Microsoft's big reveal of the next Xbox is happening on Tuesday and I truly am interested to see what is coming in the new version. What would really get me excited (in addition to a much quieter fan) would be some new features that would let me cancel my cable TV services.

No such luck. Based on the article I just read, people are experiencing increased sensitivity to allergens and other environmental factors. Why could that be?

Other parents apparently have no problem giving this out to anyone who sets foot in their house, but I think that is crazy! In our house, this snippet of information is a tightly held secret, but I am currently under pressure to "let it go" and stop being such an "uptight security wonk". So now I'm shopping for Wi-Fi that can run a loosey-goosey guest account for everyone but me.

Well this happened to me yesterday. It was early in the morning and fairly dark and, well, I was punished for not taking the time to turn the light on. I really just wanted to capture that nasty moment when my foot went into the poop, which is more gross than funny, but I hope you get a laugh thinking about how I had to hop on one foot up a flight of stairs to take a shower after this.

So this is apparently a thing, these professional fundraising organizations. Companies who cold call you on behalf of charities and take a portion of the donation for their troubles. If you have to resort to outsourcing your donor outreach, I am guessing your charity is in some trouble. I am certainly not donating to your cause and funding telemarketers in the process!

This comic comes from the idea of taking care of and feeding my new nephew. He lives pretty far away so this might be as close as I am going to get. I am sure he is a handful, but I am a veteran parent, though my skills may be just a little rusty. I haven't caught anything with a spoon lately, never mind scraped anything off a baby's chin for at least a decade, so I might need a little warm up. Maybe I can start off with some bananas or something the kid will actually want to eat?

I have noticed a trend where the kids pick up a new game app for their phones or iPods and we all start playing one another. It is fun and word games are great for building vocabulary, but Kay and I get pretty competitive in our head-to-head matches. Our latest game is Ruzzle, and there are no excuses like "my tiles were bad" in this game as they are the same for each of us. Ruzzle has been the game of choice for a few weeks now and let's just say my ego is looking for a new game to play.

Poor Jane! It isn't that I don't want her to have a phone, it is that I don't want to pay for yet another data plan on a device that sits at home most of the time. Fortunately for me, she is happy for now having email, and to be honest she is already writing better than most spammers!

If you ever worried that Kay and I might be food snobs, you may have gotten the wrong idea about us. We certainly appreciate a fine wine and gourmet food, but let's just say we have a pretty wide range of what qualifies as gourmet.

As I overheard this yesterday, I found it interesting at how different the answers were for a mother and daughter pondering the same question. In Kay's defense, I don't think our favorites were pretentious enough to call themselves an artist back when we were kids. They were either "musicians" or "singers", and while artist is certainly an applicable term, I don't see it being particularly useful when you start lumping Taylor Swift in with Degas.

I read an article talking about a pet taxidermist for whom business was booming, and I couldn't help but think of what kinds of marketing promotions a pet taxidermist might provide, and then came this awful pun. I don't think I will use these kinds of services when our dogs pass on, though it would be fitting to have Ginger scooting her butt across the carpet in perpetuity. Yes, that's how she would want to be remembered.

I realize that the real-time nature of information on the internet has reduced the news cycle down to minutes, and every news outlet is trying to do more with less, but it seems like there isn't enough time or effort invested in some articles. From grammar errors to an inherent lack of actual substance, quality seems to be going down, with the latest (and increasingly frequent) peeve of mine being the news article based solely on what influential people are tweeting about a topic. That's news?

Playing Monopoly can be a lot of fun and without some very lucky die rolls or a majorly lop-sided deal, the games can last for a long, long time. In our house, the longer the game, the more likely that the first person to go out is going to have a near-thermonuclear meltdown. Fortunately for us it is usually one of the kids!

It has been a while since we did a "Kay's Retail Tales of Woe" comic, but that isn't because she doesn't come home with great stories from work. It is just that many of the stories are a sad commentary on humanity and how mean-spirited or outright crazy customers can be. This is one that I laughed at while decompressing with a glass of wine. Sorry this is published so late in the day!

I don't know about your house, but after we get through a bought with the flu, there are always reminders that hang around afterwards, from unused medicine to the thermometer not being put away. Well going forward, there will not be any extra Pedialyte filling up the fridge. Those shooters are delicious!
