Laura Stolberg,
No Ordinary Place
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Elliott Erwitt
Those who sell their wares on our city streets play a simple yet vital role, each stall or van can transform a small space into something unique. Walking through our city centre, it can be easy to not see what’s in front of us, the humanness of each business, the different kinds of produce, how they affect different people.
We can confirm for the Private Viewing on 15th March, we have Cameron Dodds (OddFellow) playing from 7pm. So make sure you're there for Drinks, Music and excellent NTU student photography work! See you there!
Taken from Melissa Pilfolds moving image piece,
“We do not notice the simple yet beautiful things that conjure this city up. The concept of looking is not always the same as actually seeing. Time, spaces and different individuals are what make the city what it is today and seeing even the simplest of things that we interact with or walk past everyday can be remarkable. We tend to ignore the expressed emotional state of the cities surroundings, its people and cultures; still we know they are still there in our unconscious mind.
My aim is to let you into the world of the overlooked city.”
Kalindi Sanghavi,
"This work explores the theme of person and place in Nottingham for those who have come from a foreign land as students in England and has an exploration into the relevance a space. These frames try to extract the 'feel' of location, the emotional attachment whether it be daunting and an unexplored."

Stills from Nico Lockhart's stop motion video,
Cities are filled with people from all different backgrounds, all living their day to day lives, all with so much to tell. With the population of cities being in the hundreds of thousands, and in many cases more, we blend in and almost become just an object within the city. Daily we pass person after person, not paying attention to them enough to even recognise them moments after. My work has captured this fraction of a memory we will keep of people, some we may notice, others we may not even realise were there.
We're now on Twitter! Follow us for updates on the exhibition.

Ryan Worthington,
“Repetition amongst streets makes our cities boring. The housing cliché fills our streets with a monotonous aesthetic. The mass production of the suburban house refines our economy. As a culture, individuality is often seen as essential, expressed through our homes to avoid this cliché. We yearn to be different.”
Lauren Smedley,
A house reveals how it has been shaped and lived in over the years; my images turn ‘the ordinary’ into a stage in which invites the audience to have an insight into another person’s life. The city is a vibrant and exciting cultural space with lots of different characters and ways of living, this series focuses particularly on a council housing estate on the outskirts of Nottingham; giving us an intimate insight into the people inhabiting this area and revealing the beauty of the everyday.
Andy Redfern,
Through our everyday exposure to the spaces around us we often become blinkered to them. In my work I seek to uncover these spaces and scenarios within the city; I look to find the beautiful within the banal. My work revolves around a theme of the strange and unusual which manifests itself within our everyday.
Jessica Richardson,
Nottingham was once known as 'The heart of England'. Jessica Richardson's work takes us back in time to expose the grandeur of our city's history and to showcase our proud heritage.
Danni Duric,
All cities are mad: but the madness is gallant. All cities are beautiful: but the beauty is grim. - Where The Blue Begins, Christopher Morley. 1922. Danni Duric's work depicts the grey, uncanny world that occupies Nottingham as a city at night. Transgression and negativity dominate in an environment usually unnoticed by the public. Her images display the illuminated and isolated beauty that can be found within Nottingham at night, the hidden areas of serene quiet often dismissed by urban society.
