be remembered for her heroic and selfless acts : if it weren't for her, so many lives would have been lost. It is shameful that the committee chose someone instead who did not rightly deserve the recognition.
