Summary: John finally reads Arthur’s journal, only to find out that the man wanted to marry Abigail. John struggles with feelings of jealousy and inadequacy, even though Arthur is long since dead and gone. It might take some stern words from Abigail for him to see sense.

Excerpt John’s initial reaction was to shut Arthur’s journal with a sharp snap. He drew in a shaky breath and tried to calm the furious beating of his heart. His stomach was twisted into knots. It felt like someone had punched him low in his gut. John cautiously opened the journal once more until the faded words were facing him. The discomfort and pain were inescapable and he forced himself to read what Arthur had said about his wife: ‘Took young Jack out fishing as a favour to Abigail. Summary:

Blackwater Ferry AU.

The money wasn't the only thing left behind in Blackwater. Arthur and Hosea were as well.

Left to their own devices, they will have to find their way back to a gang doing its damnedest to disappear.

Leaving Charles. The train job. Van Horn. Those few agonising hours where he had though John had died right in front of him and his body thrown off the train. 

“Arthur, we have to move!” 

He wanted to wake up. It was just a dream. 

A bullet whizzed by his ear. 

“Arthur!”

Maybe not.

I was paired with the lovely and talented @let-love-run-red for this year's event! Her story Whiskey and Peaches, featuring Javier Escuella and her lovely OC Laura Garrison, explores a budding romance set on a newly inherited family ranch in a modern day AU. It was such a fun story to read and illustrate for, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

I tried to keep the colours soft and romantic to paint the general feeling the story gave me. So soft and sweet <3

There are many viable careers out there for a man like Arthur Morgan. 

He’s always been strong, entertaining a few jobs in construction and labor over the years. His compassion runs deep. It’s what prompted him to take that job at the local animal shelter a few years back, though the pay was absolute shit. He’s polite to a fault, having the manners trained into him by not one but two adoptive fathers. Old women adore him, and folks his age seem to like him even more. Once they work out that he only looks like an asshole when he’s thinking about something, that is. And he’s often thinking, lost in it, getting distracted by whatever’s churning away in his mind.

An hour into their dinner, Arthur is starting to think that this is a date. 

He'd met Charles outside the restaurant, with his hands in his pockets so the other man couldn't see them trembling. Charles is looking down at his phone when he walks up, but when he finally notices Arthur, his eyes go wide. He opens his mouth like he's trying to say something. Closes it. Opens it again. 

Neither of them say anything for a long second. Charles himself looks stunning in a form-fitting blazer and white shirt, his hair hanging loose around his shoulders. Like someone you see in a fashion magazine. Arthur still marvels at the knowledge that Charles likes him, opened up to him. All that mystery (well, most of it) melted away to reveal a truly passionate and caring man.

They had, of course, communicated about these things, but the conversation felt easy. Discussed over morning coffee-and-tea like it was as simple as the weather. Just like that, they’re Charles and Arthur in a way they’ve never been before, and no one at Big Sky can hide their delight. (Or their I-knew-its and I-told-you-so’s.)
