the memeification of fascism is a proven method of perpetuating and instilling it in other people. Do you think part of Helen's dislike of Carol's books (including Bitter Chrysalis) stemmed from how sad they made her? Like, even on a subconscious level, Helen would have sensed Carol writing from a place of shame and angst. Like, I can see reading love scenes between Lucasia and Raban as being uncomfortable and maybe painful for Helen. Carol's new found freedom (generous usage of the term) to write about her desires openly allows her to create from a place of joy and relief, which many people argue is an inherently more appealing, easier to love type of art. Like it could very well/probably is a simple matter of taste but I can't overlook that the Wycaro books were ultimately a representation of Carol's shame.

I think she would have liked the new stuff.

I think she would have liked the final version of Bitter Chrysalis (or whatever Carol would have changed its name to by the time it was published) that would have come after Raban's transition.
