Also, note that this technique (CRISPR/Cas9) is not a part of our immune system, as the article above says - itâs derived from a species of bacteria.

Thanks to tumblr user im2pac for putting this in the sixpenceee tag and bringing it to my attention.Â
There is now a particle that enables humans to live without breathing.
As said by Huffington Post
The report states the âmicroparticlesâ are made of a single layer of fatty molecules, or lipids, that surround pockets of oxygen gas and are injected into the bloodstream via a liquid solution.
This was inspired by a case of a redhead girl who had severe pneumonia. Her lung tissues became severely damaged and she went into cardiac arrest.Â
Dr. John Kheir of Bostonâs Children Hospital says that this particle helped an animal which had damaged airways and kept it alive for 15 minutes without breathing.
The implications of this particle is profound and can help in many cases such as drowning.Â
It works like this in case you didnât get it: if someone couldnât breathe at all (lungs damaged, bad airways) then putting an oxygen mask over their face would be ultimately useless. Oxygen gas is inserted into the bloodstream of the person itself this way, enabling them to live on.

This is so amazing
I know right, I wish something like this got more attention than Kim Kardashianâs outfit of the day, but sadly thatâs not how the world works.Â
Oh God. That last comment. Exactly. We care about all of the wrong things.
People of tumblr, letâs not be like the rest of the world. Letâs get this the attention it deserves.Â
And another pinch of fireworks to finish this 4th July, from Physicist TVâs hand,

Many insects are actually quite nutritous, itâs mostly squirmishness which prevents many of us from fully appreciating these delicasies. I once saw a show in which a fantastic chef injected crickets with what I think was jelly or something with similar texture. âcrunchy on the outside, yet soft and squishy on the inside" - Timone

This is what pisses me off about Tumblr. You all say youâre so accepting and you donât want to offend anyone, but then thousands of people reblog something like this because Christians arenât the minority. You wouldnât want to offend a Muslim, and if this were offensive to them or another minority, thereâd be so many comments about it. But everyone is completely fine with offending a non minority. âYouâre not oppressed, you canât talk!â You know what? Iâm a Christian and this offends me and my faith, but nobodyâs going to care about that because Iâm not oppressed. Tumblr is hypocritical and that needs to stop.
Amen to the comment
Oh my precious lambs:
Examine why you are being offended. Because this is literally how a sunset works. There is not room for debate on this question. There is less room for debate on this than there is on just about any other thing. We are not reblogging because Christians arenât the minority, dear ones. We are reblogging because after the debate a few days ago, creationists were given the opportunity to pose a question for non-creationists. One of these questions was:
"How can you explain a sunset if their is no god?" (sp.)
Questions, we assume, are posed so that someone might answer them. And yes, there is an answer of how exactly one can explain a sunset given the absence of a divine force. Now, you can certainly posit that God is the creator of all things and so all things came from him including the sun and light refraction and anthrax and kittens and famine and all that jazz.
But you donât get to deny that THIS IS HOW A SUNSET WORKS, and of the necessary elements of this equation (Sun + Atmosphere + Angle = Sunset), God is not one of them. Thatâs because everything else is an observable phenomenon, and God is not. You can explain a sunset without God. You can go ahead and believe that Godâs part of it all. Thatâs cool. Lots of people believe stuff like that, and I encourage you to delve into the ways that people make science and their faith jive. But if you are offended by being shown the basic scientific principals behind a sunset, you must be offended by damn near everything. And that seems exhausting.Â

Relatively awesome.
So, an interesting thing when dealing with anti-vaxxers is that they totally think theyâre in the right. Handing them information doesnât work, and berating them definitely doesnât work. But a recent study did find out that anti-vaccination people were more willing to listen and comply with data when they were asked to write an positive essay about their sense of self. source The reason? We wrap up our identity in differing things and our self esteem is wrapped up in that. When you yell facts at an anti-vaccine person, that may not help. Calling them stupid definitely wonât help! When you say, âyouâre a bad parent unless you vaccinate your kidsâ they donât hear this as âvaccinate your kidsâ but rather as an attack on their parenting style. As a result? Theyâre more likely to shut out logic and reasoning. Quote from the article:
when people feel their sense of self threatened by the outside world, they are strongly motivated to correct the misperception, be it by reasoning away the inconsistency or by modifying their behavior.
Itâs an odd catch 22. How do you talk to anti-vaccination people that have concerns about vaccines? I think you can try to kill the doubts with kindness. Reassure people that they are good parents, and that being concerned for their kids health is natural and healthy. Donât point out things that diminish their character. It seems to be better to literally just butter them up with compliments before diving into the facts.
After that? Talk about the benefits of vaccines in society. How they work. Make it non-ideological (no us vs. them, just facts). Anti-vaxxers think theyâre being really good parents. If you attack their identities as parents? Game over. Attack the misconceptions, rely on historical success with vaccines, and talk about the diseases they prevent (but please donât make it seem like theyâre deliberately attacking their children with these diseases. Remember, avoid character attacks). Then direct them to reputable sources if they want to do further research.
I agree with your sentiment, and yes itâs a good technique which I would use if I were giving medical advice in the wider community, but itâs just so frustrating because theyâre not even coming up with any logical reasoning behind their decisions - theyâre just flat out rejecting any statement the doctor comes up with. I was just venting a bit on my blog, but I should have probably written something constructive rather than going with a reaction gif.
Still, willful ignorance - dangerous willful ignorance that causes the preventable deaths of vulnerable people who cannot for medical/age related reasons be vaccinated equates to stupidity in my book - even if itâs because of a concern, albeit misguided concern for their childâs health. I know I sound like a hypocrite given I have in the past posted stuff on the backfire effect, and how to criticize with kindness, but that is assuming that the person is to some extent reasonable and willing to debate. The mentioned technique might convince some, but I donât think most of them can be educated away from the scare campaign they have been exposed to. Perhaps the only way to get around it is to educate people before they get exposed to these fear campaigns on things like herd immunity, exaggerated fears against chemicals with strange names, the fact that the initial study was found to be a fraud and the reason why correlation does not equal causation in terms of linkages between the number of autistic diagnosis and the rates of vaccination. This would require a structured campaign across schools, maternal health centers, hospitals and elsewhere to have any effect and it has to be done so well as to minimize the backfire effect.
