Aziraphale literally wrote it...
"...in that bookshop, which was the whole world..." Just saying...
The more I think about it, the more I think they're in the snow globe. (Personal pocket universe with a bookshop and the bentley.) As a little she left a gift them for making a selfless choice. She knew what they really wanted, so she indulged them. Why else would they bother creating the merch and putting it in the show for nano second?!
The silliest thing I find about this whole "they only got 30 years together in the end with no memories of their shared history so what was the point" is that EVERYONE THINKS THEY ONLY MET EACH OTHER IN THIS ONE SINGULAR LIFETIME REALITY instead of my immediate thought that as its architects, Aziraphale and Crowley were wound so deep into the fabric of the new universe that there is a version of them finding each other and falling in love every single generation for billions and billions of years??????
A Roman version and a French Revolution version and a WWII version and ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND---
For goodness sake the song that plays over this version of them finding and falling in love is "Time After Time"! THE IMPLICATION IS THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS FIND EACH OTHER!!!!!! ***ALWAYS*** IN EVERY LIFETIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what does Asa wish for in the epilogue???
Good Omens 3 SPOILER!
I've recovered from the finale and I'm back to my regular BS!š¤š
I think Iām finally understanding why Crowley kept saying āitās always too lateā and āyou canāt change anythingā for the entire series. I donāt think he was being nihilistic, I think he understood from the beginning that the system itself was rigged. He fell for asking questions. Heās spent thousands of years watching Heaven and Hell manipulate people while pretending it was all part of some divine order, and he always knew it was never really going to work.
So by the time we get to the finale, Aziraphale is the one still holding onto the belief that thereās goodness or fairness somewhere inside the system, and the Book of Life finally breaks that illusion for him. Because suddenly existence itself can just be erased or rewritten for the sake of a tidy ending. Thatās why Satan is there. Thatās why theyāre the last two people left on Earth. God wrote it that way because she thought it made a good story.
And Crowley has always known that on some level. They were pawns. They were always pawns.
So when God finally says āfine, you choose,ā and they go into the bookshop Eden together, thatās the first real act of free will either of them has ever had. Crowley choosing a new universe isnāt really about destruction, itās about choosing Aziraphale over the framework that has controlled them for millions of years. Like, if they canāt change anything inside the system, then why not change everything?
Crowley is choosing a place without all those constraints for everyone yes, but by doing so he is also choosing Aziraphale.
PS. They are celestial magical beings, they have a totally different understanding of what consciousness and matter are. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Plus, itās clear that they are powerful together (ahemā¦the ātinyā half miracle from S2) and they left this Universe with full autonomy, completely in agreement with both of their hearts truly and completely unconditionally full of reciprocated love. And then remade the Universeā¦I think that act and intention alone holds much power! So the moral of the story, they never disconnected, they are still holding hands in the star dust, as star dust. Watching and giggling at all the silly lives their essence creates. And that for a pair of former ineffables, that might just feel like peace to them. ā¤ļø
Asa Z. Fell?
was Asa always the āAā in A.Z. Fell? We never did learn what the initials stood for.
If you need to be mad at someone...
Be mad at the archangel Michael for royally effing everything up... Be mad at NG for being a piece of shit... The irony of Michael destroying beloved things and things disappearing. Much like our season 3.
The humans arenāt the only version of themā¦.
so they donāt just get 20-30 years⦠they get millions-billions of lifetimes of finding each other over and over. In every shape, form, concept possible. Their essence lives in all these beings and lives.
the music choice of Time After Time was intentional and integral to us understanding that part of the story.
they were never going to be free to love each other
I think part of why the S3 ending works for me, despite how painful it is, is that Aziraphale and Crowley never actually had free will in the original universe.
Not really.
We, as the audience, experienced their relationship through a very human lens, so we kept imagining they could eventually just ārun away togetherā and finally be happy as an angel and demon. But the finale reveals something much darker: their entire existence existed inside an authored system.
God admits She kept putting them together because their love amused Her. Crowley was āgivenā to Aziraphale. Their meetings across history were not random. Their longing was observed, nudged, cultivated, but never actually allowed to fully resolve.
Thatās horrific.
Not because their love wasnāt real. Their love was probably the most real thing in the universe. But the framework surrounding it was fundamentally manipulative.
They were never safe. Never free. Never truly allowed to choose each other completely.
Which is why the ending ultimately requires a new universe.
Not because Aziraphale and Crowley āfailedā to make it work. Because the original cosmology itself was abusive.
The tragedy is not that they loved each other and lost. The tragedy is that they finally realized the game itself was rigged.
And once they understood that, there was no ethical way to continue existing inside it.
Good Omens Spoilers and Thoughts
Was Asa always the āAā in A.Z. Fell??
I think a lot of discomfort I am sitting with is that they never really got to say what they needed in full. But I think thatās partly due to the show being super condensed. Like how much did we miss from their conversation in bookshop Eden?
My headcanon is that they stayed in that space a lot longer than what they showed us. Time doesnāt exist any more and I doubt god cared.
I may be one of the few who loves the ending. The idea of it.
What I donāt love is that the OG Aziraphale and Crowley donāt get to know what happens after their choice. They donāt get to know that they won. That makes me so sad.
Why couldnāt they remake the universe AND choose to be together? (They are/do but why was there only a singular choice in that moment?)
Good Omens 3 Thoughts (spoilers)
Iāve been processing this all day. Initially, I was devastated at their decision. My heart is completely shattered for them. I only wanted to see their happy ending. And they did get oneā¦in some capacity.
Hereās whatās keeping me going:
They created a new universe from their love. And I love that for them. Essentially, they are now the creators of that universe. Itās theirs. They find each other in every life, every single one. For millennia.
And then one day something shifts, their ethereal bodies return. (Perhaps a gift from god?)
They wake up again as Aziraphale and Crowley in their own safe universe. With full memories of all their human lives, plus the 6000+ years before that. They are forever changed by love and now they fully get to live as eternal beings in it. Every now and then, they return to finding each other in their human lives but sometimes they just hang out together in their etherial cottage. (Crowely is definitely Hozier by the way. For Eden hits wayyyyyyy different now.)
what show does David Tennant regret working on?!
so this has been rattling around in my brain for a couple weeks and I was hoping someone would bring it up but nobody has said anything so here goesā¦
during one of the recent podcasts featuring David and Georgia, the question was raised on whether he regrets anything heās worked on.
david answers something to the likes of āi donāt regret anything Iāve worked, well there is one show but we wonāt talk about thatā etc
Georgia adds that āyes but you made a friend on that showā
david confirms he did indeed make a friend.
(sorry, I donāt have the exact clip)
But what show is he talking about?! Is it GO?!
I'm an optimist at heart...I truly believe our Ineffables will have their happy ending. They'll be an 'Us' in some capacity...
But I can't stop thinking about what 'Us' will look like 1000 years from now? 1 million years?
How might they evolve, shift and settle now that they are safe to be who they want to be?!
WHY after all these months, am I still so emotionally affected/devastated when I see/hear/smell even the smallest hint of Crowleyās speech in the final 15?!??
Like, I still canāt watch it! I have to speed scroll past āand I would like to spendā¦ā whenever it comes up on Tiktok and I still have a moment of sadness and grief every time.
When does it get better?!?! Please send helpā¦
Do you both have a list of nicknames you call each other?
Yes, but Aziraphale isn't allowed to answer this ask. No one gets to know what he calls me.
I call him 'love' and 'angel'. - Crowley
ok, but now Iām likeā¦
What DOES Aziraphale call Crowley??
