i know we use helly and helena to be distinct about innie and outie (and obviously hellyna) but i think there is something rly bittersweet about helena going by helly. i’ve seen a lot of fic writers play with where the name helly came from (childhood?) the name hellyna will use post reintegration, using different variations of her name/nicknames or just picking one.

seeing the way helena speaks to helly in s1 shows how dissociative she had been about undergoing severance and meeting this side of herself, but this comes with a lot of aspects of her childhood. if we view helly as this sense of innocence in helena, it makes sense why she speaks to her the way she does (this is how helena was treated/spoken to as a child) and it is so much easier for her to disregard helly than to think about how this is the version of herself that isn’t tainted by the eagan sickness.

the name helena, to her and the audience, has represented that poised, lumon heiress side of her. in large, helly claiming the name helena will have a lot to do with accepting who she is in that position (we see that in the whole “helly e” scene) while helena is already starting to accept that innocent side of her (because she literally put herself in helly’s shoes).

it just goes more into how helly and helena’s reintegration will be so much easier than we might think because they are individually taking the steps to natural acceptance of each other. but i do think about how helena could want to reclaim the name helly, not because she wants to be helly, but because she wants to take back everything lumon has taken from her, including her innocence.
