Grayson + Lyra rushed

Okay so I liked TGG. It was a three star read for me but I won't get into that in this post because this is about Grayson and Lyra. I absolutely loved their buildup and tension and 100% could see them being endgame. That being said, I felt the final scene (their kiss) felt quite rushed. Grayson is a slow-burner as we've gotten to learn from all the previous books. So him being so quick to get with Lyra after them only knowing eachother what, six hours? Felt very out of character for him. I also think Grayson doesn't really need a love interest. He needs to love and believe in himself more. Get him to be more vulnerable with his brothers before giving him a love interest. But yes, I felt the kiss was rushed and it would've been better to wait until Grandest Rivals to have them kiss because by then they'll have had more time together and there would still be tension. I also think JLB really should've ended the series at The Hawthorne Brothers because atp, it kind of feels like she's dragging on the story imo. Lmk your thoughts!

opinion: rohan should win the grandest game💔

One thing I think this fandom needs more of: don’t be afraid to say what you think about a character and to stick by your opinion. Being open-minded is important to see the different sides of a character, even one you love a lot, and understanding why there is a dislike or hatred towards them but you don’t have to apologize for your thoughts. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, to keep it if they wish or to change it as they see fit.

once again I am telling you guys that just because you’re personally biased towards this character/series/book does not make criticism towards it false or untrue!!

Like guys…please. I love some books but can acknowledge a good point when there is one. Why in all book fandoms now I feel as if every person with a criticism gets attacked and yall don’t even TRY to hear them out😫 (obvs does not apply for people who say something and back it up with no reasoning)

This is my most controversial opinion yet, but while I want both Lyra and Rohan to win, I want Rohan to win more.

This isn't because I hate Lyra (I do not) or think she deserves it less, but because I know she'll be fine even if she loses. Mind you, Lyra's playing so her family could still send her to college and afford their current lifestyle without selling her childhood home, which would also solve their money problems since the land their house is on is implied to be worth a LOT. It's a sad reality, but Lyra will be fine regardless.

In contrast to Lyra, the only thing Rohan has going for him is the Devil's Mercy, but even that's not guaranteed. We don't know his life before the Mercy, but we do know he was orphaned, adopted at the age of 5 by the soon-to-be-dead proprietor, and has worked for the Mercy ever since. He's not just playing to secure his spot as the next Proprietor (a position that's bought just as much as it is earned), but his future as one because it's all he has. No family, no friends, no education, no trust fund, no future outside the Mercy, and not even a last name.

He also has a year to gather ten million pounds before he loses Proprietorship to the Duchess, who will probably want nothing to do with him if she does take over (they're rivals vying for the same thing, what did you expect?). If I remember correctly, the 2nd Grandest Game takes place in November, meaning he only has a month to gather that much money. While Rohan is undoubtedly clever and resourceful, there's only so much money a person like him can gather without breaking the rules.

Knox has a stable job, Brady is a genius grad student with a bright future, Odette won't be around for much longer, Gigi and Savannah have their trust funds, and Grayson is a Hawthorne. Only Lyra and Rohan's futures aren't as assured, but compared to her, Rohan losing the Grandest Games will mean losing virtually everything.

Savannah and Rohan better get together so the man still has a future (as Savannah's trophy husband if not as the proprietor of the Devil's Mercy).

The cards we just got are actually scaring me bad and making me question everything. I don't think Alice Hawthorne is The Watcher anymore. I'm so confused because I used to think that she said "some situations merit more than watching" but if we look back into Pain at the right Gun it's actually the younger woman/girl who said it. The girl that helped Alice poison and injure Jameson. The Watcher is also holding a calla lily and I think it's Calla Thorp (the girl Knox and Brady were talking about). Brady said that if he wins The Grandest Game he'll get Calla back so maybe both stories are connected?? Knox also said that she isn't missing "she left" and then he pulled down his collar to show Gigi a "triangular scar" on his neck and hear me out now but who else has got a triangular scar on his neck/collarbone? Jameson (the one he got in Prague). It all adds up. What if Calla and Alice are working together? Maybe I'm insane but it makes so much sense to me.
