Artilin - Eyes (2014)
Positive parts of 2016

WELL ACTUALLY SINCE YOU ASKED:
- Starbucks actually did the hard work of figuring out how to donate perishable food in a foodsafe way.
- 500 elephants were relocated to a better, safer and bigger home.
- “Unadoptable” cats (who are usually killed) may have a really important place in the world in their traditional area of work, given we’re thinking maybe poisoning stuff all over the place is a bad plan.
- We made massive strides in Alzheimers’ prevention.
- We found out that the ozone layer is repairing itself and that all the work we did to get rid of those aerosol chemicals was actually worth it.
- This therapy could cure radiation sickness.
- The Anglican church resolved to solemnize same-sex unions the same as opposite-sex unions, which required a super-majority of all three orders of the church (lay, clergy, bishop) and got MORE than that from both lay and bishop.
- The Rabbinical Assembly issued a resolution affirming the rights of transgender and non-conforming individuals.
- The Liberal gov’t changed the Canada Child Benefit so that it’s actually helping people who NEED THE FUCKING HELP. (I am sorry if you are a six figure income you do not actually fucking need this make some fucking lifestyle adjustments for fuck’s sake.)
- Highway of Tears is finally getting some regular fucking bus service.
- Eastwood donated a bunch more land to the Carmel River restoration project.
- We have developed gene-therapy for autoimmune disorders.
- Precision treatments for cancer are hitting clinical trials and WORKING.
- Dentists are once again providing free care to veterans who need it.
- The Anglican bishop on the Islands made an Eastern pilgrimage walking from Alert Bay to Victoria to stop at every First Nations community and personally, unequivocally apologize for his church’s involvement in fucking them up.
- Canada is actively attempting to increase and improve refugee resettlement.
- It has been determined that the manatee population has bounced back so much (500%) that it can be moved from “endangered” to “threatened”.
- This guy got to see his kids again.
- The Orlando Shakespeare Festival showed up with angel wings to block funeral-goer’s view of hate group so they wouldn’t be disrupted.
- Net Neutrality has been upheld by the appeals court. (No that fight isn’t over BUT THIS IS STILL A FUCK OF A GOOD THING.)
- We may have cured MS. (LET ME REPEAT: WE MAY HAVE CURED MS.)
- New short-treatment-period cure for HepC is huge success.
- Rise Women’s Legal Centre opened.
… . and this is just what I came up with in a pretty lazy google search in an hour, including distractions where I went down the research rabbit-hole for a bit because holy crap some of that stuff’s NEAT, guys!
And I know I’m missing stuff, because I wanted a citation for every single thing I put on there.
Yes, there have been some really bad things that have happened in 2016. There have also been a number of huge fucking miracles, and SIMILAR bad things have always happened, just about every damn year - maybe not to you, or maybe they didn’t make the news, and maybe you just don’t remember any of the good because of that whole massive Negative Bias problem that human brains have, but?
A lot of good shit happened. A lot.
And like I do actually get the sudden overwhelmed feeling of EVERYTHING SUCKS? but that mindset is, at this point, literally our worst enemy. “Everything is terrible somebody do something” helplessness is what will in fact consign us to everything BEING terrible.
Everything is not terrible. In fact there are new ways, every single month, wherein new opportunities and miracles are happening and no that does not balance out the bad shit but it gives every reason to FIGHT the bad shit, and to get past the bad shit, and to make sure the bad shit ISN’T the overwhelming stain.
So.
Reblogging because this year has been a cascade of bad news and this list of good stuff is SO GOOD! Thank you for that!
Dear Papa,
Remember when you took me trick or treating and I was Raggedy Anne and a man was pretending to be a scarecrow and he tried to scare all you adults and I just wanted him to pick me up?
Remember when everyone piled into your family room for Christmas morning and it was one of the only times everyone was all together?
Remember the cabbage patch doll you got me for Christmas because she looked just like me?
Remember the baby beauty pageant and me winning first place and getting to try chocolate for the first time?
Remember hanging out in your backyard with Buster the pony or playing on the big step in the pool in my life jacket?
Remember going fishing with me in my little rubber duckie boots and overalls and my pink fishing pole?
Remember Rashid and Sami visiting and Sami being a butthead, especially to me?
Remember going to all the soccer games and softball games, and all of Michael’s basketball and baseball games, and all of Alex’s soccer and softball games, and rooting us on?
Remember picking plums and peaches and apples and persimmons in the backyard and making sure to get all of the ones off the ground so the dogs didn’t get them?
Remember us bringing Kodi over to hang out in the back yard and how much bigger he looked than Bailey?
Remember all the father’s days and birthdays we spent at your house making lumpia and cucumber salad and smoked salmon and venison and burgers?
Remember going to La Provence for special birthdays because they had interesting game meat like kangaroo?
Remember going to Folsom Lake to hang out and fish and spend time on the boat?
Remember babysitting us for the day and taking us on errands and trying to entertain ourselves in the dentist’s office?
Remember going to the base to go shopping and me begging you to get tomagotchis for my friend and me?
Remember getting us the ps2 for Christmas and it was the best gift we ever got because the whole family could play?
Remember coming over every Christmas morning with a dozen donuts and spending the day at our house with all of the kids in our matching pjs?
Remember going to Alex’s graduation in Oakmont’s quad and how hot it was that afternoon?
Remember rides in the blazer that smelled like cigarettes and mints with papers and junk all over the back?
Remember lying to the DMV about losing one of your personalized license plates when you turned in the other one so you could give it to me because we have the same initials?
Remember pruning the ivy around the pool and doing all the yard work before jumping in the pool?
Remember Saleh and Cheryl and Sami and Rashid and his girlfriend at the time coming to visit and all of us hanging out in the grotto or the seat in the pool?
Remember teaching me with dad how to shoot by blowing up balloons and taping them to targets when I was a toddler?
Remember all of the visits to the range where you taught us about gun safety and how to be better and just hanging out while you worked as the range master?
Remember how Alex was always afraid of the range so we’d have to put ear muffs on her and leave her in the car with toys?
Remember the silly glass mugs you kept in the freezer so you could always have cold milk without it getting watery from ice?
Remember birthday calls while I was in college that lasted an hour just catching up because I didn’t see you as much anymore?
Remember going to the new range and me being almost as good as you at target practice?
Remember the weird bottle of alcohol with two necks that you gave dad and how he always wanted to save it for a special occasion and it’s still sitting unopened on the piano?
Remember us playing soccer in your big back yard when Rashid was still playing and Saleh was coaching a tournament nearby?
Remember us asking about your air force tattoos and you saying you don’t like yours anymore but Rashid got the same swallows you had with a banner between them that said “gramps”?
Remember how much Kodi loved you and got so excited to see you when you came over even though he never got that excited about anyone else?
Remember all the birthday cards and the checks you wrote for us that mum and dad spent to buy us toys instead of saving when we were kids?
Remember all of us wrestling in the family room when Sami came to visit and it was the biggest dog pile ever?
Remember Michael discovering the old motorcycle and wanting to restore it but you were scared for his safety so you made deals with him about not actually riding it?
Remember coming to pick Michael up to do yard work before he could drive himself and sometimes I’d come with you guys?
Remember Nathan coming over to meet you for the first time and hanging out in the backyard while dad picked fruit off the trees?
Remember when I did my 8th grade hero video project about you and how you quit smoking even though you hadn't actually quit but everyone gathered to watch it at someone's birthday dinner and everyone loved it?
Remember how much everyone loved you?
Rest in Paradise, Papa. May the fish always bite and may the steaks always be rare. I miss you.

“Mosaic sushi” is the latest trend in Japan right now, but you don’t need to like raw fish to enjoy it. All you need is an appreciation for art, because as you can see from the pictures below, that’s exactly what it is.
The concept couldn’t be simpler. Put some pieces of sushi together in a square and voila, you’ve got mosaic sushi. Simple, yes, but also totally mesmerizing. In fact, it sort of makes normal sushi look too, well, normal. Let’s just hope it goes international soon. In the meantime, we’re packing our bags for Japan. Again. (Source)

Carrie Fisher explains to a little boy what ‘bipolar’ means, at Indiana Comic Con 2015.
I love her so much.
I will always reblog this because it’s the best description of bi-polar I have EVER seen. (Especially to people who don’t understand what mania means. You aren’t HAPPY, you’re very fast.) It was SO important to 15-year-old me to learn that PRINCESS LEIA (whose hair I have envied since age 7, btw) was bi-polar.
she is so good and i love her so much, and so so much for TALKING about everything so frankly. (without losing an ounce of her humor).
I never gave Carrie Fisher much thought until she was the guest on Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me - If you aren’t familiar with the show, it’s a news-related comedy podcast recorded weekly in Chicago.
She was hilarious and everything I have read/seen since has made me like and respect her more.
