LD 1 - Lost and Found

Starting something new! I’m so excited to try out this format hehe. I'm inexperienced enough in digital drawing that doing full color jobs on anything still really intimidates me, I usually just prefer doodling and keeping things in black and white (especially since I like making comics and those take long enough without coloring). But I was inspired by these new character ideas to use a texting format so that I can still tell a story without having quite as many drawings to make. This way I can practice coloring while indulging in a new project 😊 

This series will be called “Long Distance.” Unlike Salt & Pepper, I have no posting schedule of any kind for these, I'll just be posting them whenever I make a new one. I can't wait for you guys to get to know these two 🥰

Sonnet

When we write, when we want, we create: the wrong thing.

It's not even a sonnet! But that's what happens when we sit down to create, isn't it. We mess it up. And then it's not the thing we sat down to make, but its own thing. Maybe next time we'll do it right, but then what have we got to look forward to? Fuck all is what. What are you going to do, do it perfectly again? Are we robots? No, we do the best we can, and we look at it and say, yes, that is not the thing I set out to make, it is its own, it made itself and I was a midwife. I was there. And that is enough, and that is good.

Hey, are you wearing diapers? No it's not a kink thing, it's a genuine question, are you wearing diapers? Well if not go put on some Depends or something because when I tell you this you are going to piss your pants. You will. Well then go get some diapers and put them on and I'll wait. I'll be here. Go get the diapers. Well go to the store then, dumbass, do I have to draw a map? I'll wait. Yes I'm serious. Get the diapers. You got the diapers? OK. Fuck give me some diapers because I've been holding in what I'm gonna tell you so hard that I peed my pants. A little. Not much. Yeah, give me the one with the racing stripes. I'll be right back. Don't go anywhere because you're gonna wanna hear this, it's gonna ring your bell.

OK. Here we go. What if there... hey. Hey. Pack a lunch because you are about to go on an adventure. What I'm gonna tell you is gonna send you, man. What? No, don't actually pack a lunch. Jesus, that's a fuguyre of speech. No, I mis-spelled 'figure'. You take everything so literally guy it's kinda endearing. OK. So, so, so... ok.

You weren't gonna let yourself get excited, and you weren't gonna touch him, but goddamn it felt so good to relax with someone else for once. You beat him in Mario Kart, laughing and screaming at each other, and he offered you a gentlemanly handshake. The second you made contact he vanished. Your whole body went cold. You brought your hand to your terrified eyes and tried to steady the shaking enough to see. There he was. A little frantic dot skittering around on your palm. You hissed swears and the dot dashed in the opposite direction, but froze at the looming cliff.

Your friend came back from the kitchen. "Where's-" she said, but then she saw your expression and her shoulders slumped. "Jesus. Okay. Stop-stop panicking, let's figure this out. It took me this long to get you to make a friend, I'm not gonna let this fuck it up." She knelt in front of you and you held your hand out to her. "Hey," she said to the dot. "You're fine, you're just… small. Our friend here has, uh, some abilities. It's happened to me, like, a lot." She looked back to you. "Now if you wouldn't mind chilling out for a second."

You nodded. You took a few seconds to calm yourself, then put all your focus onto your palm. Slowly, the little form inched back up. At one inch you could see his hands on his head. At two, you could see his smile. At three, hear his panicked giggles.

"CHRIST!" he said. "A-a warning, maybe!" He looked between you two colossi and held his beating heart. "Ohhh, god, I thought I got blasted to hell or something."

"Hi," you said. "I'm really sorry."

"You're-you're fine. Geez. I'd hate to see what happens when you lose at Mario Kart."

Slept an hour last night but my exhaustion is your delight as I wrote another poem. It is your delight isn't it. Isn't it.

Pesach Sheni (Second Pesach) was established after a group of Jews who were ritually impure from handling corpses approached Moshe to ask for a chance to observe Pesach, because they weren't ritually pure in time for its timely observation. G-d then established a second Pesach exactly a month after the first Pesach, on the 14th of the month of Iyar, for people who were, due to reasons outside of their control, unable to observe the first Pesach.

Pesach Sheni had been observed by some Jewish communities for many years, primarily just through the eating of matzah on that day, but in recent years, its message of inclusion and second chances has been used to promote the inclusion of people marginalized from Jewish society. Beginning with the LGBTQ+ Orthodox Jewish community in Israel in the 2000s, the commemoration of Pesach Sheni as a time to reflect on LGBTQ+ inclusion has spread to LGBTQ+ Jewish communities around the world, asking the question that was asked Moshe in the desert, "?לָ֣מָּה נִגָּרַ֗ע", "Why should we be excluded?"
