This wasn't happening. The universe must be messing with her because Scarlett Vandervort had not put her name into that letterbox. She had learned her lesson with these kinds of match up events back when she had been paired with Jake Hunter and he had tried to kiss her. This wasn't fun for her, and being dragged away from Jason... Well! That certainly wasn't fun either. Maybe she should have ignored it in favour of spending the rest of the evening with someone she actually wanted to be around, but she felt bad knowing that someone would be waiting for her with no idea what had happened. Her plan was simple: go up there, explain what had happened, then leave.
Scarlett was already incredibly late when she reached the hotel room and unlocked the door, her mind racing a mile a minute as she tried to figure out what she would say to whoever she had kept waiting–and then she saw him. "Benji." The universe really was playing a sick sort of game.

The excitement and thrill of being matched with a mystery partner had been slowly waning for Benji as he'd sat on the edge of the bed, his elbows braced on his thighs as he listened to other party-goers move through the hallway outside. He had a feeling his match wasn't going to show up.
He was about to give up and help himself to the champagne when the sound of a key in the lock drew his attention back to the door and the familliar face it had revealed. Scarlett Vandervort. Their one and only date - if you could call it that- was seared into Benji's mind, along with the feeling of Jason's fist colliding with his face. As nice as Scarlett was, he didn't fancy a second round and from the look on her face, it seemed like she didn't either. "This is awkward."
