Take Your Time, Wait ’Till I Tire Out || Mikey and Amanda

“Here, home, everywhere,” She shrugged. Though she thought she was making it pretty obvious, Amanda couldn’t bring herself to admit what she’d been doing for money. Not to Mikey and certainly not like this. She didn’t need pity, or sympathy or anything of the like. “Surpriiise,” Amanda brokenly singsonged. “Sometimes all you have in life is a snakebite you’ve got to suck the venom out of,” She shrugged. “And that’s how I’ve done it.”
“But,” Amanda interjected quietly. “You were a kid. People expect that from kids. They don’t expect it from princesses, and a teenage one, too,” She argued. “I can’t really say it to make you understand what it was like. It’s just–” She cut herself off, not knowing how to configure it in a way that he might get it. “Do you remember when you came to the jungle with me the first time?” She began. “It was a lot like that. But every day. And with more people watching,” Amanda’s head fell back slightly, her eyes shut in frustration. “I didn’t want to leave. I just thought it would be better if I did. I’m not so sure that was my best decision. –Actually, I am sure it wasn’t,” When Mikey took the cigarette from her lips, she rolled her eyes and scoffed at him. “Right, because my smoking is really the straw breaking the camel’s back here,” She chuckled bitterly and shook her head at him. “Ha!” She exclaimed, almost immediately softening. “Me too. But here I am–”
Her words were cut off by Mikey’s lips. Soft and strong and oh-so familiar. Amanda almost felt afraid to move, like if she even began to reciprocate that he would pull away and they’d start fighting and her heart would break a little more. But her was moving closer and kissing her harder and Amanda’s head was positively swimming in a sea of mixed up, messed up emotions and she was too far gone to stop swimming now. So she weathered it, stepping in closer to Mikey and kissing him back in a way that said the things she’d been trying to all along. Once their lips parted, when normal breathing became just a bit too necessary, Amanda closed her eyes and gently leaned into Mikey. “You can’t do that if you’re just going to storm off again,” She said, unable to bring her eyes up to meet his and instead staring at the fabric covering his chest. “Because I don’t think I could stand it.”
Mikey was relieved that his lips had cut off Amanda. He had no idea what she was talking about anymore. Were there other guys? He didn’t understand. But once his lips were pressed against hers he was able to relax. Nothing else mattered; the whole world melted away. And then, the space between them exploded. His heart kept skipping beats and his hands couldn’t bring her close enough to him. He tasted her and realised he had been starving. He had kissed her before, but it didn’t burn him alive like this one. Their lips parted and Mikey let out a soft sigh, looking down at her as she stood before him.
Shaking his head, Mikey kissed the crown of her head. “I’m not storming off,” he promised. “I’m not going anywhere,” Mikey assured her. “I’m staying right here,” he said softly. His arms wrapped around her and pulled her closer. “I think you're the only person who gets me. When I'm with you, the world doesn't feel like a problem I can't figure out.” He whispered. Mikey’s hand ran over her back slowly, breathing out slowly. This probably wasn’t the best time to do this; she was drunk and he was in the middle of wedding preparations, but he just couldn’t leave her.
