NOT★COPS: Ghost Ride It!
page 26
The end of I guess the prologue to the series, lol
the TBC preview shows them in the back of a police car because WHOUIOOUH MYSTERIE TEASER
I was overwhelmed writing and plotting out the canonical start of the series that it became necessary to make Ghost Ride It! as a semi canonical precursor to establish the series and characters and their relationship to the supernatural world they inhabit. Sometimes u just wanna do a spin off because its fucking “easy” and self-contained, and this is that.
I decided to post the rest of the whole comic because the other day i was sitting in a call with all the other spindlehorse artists watching the mid-90s sam and max cartoon, which was the first time I was seeing it since i was a little kid. What struck me was the parallels I completely forgot between notcops and sam and max and how much that had inspired and informed me. This episode even starts with them just BEING at a roadside attraction giant dino park.
I guess im stunned how much this, one of my favourite childhood shows, left an impression on me and influences how i write and produce something similar to it without rly remembering the source material. This, the reckless irreverent shithead detective duo dynamic, the monster of the week thing...
in any case, thats where the similarities kind of end.. One of the big inspirations for this comic was one of the oldest image board memes around: Cockmongler
Tonal whiplash aside, if you havent noticed already, this is the shirt the protags wear throughout the duration of the comic after visiting the gift shop. When i first drafted the idea for this comic, it was to service a tribute and joke to the history of this meme: That the origins of the cockmongler jpeg is that it was originally lifted from the “fun stuff” page on the old website of the World’s Largest Dinosaur roadside attraction in Drumheller alberta. The notcops drove all the way to alberta just to goto this giant dinosaur and buy this exact shirt from the giftshop, then spend the following weeks constantly, as in never taking off this shirt. lmfao. the whole deeplore of this comic is that i tried to imagine a superfluous supernatural narrative as companion to the fact that i originally just wanted to make them get and then wear this shirt for an indeterminate amount of time in hopes that some people who would get the joke, would see that.
alot of the things i write or make have this extremely stupid, extremely contrived, extremely SUBTLE referential nostalgic weaved into the story.
So I think thats all Ill say on the matter and let the other jokes and hidden references in this comic and my other works speak for itself
thank you for reading!!
