bishop’s back, ALRIGHT!
Not pictured here: The bit where Combeferre literally sings a little victory song after everyone but Enjolras and an extremely schooled Marius departs from the café. (Les Misérables, Volume 3, Book 4, Chapter 5)
It’s been one week since I last saw my beloved husband (Jean Valjean)
Les Misérables, Vol. II, Book I, Chapter I.
OH HEY GUYS, WE’VE REACHED THIS PART OF THE BOOK, TIME TO PARTY THE WAY VICTOR HUGO WANTED US TO
Ah fuck it’s Waterloo tomorrow
Fantine’s death is fascinating for the way that Javert murders her in an indirect way, the kind of banal cruelty that would never legally be framed as murder even though Jean Valjean describes it that way. It’s less of a “deliberate execution” and more of that frightening “she had a pre-existing condition and died in custody.”
Congratulations, Les Mis Letters Readalong readers, on finishing books 5 and 6! Here’s to hoping things look up for poor Madeleine and Fantine…. I can’t believe Javert almost mistook Madeleine for Jean Valjean!
“There were no trees in the plain. We saw a man passing close to us. He was entirely nude, of the hue of ashes, and mounted on a horse which was earth color. The man had no hair; we could see his skull and the veins on it. In his hand he held a switch which was as supple as a vine-shoot and as heavy as iron. This horseman passed and said nothing to us.»
… is anyone else imagining that ridiculous picture of Putin on a horse… but he is holding a nintendo switch…
…. so what has the brick made you look up recently?
don’t worry valjean, I too feel the stern gaze of colm wilkinson in my head whenever I procrastinate
The brick is mostly talk about a man who is -obvously- Valjean but no no that’s a secret this is a STRANGER WE HAVE NO CLUE WHO HE IS OKAY
and
This is a metaphor. The metaphor is God. You’re probably too stupid to figure that out for yourself so there it is. It means God. You’re welcome.
Monsieur Madeleine has such immense levels of disney prince descriptions, it's actually strange that Hugo didn’t mention that little blue birds help him get dressed in the morning.
@caffeinatedjimmie made me post this
marius stronger than me if enjolras told me "who cares about your lonely soul" i would have just left
i also find it funny how marius is kind of like "if you ever went outside you might have known how it feels"
LMAO Marius be like "go touch some grass you nerd"
WHAT!
“you should be at the club” Brother I should literally be sent to the seaside for my health
