Stunning entry in the Shed of the Year contest. Designed and built byĀ Mike Lis of goodweather.caĀ inĀ Kaleden, British Columbia
Contributed by Liv Hilde:Ā
Our checkerboard cabin sits on top of my dadās land in Kaleden. Where possible we used local reclaimed materials (including the distinctive sidingācustomized panels hewn from my dadās old apple boxes left sitting idle since the 80s). The front wall is a custom window that slides open to the beautiful desert hills and lush vineyard views.Ā
We wanted something that made you feel immersed in the landscape. Since itās inception weāve had so many friends come through to stay in our cabin and we encourage the special people in our lives to come use it.

What a sight to stumble across on my dashboard. Though I have not seen the cabin I spent many a fine summer day gazing over those very hills as we visited my grandparents and great-grandparents in Kaleden. ā¤ļø

Since 2003 we have been living and building on the land, working in environmental projects and community. We have found it is possible to create simple shelters that are in harmony with the natural landscape, ecologically sound and are a pleasure to live in. There is something powerfully alluring in such natural buildings. Their simplicity and cost makes them accessible; their beauty and use of natural materials remind us of our ancestral right and ability to live well as part of the landscape/nature/earth. We believe this dream is possible for anyone with genuine intention, will and hard work.Ā

Because "some lifestyles are mutually exclusive..."
āIf you take it longer than 30 minutes, you end up in deep sleep. Have you ever taken a nap and felt worse when you woke up? Thatās whatās happening ā youāre sleeping too long and youāre going into a stage of sleep thatās very difficult to get out of.ā Ā [x]
Sleep inertia is a physiological state characterized by a decline in motor dexterity and a subjective feeling of grogginess immediately following an abrupt awakening. The impaired alertness may interfere with the ability to perform mental or physical tasks. Sleep inertia can also refer to the tendency of a person wanting to return to sleep.
Studies by the Human Factors Division at NASA Ames Research Center have shown that a variety of factors influence the severity and duration of sleep inertia.Ā One includes:
Depth of sleep when awakened. After roughly 30 minutes, the brain enters into slow-wave sleepĀ (deep sleep).Ā Being awakened during this stage yields more sleep inertia than awakening from other stages of sleep. However, since one cannot predict accurately the stages of sleep that will occur within a nap, there is no physiological reason to try to limit the length of a nap. When one is sleep deprived, any sleep is good.

Chuck Berry
Rock n Roll was originally Black music.
thank you
Yes, him and little Richard never get their due smh
exceptā¦chuck berry didnāt invent rock n rollā¦
Sister Rosetta Tharpe predates both chuck berry and little richard by quite a few years
Two of Tharpeās hit songs were released in like 1944-45 when Chuck Berry was a) incarcerated and b) still a high school student, Tharpe basically discovered Little Richard, and sheās referred to as the godmother of rock n roll
lol just
throwin that out there
^^^EXACTLY
but Sister Rosetta was a woman and queer⦠so Black men will totally overlook her.
rock music was created by a black bisexual woman
Sister Rosetta new idol

I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS WOMAN! MUSIC NERDS - EDUCATE ME NOW!
Iām almost positive this is the same woman who actually sang āYou Aināt Nothin But A Hound Dogā first before Elvis stole itā¦
And her version was BETTER
WAIT! WHAT? He didnāt sing that first? I need air and music. Someone tell me more.
Big Mama Thornton recorded Hound Dog in 1952.Ā She is the first.
See this just makes that song actually make sense to me for the first timeĀ so you know, hat-tip for that, too, you have relieved my endless puzzlement Iāve had since I was a small child.Ā
Wonderful documentary on her life & legacy in rock n roll
Today, March 20th is her birthday so can we just take the time to list some of her amazing accomplishments
- she was one of the very first great gospel artists who crossed over into r&b, rock n roll, and gained mainstream success
- she frequently performed with a racially integrated band
- guitar playing was seen as aĀ āmanāsā skill, but that didnāt stop her from beating out many guys in guitar battles at the Apollo
- she may have been one of the first successful black artists to even have a tour bus with her name on it
- this woman literally turned her wedding day into a rock concert for over 20,000 fans
- openly bisexual in her private life
- she sang with little richard in what would be his first public performance at her concert
- she held a successful tour in the UK during the early 1960ā²s well before theĀ ābritish invasionā of rock n roll
Write her a letter, send her a flower, love only gets old if you let it.
