Hello again. I am still Man. I share a mixture of bug fun facts and personal life anecdotes. I attempt to tag things well, but as all humans, I am not perfect.

I am always open to researching fun facts about bugs for people. If you want this, please send an ask. I may occasionally give my own experiences I have heard from my many bug friends, this can also be requested

That blog I reblogged recently reminded me of a moth “species” I find interesting.

(Please note, information about this species is extremely cloudy due to misinformation, so please correct me if I got any facts (major or minor) wrong)

Some people in the moth space most likely know about it due to it’s name being given to random silkmoths.

I am of course talking about the “poodle moth”

This is the only photo captured of one. It was found on an expedition in Venezuela in 2009. It had never been seen since.

Despite this, in the 2010’s, people became interested in it. Someone (most likely not the discoverer) named it the poodle moth, and people began attributing many other moth species to be poodle moths (most likely due to the general publics lack of knowledge on bugs). They commonly labeled silk moth’s them, and it is so common that a frequent image used when talking about the poodle moths is a needle-felted moth plush!

Now, you may be wondering if the moth I showed you is real, and I will say that the moth was photographed by a real zoologist who has discovered new species in the past. So the moth itself is most likely real, but the chaos that surrounds it makes many believe the opposite.

Ah, summer. The time of the year all bugs can truly enjoy the outside world.

Conversely, also the time of year where all bugs predators eat the most bugs, I assume.

Fun fact.

Bugs and other tiny animals are smarter than most people think, as Ive mentioned earlier, a mantis once learned how to fish. Jumping spiders seemingly recognize different face, dragonflies are very efficient hunters (which I personally believe is associated with some form of intelligence), domesticated bees make extra honey for the beekeeper. The list goes on

You should perhaps get someone immersed in bug-cultures to talk to them, they can help explain culture differences in ways some non-bugs have trouble with.
