Rachel: Dinner Thursday?!
TEXT | ST. BERRY
Rachel: I need your opinion on my audition for Funny Girl!
I didnât think Iâd be heading back to New York so soon but I have an audition on Friday and would appreciate wishes for many broken bones, thank you in advance!
tinydancerrjeffâ:
Thanks, so tell me, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to dance a lot and I spend a lot of time in the pool! What about you Jeff? Do you keep yourself busy?
brettanderson835â:
Brett rubbed his hands up and down Rachelâs arms. âYou want a hundred boxes, Iâll get you a hundred boxes, baby,â he replied. He wondered briefly how much that would cost. âThatâs two weeks of you singing for me every chance you get, right? Because that is like an amazing gift to me and a necessary study for you. Youâre gonna blow them away, I know it.
âI donât. I just needed to be clear what to expect.â She says with more confidence this time. Rachel likes how much he appreciates her voice, her singing to him, or just in his apartment since she felt like she barely left it most of the time. âI love you so much Brett and I know just the song Iâll sing for my audition.â
brettanderson835â:
âAs many as you want,â he said, smiling when Rachel finally laughed a little. God, he loved that laugh. And he couldnât wait for her to be doing exactly what she wanted to do, for her to be the star he knew she was. He kissed her sweetly, not letting it last for too long. âSo, when is your audition? I can help you get ready, and Iâll definitely take you to the airport too.â
âAre we talking one hundred boxes? One hundred singular packages? Or one hundred cakes?â Sheâs grinning so goofy at him, squeezing him even as he pulls away from the kiss. âTwo weeks. I have two weeks to prepare.â Itâs not a lot of time but sheâd been practicing for this her whole life and she still rehearsed daily- in order to keep her voice in tip top shape. âOf course. I wouldnât want anyone but you to take me.â
brettanderson835â:
Brett shook his head. âItâs just an audition. We will have time to figure things out between the audition and them telling you. I think you need to do this. And after the audition when you come back, we will go out someplace fancy and celebrate. And Iâll buy you a hundred zebra cakes.â He reached down and tilted her chin up to look at him. âYou want it right? Go get it. We will figure everything out when you get back.â
âYou would really buy me that many?â She wipes at her eyes as she giggles. Maybe she just let all the other feelings get in the way of the truth. âI do want it. Iâve always wanted it.â Rachel knows she can have him and Broadway. âI just want you so much to. I love you.â And she leans up to kiss him, needing the grounding he always gave her. She really couldnât believe her fathers need to own her success would keep them from the one thing she wanted most- twice.
mrmarcoestradaâ:
I didnât get as far as envisioning animals. But I imagined the countryside skyline.Â
Well, maybe next time!
brettanderson835â:
A wave of relief washed over him that she wasnât pregnant. That was literally the last thing that anyone needed. Instead of panic, he smiled. He knew how much she wanted to be on Broadway and to have a request to audition for Funny Girl of all showsâŠÂ âRachel thatâs awesome! Thatâs like so amazing! Itâs what youâve always wanted. I already know youâre gonna get it. They probably only called as a formality and want you in the show because youâre that awesome. Why are you upset about it? Itâs the chance of a lifetime.â
She hears him and it just makes her cry harder. Why could he say all of that and be happy and she couldnât. âBut Iâll have to be away from you. I donât want to be away from you Brett.â She loved New York. She loved being on stage and missed it so much- this would change her life but Brett already had.
brettanderson835â:
Brettâs arms automatically went around Rachelâs middle, but his heart started to race. It pinged in his mind that there were times when they didnât use protection. Sure, they used Plan B, but it wasnât 100% accurate. âWh-whatâs wrong?â he asked, afraid of the answer.
âI just got a phone call and was asked to audition for Funny Girlâ She whispers, and she should feel over the moon, but instead the idea of leaving him sounds terrible. Brett knew her favorite movie, what brought her to Florida. She didnât know that using her dad as her agent would kick her in the ass. âMy dad never sent my audition in and they want to give me a proper chance.â
Brett heard his door opening and sat up on the couch. He had been spending his afternoon watching Friends reruns, but hearing Rachelâs voice made him smile. âHey,â he greeted, getting up and heading over to her.
She is quick to wrap her arms around him, hiding her face in his chest. âI just got some really intense news Brett. Iâm kind of freaking out and I donât know what to do.â She manages to say, though its muffled because she canât look at him.
CALL BACKS - ANDERBERRY
Rachel let herself into Brettâs apartment, nervous as can be. Thereâs still signs of tears on her face but she knew talking to him would help her figure out what to do. âBrett?â
mrmarcoestradaâ:
You may laugh, but for a moment, it felt like I was in the countryside, but I know that was just my overactive imagination.
Thatâs too quiet for me. But I wonât laugh!
Were you envisioning farm animals?
mrmarcoestradaâ:
I know. Just for a moment, I was looking at the clouds and got so relaxed that it didnât feel like Orlando. And it was comforting.
Where did you feel like you were?
tinydancerrjeffâ:
Oh Iâm not like down down, just tired, I just moved in. Names Jeff.Â
Well, welcome to the building then!
